This restaurant has the worse customer service I have ever seen and I dont care how good their food may be. And since it was our first time at Baku and we didnt have the change of trying their food so I cant comment on that. What I know is tha these people have no respect for their customers. My husband made dinner reservations for my birthday the night after Christmas. I was very excited (after spending days thinking about which restaurant I wanted to go) but when we got there they didnt have any tables for us even though we called hours before to confirm the reservation. To make matters worst they were not apologetic at all (even though they almost ruined by birthday celebration) and they told us we would have to wait 45 minutes for a table. The hostess behavior was pitiful and someone like that should never be working dealing with customers. The manager arrived when we decided to leave and act like he didnt care either. So absurd we left (hungry, disappointed and without an apology) and went to another restaurant (upscale restaurant way better than Baku) that were very nice and able to acomodate us last minute thankfully. These people in Baku acted like they didnt need us even though it was a birthday celebration and we were ready to spend hundreds of dollars there. They are such rude idiots! I wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone that want to celebrate a special night there because they couldnt care less about you as a customer! I would go any elsewhere if you dont want the possibility of spending hours excited getting ready for a special night to arrive at the restaurant and have to leave hungry and not knowing what to do or where to go! Run the other way please!

We went during Queens Feast restaurant week, 3 courses for $30. Food quality was very good....salad, calamari, NY strip, tempura shrimp & vegetables, creme brûlée, tart. The problem was service. My wife was almost finished with her salad before my calamari arrived; conversely, I was almost finished with my steak before her tempura arrived. The server said the dishes are meant to be shared, so they bring them when theyre ready. Lame...when diners order their own dishes, they should be served together! He should have informed us at the outset thats how they do it, since no other restaurant I know of does it that way. We clearly would have told him to bring the dishes of each course together. He did say hes had other diners complain about the same thing. The server who brought dessert just brusquely said "Creme brûlée?", put it down as fast as he could, and scampered off. Also, the music was just a continuous driving beat for the 90 minutes we were there, monotonous and became irritating. Despite the food being good, were not inclined to return or to recommend it. The word that sums up the entire experience is "annoying."

I can’t help but cringe when I read reviews like the one provided by “Ric A.” This is the kind of guy who thinks he’s not annoying, just everyone else. He’s probably like, “Why do people always eavesdrop when I’m trying to have a private conversation at the movie theater?” Do yourself a solid and make reservations at Baku. Over the last two visits, my wife and I have shared the following (all of which I would recommend): pork dumplings, Alaskan king crab, tenderloin with asparagus skewers, calamari, scallops with foie gras, pork belly skewers, salmon belly nigiri, California roll, Madagascar prawn, and the Kobe A5 tenderloin. I can’t wait to go back to try one of their Robata grilled steaks. And yes, you read that correctly… we SHARED those plates. Cause, that’s what you do at a place like this. This place is legit in the top 3 restaurants in Charlotte. Don’t listen to Ric Assphart, (last name assumed), take it from me; Baku is bangin’, yo.

The night we chose was in the middle of Queen Citys Feast/Charlotte Restaurant Week. Despite the crowd, it was an amazing dinner. Im extremely picky about sushi and have been to some of the best sushi restaurants in NYC and a few other cities. This ranks in my Top 3 best sushi places ever! The Salmon Belly Nigiri was outstanding and melts in your mouth. It was our first dish and the perfect start and we actually ended with the same dish - it was that good, we had to have it twice. Most items are served as small plates and shareable, which is perfect for a date night with someone you love. We staggered our orders, which ensured that we didnt get too full and gave ourselves time between dishes. I think we had 5 "courses" total. We already planned out the items we need to order on our next visit, because there were so many items we wanted to try, but we just couldnt order everything. New favorite!

LOVED THIS PLACE! Went on NYE without a reservation and thankfully we went early and were seated right away. Our server Anthony was super attentive, professional and made some great recommendations! He quickly explained that everything is meant to be shared, portions are small and food comes out "as its ready" as they are not a "traditional restaurant". This place is NOT CHEAP but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. We ordered calamari which were divine, 2 rolls and the sake glazed chicken wings. I ordered a malbec wine that was very tasty and I cant wait to come back! My best advice is to come here with money and time. Its definitely an experience and IMHO not a place to dine and dash.

Service is absolutely amazing. The waiter we had knew everything and more about the menu. Extremely knowledgeable! The atmosphere is extremely calming with relaxing music to accompany. The food is absolutely amazing. The wagyu beef is absolutely to die for. Melts in your mouth. The brussel sprouts are a must order! Even if youre not a fan of brussel sprouts, you will LOVE them. The sweet potatoes reminded me of flavors that I had when I went to Japan. Also, the Toro is a must! Some of the best sushi Ive ever had. The wasabi is also extremely good- a little on the sweet side, which compliments everything perfectly. Granted, if youre looking for spending little to no money, dont come here.

This place is a very trendy upscale Japanese restaurant. I did not realize that at first and showed up in flip flops and jeans. I definitely felt out of place. It is very pricey but I really enjoyed the tuna maki roll, eggplant pot stickers and hot tea that I ordered. The reason I am giving this 3 stars is because of he prices and atmosphere. The sushi was great but not anything special, for the prices they are charging, it better be the best sushi ever. The atmosphere was a little too pretentious for me, they had club music playing and it really seemed like a place that people went to just to look cool. Overall, good food but the atmosphere was not at all what I wanted.

Great place, one of my ATF places, and getting a 5 star for an error that could have ruined the night but management and bar staff made it amazing. No wait, sat in bar area, party of 4, 3 of us received our entrees and finished before 1 person received his medium rare + NY Strip. Food was amazing, but the kitchen was off their game, but management made it right, all was good. Music, ambiance, and presentation definitely top notch. Big thanks to Brian at the bar. He understood our frustration, redirected everyone to fun, laughter and cool unique cocktails. Definitely remember the great time more than the frustration.
