I love food…! I have been to 90% of the top rated restaurants in Ct and many of the best in Rhode Island and Boston. I am a pretty decent cook myself and appreciate quality of food and presentation. Anyone who says the food at Zinc is anything less than festive, delicious and mouth watering has no clue about good food. The prices were typical for dinner in new haven, however they have incredible specials every day that make you ask, how can they do THAT for that price……presentation was top of the line..food quality unbeatable……….also a great small bar with good small batch and spirit offerings. Atmosphere was pleasant, cozy with a hint of soft “gallery and artsy”………….service was low key and on the spot. What’s also very nice is pizza at The Kitchen in the back of Zinc, great for low key beer, wine and pizza…………..I rate the pizza number two in the country after only Pepe’s…………..but the styles and quality are so similar they are close to a tie…………the atmosphere at the Kitchen blows away Pepe’s with exposed brick and high lofty ceilings…….on second thought ….Zinc is the best pizza over all………….. High recommendations check out both Zinc and The Kitchen…………….

Did the market menu. First came a creamy celeriac soup which tasted like thick potato soup. Warming but not flavourful.. Second course, beef & pork bolognese/ricotta cheese w. sage, carrots, parsley + tomato ragout. Ive never had a BOLOGNESE SERVED MINUS BOLOGNESE before. Rather frivilous those two dots of meat the size of 2 hamburger crumbs. Did not send it back, too discouraged.. Pasta al dente in pleasant tomato sauce. The best of this dish was a scoop of Luizzis ricotta, creamy & rich. For dessert, a spiced sweet bread, roasted granny smith apples w. pumpkin gelato. The gelato was HIGHLIGHT of the meal. Absolutely spot on refreshing without being cloyingly sweet. I was not impressed with the dried spiced bread at all. All in all, with two small drinks, the meal was very pricey. I would recommend ZINC but prefer a la carte as the regular menu is terrificly varied and filled with delectable appetizers, cheeses and entrees which when presented look and taste like the description of what you have ordered. Service was impeccable with a friendly casual country club denim and diamonds feeling.

We arrived at the time of our reservation and we were promptly seated. Our waitress "Joe" made the entire dinning pleasure a wonderful experience. Speciality drinks arrived along with the assorted five cheese plate appetizer which exceeded our expectations. Each cheese had flavor all of its own. My wife was celebrating Mothers day and the graduation of her son becoming a doctor. Our family of six were treated to entrees of fish, duck, scollops, and lamb. These meals were prepared with garnishments which enhanced the flavor to levels of pure delight. Each desert was spectacular. My favorite was the cheese cake, beet ice-cream and a basil whip. This is my first ever review..Why...because this was such a wonderful meal I was compelled to tell all. WELL DONE "ZINK" & thanks Joe Paul Chella and Family....Sharon, MA

Very disappointing! I had heard very good things about this restaurant so perhaps they just had an off-night, but the food was pretty terrible. We had the duck nachos to start and the tuna and steak for entrees. The nachos had very little duck on them, were sickly sweet, and greasy. The trend of greasy and sweet continued with the entrees. The tuna itself was too sweet but otherwise fine, but the greens that accompanied it were fried and dripping in oil and extremely salty. The steak was tough, too salty and also somehow sweet(?). Just really bad food all around. The best item by far was the free bits of bread to start. At this price point I expect way more, but even if this had been a $20 meal at some hole-in-the-wall I would have left very unhappy. Service was fine.

Meh. Disappointed. While the service was solicitous, the food did not amaze me. The celebrated duck nachos -- unfortunately most of the duck cubes fell off the chips, and while they tasted good the delivery just didnt wow me. Same with the pork dumplings - Nothing special. Good dumplings, but no "wow, what a dumpling experience." My main course of the barramundi : a piece of undistinguished fried fish filet, with some uninteresting sauce in a small metal cup on the side - the cup looking like something Id expect to see at a diner. The veggies - just "meh". The bread - unmemorable. The second serving of bread - just, ok. If this was a less hyped place (and less expensive) I wouldnt have come in with heightened expectations. Resting on its laurels.

The duck spring roll appetizer had an odd combination of flavors and was not particularly pleasing to eat. My meal, however, was fantastic. Hangar steak that melted in my mouth, crispy sweet potato fries with a caper aioli and perfectly cooked broccoli rabe. All of the flavors complimented each other. The waiter was uninspired and looked bored, and the place was quite empty for a Friday evening. Overall, I feel like the meals are hit or miss, and since they are a bit pricey, its up to you if you want to take the chance.

Wonderful supper at Zinc last night. Service was fantastic. The restaurant was not full... Maybe half. The cocktail menu is very creative, although they were out of St Germaine. (I wanted the cucumber cocktail) We ordered the beet salad and the Bibb salad with sirachi ranch. Both were just delicious. The special Thai style pulled pork was something else. It tasted amazing, but wasnt much to look at. The cod did not disappoint either! I enjoyed it. The restaurant is pleasant. I look forward to going back again.

Zinc continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in Connecticut. We were there again last night for a birthday celebration and the first thing that happened was our server, Melanie, brought two glasses of sparkling wine to mark the occasion. By the way, Melanie was super nice and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Our appetizers and main courses were delicious. Beautifully presented and creative too. It was a wonderful dining experience and we look forward to coming back soon!

I havent been to Zinc in about 3 years but the first few times I went there the food was amazing! great quality and bursting with amazing flavors. I loved it so much I took everyone there. And then I noticed a change: meals overcooked, flavors were bland or just regular. I would stop by every now and again to see if things had improved....and they hadnt. Hope its turned around but Im nervous to go back and take the chance.

Had dinner for 12 the other night. Wine list falls short, service was S-L-L-O-O-O-O-W-W-W-W-W-W, but food was better than expected. I am assuming the night I ate there (Weds.) was an off night, or perhaps a server called in sick, either way food was good enough to go back. We sampled several items and my favorite was the burger. Go figure

$60 per person pre fixed menu, waitress never asked how our food was, she disappeared and there is barely anyone in the restaurant. All the steak was undercooked and disappointing desserts. Wish I could give a lower score. Too bad because Ive been here before and it was not bad. Duck tacos were good and I was told the shrimp was good.

I was really disappointed with Zink. We (my husband and me) went for lunch. It is pricy for what you get small and not good food. In New Haven we have another choices of fancy restaurants (Barcelona, Ibiza, Union League, Bespoke etc) that are in the same range of price but have great food. I do not recomend this place!
