Weird it was when we sat, we were told we could not be bringing a bottle of SmartWater into the restaurant. We were further told that this was a Connecticut Department of Health regulation, but I could not locate any such regulation online. I was careful to inquire as to whether this was a department of Connecticut regulation, or was this simply a policy for the restaurant, and it was confirmed that this was a health code violation. In addition we were unable to order a hamburger from the lunch menu at 10:30 in the morning. We never actually ate at the Mystic Diner, but because of the incredible feeling of not feeling welcome we departed. We drove to another diner a short distance away and the restaurant told us that it was not a problem to have a bottle of SmartWater in the restaurant, and further that he was unaware of any Department of Health regulation in the state of Connecticut barring outside bottles of spring water. I cant explain the behavior of the waitress at the Mystic Diner, nor can I explain her contention that we were not allowed to have a bottle of spring water with us. I can not however recommend a restaurant that doesnt go out of its way to make its customers feel welcome.

After waiting about 20 minutes, our server came over. Our drinks came another 20 minutes..after 40 minutes of being sat our order was taken..30 minutes after that our food came out and it was horrible..everything was horrible. Our food was gross and our server was no where in sight..after having our food infront of us for 30 more minutes, our server came over and gave us boxes, if you look in the garbage outside your establishment, its in there, never asked how everything was. She dropped the check and off she left. When we went up and paid the cashier asked how everything was..and our response was "horrible". He still took our money and another girl laughed. I wonder why she laughed..did she think it was funny that people were very unhappy at her work place? Does she give a crap about her job? Working in the industry for the past 16 years, i have never ever complained before about any restaurant, but due to the service and food...i had to. We do come up to Mystic for day trips and we will never ever dine there again..if you are reading this bc you wanted to go here..dont...

Seriously?! This place is big, with an outside patio area, it was NOT BUSY, & our device was terrible. We were seated, then waited for a waitress. Then we ordered drinks & milkshakes. After a few minutes we were told, they were "out of" one of the milkshakes. Then after receiving the milkshakes, we didnt get any long spoons to actually get all the mix-ins in the milkshake! Our dinner came timely, but the food was just dropped; and they didnt ask if we needed anything. We didnt see ANY waitstaff for ten minutes; we were waiting for the sauce that came in the sandwich; ketchup, more drinks, silverware & napkins...!!! She was annoyed we asked for all of this, but had she been on top of it; we would have been happy. Then she checked back when she dropped the check, in a very patronizing, conceding way. We voiced our opinion when we paid at the register, with no comment back from the girl at the counter. We also left a not so nice tip.

We stayed at the Howard Johnsons and decided to get breakfast at the diner. When we walked in, there were 4 hostess standing at the counter. They all just stood there and looked at us. Big mistake. I could make better food at home for 1/2 the price. French toast was soggy and on regular bread, blueberry pancakes were just plain pancakes with a few berries on top. Orange juice was $3.29 a glass. Prices were outrageous. My son had chocolate chip pancakes. Hes autistic so as I was watching him, I noticed hair in his food. Server asked if I would like them remade. Really. What was I going to do, get up and leave or not feed my son? Bill for 3 for breakfast was over $51.00. When I went to pay, I asked for a discount because of the hair. The boss lady said. "He refired them for you didnt he?" As if that was to make a difference. I kept on and she finally credited me for them. Horrible service, food, prices and attitudes. Will never go there again!

I was directed to the bar area since I was a single diner. The hostess was not pleasant at all! Being a person of color, I felt the hostility as I was seated. The other waitresses at the bar would not make eye contact at me or smile like they did with the white patrons. They went to the back to fetch the only black waiter there to serve me, as if they would not serve a black customer. It doesnt take 3 waitresses to serve a bar area. Took several minutes for him to come and take my order. After I received my order, he never returned until my meal was finished. I felt rushed and unappreciated. The food was only mediocre. NO SIDE SALAD! Only a big ass salad for 8 dollars. Do yourself a favor if youre in Mystic and youre a person of color. Stay in your car and go to your nearest drive-thru restaurant for sustenance. They are not use to having us around!

Bloddy Mary was good. Otherwise a very poor showing. Sitting here right now watching 3 workers in deep conversation but my coffee hasnt been refilled once. Mexican omlette was egg and cheese with salsa and sour cream cups on the side rather than inside. My wife asked for scramble with veggies mixed in and was tokd they couldnt do that. But she did get a veggie omlet. Go figure. They spilled coffee on the tabke, then spilled my drink. When we asked for napkins to clean the spills she brought the napkins and dropped them on the table for us to clean HER spills. Service terrible and the place is about 60% full. No personallity. Good thing they are in this location otherwise they would go down.

The diner is centrally located near several major attractions in Mystic. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its standard diner food, featuring breakfast all day and a diverse menu. The food is good and Ive never had to send anything back. The portions are huge. It is a diner so some things are a bit greasy, but Ive never had an issue. In the front there is a counter with various desserts. They change them out daily so you have to ask to see what they have. The diner is large. There are 2 areas for large groups, although its not a private room. The waitstaff is always friendly and helpful. We go about once a month because this is one of our favorite places to eat.

Just bad service, mediocre food and a dirty restaurant, DO NOT have dinner here. I went here with my family of four, the hamburger buns tasted like theyd been microwaved, both medium and medium-rare mean well done, the food didnt taste good. The servers were rude, didnt give any eye contact and looked very bored, when paying the man at the counter looked like he wanted me out as fast as possible... The tables didnt look clean at all... Also, the floor was littered with sugar packets and other dropped things. I rate this 1/5,if you do decide to go, dont expect much...
