I was in denver a few weeks ago and since I am fond of Indian food and culture, I asked my brother if there were an good places closeby. We had to look up restaurants on google and found this place. We drove all the way from downtown denver to this restaurant in aurora. The location seemed decent and from outside it did not look any thing out of the ordinary. It seemed like any other Indian restaurant. We walked in to smiling and greeting faces (somehow missed that whiff of smell of Indian food you typically get when you walk in to an indian restaurant-It more smelled of incense mixed with pinesol!!! I am serious. ) I was nevertheless, expecting to have some great food! I ordered an aloo sag with some nan and since my brother was a first timer, I suggested him to get tandoori chicken. The place seemed pretty unorganized and the owner seemed to shout at his workers, not caring whether he was being heard by people in the restaurant. After a long wait of about 25 minutes, our food arrived. Honestly, this was the worst aloo saag I ever tasted. It was watery and the potatoes somehow felt like they were really old. It was really horrible. It did not have the flavor whatsoever. I dont know if I want to ever have aloo sag anywhere again because it left that bad impression in my mind. The nan was ok but the saag had already upset my mood. My brother wasnt too happy with his tandoori chicken either. He said the meat was hard and his rice was partially cooked(I know basmati rice is supposed to have that crunchy texture but our rice was almost RAW!) I requested to speak to the manager and boy was I surprised! This so called manager/owner did not show any signs of ownership. He was in complete denial. He told me "That is how aloo saag should taste like" and when I asked him about the raw rice all he had to do is shrug his shoulders making us look like idiots. When I told him the tandoori was a bit too hard in texture, he gave me an arrogant smirk. I was by now furious. Through this review I want to express my utter dissatisfaction with the restaurant, the management, food and the attitude. I am never going back for sure and wont recommend this place to any one I know (or dont know!).

The servers are all very personable, paid close attention to me most of the time, and seemed to get along very well. I visited the buffet twice, last Thursday and again last Saturday. I was delivered a basked of fresh naan before I even sat down. I found all the expected items in the buffet, plus several I cant seem to find all in one place, if at all: mixed vegetable masala, pakora (vegetable fritter) curry, and broccoli/potatoes. The saag paneer tasted very good but it looked a little dull and dry on both days--curious but only affected its looks. The saag paneer was excellent, with delicious cheese. At most Indian buffets in Denver, Ive learned to normally avoid the lentil dish, but here it shines. Im so thrilled to have moved to an area where I can get pakora curry (all-time favorite) at the buffet and good chicken tikka masala. Therefore, I could only think of a mere two additions to the buffet that would help justify the $9.95 price: warm gulab jamun and warm carrot pudding, like the kind at India House downtown. These are both desserts. Please do not be put off by the inexplicable bad review here. You will fall in love with this place. In other words, theres no reason to wait until the 2nd visit to bring your friends, dates, and loved ones. I cant wait to go back and show it off.

My wife and I were visiting our daughter and her family over the weekend, and this restaurant was near our hotel. I saw it had good reviews ... and we all love Indian food. The kids had never eaten there, its a bit out of their area, but Im sure theyll be back, and so will my wife and I on our next visit. Foremost ... besides the delicious food ... was incredible service. And ... besides being good at taking care of us ... they were ALL so nice. The owner and his wife stopped by at different points to apologize for the remodel in progress ... great people ... and that usually means that the staff will be as devoted as they are. We ate buffet style (they had a Saturday night buffet ... YES!!) and every dish was perfect. We look forward to ordering from the menu on our next visit. I gave this 5 stars because I cant think of anything wrong about this experience.

You cant beat the customer service at this place. Gar, the owner, takes it upon himself to greet each and every one of his customers every time I see him there. Ive been to many Indian restaurants and most of them are hard to get service at let alone good service. Im not sure if its a racial thing or cultural thing or what, but it that scenario doesnt happen here. ALL the staff are friendly and accommodating. With the food being fantastic you cant go wrong with this place. Ive tried the Chicken Marsala, (Favorite) Lamb and Chicken Vindaloo, and Chicken tandoori (OMG!), Meatball curry (KIDS LOVED THAT ONE), Everything Ive ever had from this place is wonderful. Throw in that I just found out that the deliver to me, Im never going anywhere else for my Indian food again.

I am totally addicted to Indian Food and have to say, The Star of India is my favorite spot to indulge. I have tried many dishes there over the years, and none have been disappointing. My favorites are the Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Fish Tandoori! Yes, the Fish Tandoori is nothing like I have ever had anywhere else. And if you like eggplant, the eggplant dish that is cooked with delightful spices plus tomatoes and other vegetables is another of my favorites. Oh, and the shrimp dishes dont have those teeny tiny shrimp, the shrimp have always been HUGE. The cooks will cook your dish to you liking, making it mild, medium, or hot. Once my family and I tasted Indian food, we never looked back. And the Star meets our high standards in every category!

Soo good!! Weve tried about a dozen other Indian restaurants in Denver, Boulder and surrounding areas and all have either been good food/terrible value or terrible food/fair prices. This is so far the best Indian food for reasonable prices. A lot of indian restaurants in Colorado will serve about 1 1/2cups worth of curry accompanied by 4cups of rice for $16. Ridiculous!! This place gives great value, great food, great service and the Vegetarian Buffet is amazing! The service was also nice, a cheerful waitress waited us and made sure our drinks were full and everything got to us on time. The mango lassi mixed drink was very good as well, I had never had an alcoholic lassi before, but it was better than I thought it would be. Highly recommended!!

We have been coming here for quite sometime, and the service has always been great. It can be a little slow at times depending on the volume, but the wait is well worth the quality of the food. Out of approximately a dozen times that we have been there, the service was slow twice. Both times this happened, the owner of the place served us free chai and naan. The food has been really tasty every time we have gone. The chai is great, however, I havent tried any of their mixed alcoholic drinks so I cant comment on that. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a small hole in the wall Indian restaurant.
