We love to spend celebrate special occasions with a great meal, in the past Chef Jens restaurants have done a wonderful job of helping us celebrate. This was our 14th wedding anniversary and S&G kind of missed the mark. The staff was great, very kind and excited to help us celebrate. However the food was a little underwhelming. We started with the Ceviche Granita Parfait. It sounded great but lacked notable qualities. It just came across as bland. We also ordered the Fritto Misto, this one knocked it out of the park. We also had a few oysters which were delicious when accompanied by the creative granitas. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Seared Hawaiian Gamefish and me the Whole Striped Bass. The Gamefish was bacon wrapped but the fish was dry as it could be, she could not enjoy this. (Edit: She ordered the Seared Hawaiian Gamefish however when I uploaded the photos I realized she received the Prosciutto Melon Halibut, either way it wasnt great) When I ordered the whole bass I asked the waitress how user friendly this was because I wanted to spend time with my wife not working away on a meal. She said its pretty user friendly so thats what I went with. Turns out this was quite a bit of work for not very much reward. The fish was not very tasty and it was full of bones that I could not navigate around. I cant fault them for my inexperience in tackling a whole fish but I did ask first. To finish we ordered the Banana Bread Pudding Ice Cream Sandwich which was amazing. We also had the special which was a coconut cream pie which did not meet the mark. So all in all about 50% of our meal was amazing, the other 50% was not. In the future I think Ill stick to some of the other Chef Jen restaurants. One other tip, dont set anything down you dont want to disappear. The staff will remove anything from your table that you are not actively eating or drinking. This was rather frustrating after we had ordered a few oysters and several granitas. The minute the last oyster was gone the entire plate was whisked away. We had planned to order more since we had all these great granitas but before we saw our waitress it was all over.

Service was terrible and portions were tiny. Our party of 4 arrived at 3:45. It was confusing where/ how to get a table, just kind of stood in the entrance. The hostess was avoiding us and I had to explicitly ask for a table. We were seated at a high top, which is crowed for four. Fine, it was nice out. Handed both lunch and dinner menus. Cool, 15min before the end of lunch at 4pm. Waiter avoided us for 10 minutes then snarkily informed us that we could only order off the lunch menu "maybe if we really wanted something that wasnt on the dinner menu"... Okay... so yes or no? Are the portions larger since the pricer were? Ordered a few oysters, yes they were expensive, but they were good. We all ordered off the dinner menu; two orders of monk fish, paella, and Thai mussels. It took an hour for our dinner to arrive. AN HOUR. They were busy, 90% tables full, but not slammed and had plenty of staff walking about. No explanation or checking in from our waiter. Monk fish and accompanying endive was tasty, the mandarin slaw was way way too bitter, inedible. My friend told me monk fish is really inexpensive and our portions were super small, smaller than a lunch portion for dinner prices. Our waiter, and others around, were avoiding us. Maybe we didnt look rich enough since our waiter was flirting with other tables. I finally caught another (really nice) waiter who checked us out immediately. We were there for 1.5hrs. Advice: 1. Better hostess 2. Be clear on lunch vs. dinner menu 3. Get rid of the crappy waiters. Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you just have a few bad ones. 4. Make the portions bigger and/or add some filler. Rice is cheap. Were not looking for midwest portions here just want to be fed.

Dreadful, Would never go back. Just the weirdest menu. We spent 20 minutes just trying to find one thing that we could relate to and possibly enjoy. So we decided on Lobster Rolls. When the waiter came and I ordered a diet coke, I was told they dont have any soft drinks. I could have a Mexican Coke or some of their homemade soft drinks like Basil Soda or Grapefruit Soda. Yum!!!! Oh and they were not serving Lobster Rolls anymore. We ordered the Chicken Spatchcock - very small and flavors so "subtle" we couldnt taste em. The tarragon Lemon Pan Jus about as exciting as watching $26 die of boredom. The fried whole haddock - how much talent does it take to put a whole fish in a deep fryer then put it on a plate. Not a very interesting dish. We ordered pies in a jar. The strawberry came with masticated (they really said that) Martian (or some such exotic locale) strawberries and a dab (and I should say Micro Dab) of cream and Micro Basil (really I didnt know basil came in denominations). This was just really, really underwhelming. The bright spot was the "Micro" Lemon Meringue pie in a jar which was excellent. The bright spot were all the new food terms we learned like: masticated strawberries, fried egg emulsion, micro basil and fractal broccoli, This is the perfect restaurant for "foodies" but if you are just a middle aged person who likes recognizable menu items, flavors and diet coke, just dont go to Stoic and Genuine. Oh and to go to the rest room... plan an extra two minutes to cross the train station to the hotel. I guess thats why the portions are so small and their is no diet coke. (By the way the manager was kind enough to go to another restaurant to get me one and bring it back.)

Hopped on the Westminster Rail Line for a Friday night date with the husband. We hadnt taken the train downtown yet so perfect opportunity for a date night. Stoic and Genuine had been on my list for quite a while but its hard to get mixed company to buy in so heavily to seafood (maybe just my mixed company). So ideal restaurant for just me and the hubs. Menu looked fantastic online and sounded delicious. Pictures made it seem pretty slick and super modern and trendy. Our waitress kind of had an attitude, a little mightier-than-though because we were pretty interested in ordering a number of small dishes and appetizers to share rather than do a full on entree. We ordered plenty of food, though Id say the portions were just a bit smaller than what I expected for the price. Chill, girl we spent $150 bucks anyway even how we roll... so yeah, chill. It was decent food. Tasted pretty fresh. We tried the Ceviche with a Dasteeg Brewing rotating beer and I had a glass rosé obvi. Then we ordered a dozen oysters with the accoutrements and they were good. We did a mini East Coast versus West Coast taste test and Id say we were both into East Coast oysters the most overall. The cornbread was supppppper greasy but delicious none-the-less. Then we topped it off with a Lobster Roll and Sashimi. Lobster Roll was meh- not even close to the best one in Denver and about a jabillion times worse than the best Ive ever had. Lobster was fine, bread was good, but the seasoning/flavor was off. Wouldve done better with butter only or something. Sashimi was delicious!!!!! Id come back, but I dunno... Ill check out Happy Hour or something... maybe try to snag a different menu.
