Went there last night and was surprised. Had rabbit risotto which was outstanding. Bottle of Grayson cellars 2010 merlot was excellent. Tomato onion soup which I say was ok to good. Reason being it reminded me more of my wifes pasta sauce than soup as it was quite thick. I had the lamb shank which was good but dry. My wife had the steak diane which was very good. The biggest thing I thought lacking was the service. Even though two people came to our table only one person really seemed to do anything. Water glass was empty a long time and dirty dishes remained on the table. We were not greeted with a hello or anything and general ordering seemed very awkward. overall value was spotty since I thought the lamb shank was overpriced for the quality. I should of ordered the osso bucco instead.

after quite a few years of good experiences at d & j, on our last visit we were served badly spoiled fish. fortunately, we did not eat it, so no illness occurred, but we left immediately. since dominic the owner was not present in the restaurant, i left him a note. i got a note back from dominic 8 weeks later saying the fish we got was not as spoiled as we said it was and that i was exaggerating. i guess partially spoiled fish is fine with d&j!

D&J Bistro is an exceptional French restaurant with notable food and service. Weve been going to D&Js for more than 5 years and have always had a wonderful experience. Service is never rushed, courses are served in appropriate portions and the food is delicious. The wine list offers a wide range of choices to enhance the meal and wines are reasonably priced. We strongly recommend D&J Bistro - you will not be disappointed.

We were seated at a back table by the window where I had to read the menu using the lights from the parking lot. We had a cocktail and had to ask the busboy to get our waiter, who was busily attending to a 6-top one table away, to order a bottle of wine. I usually just chalk this up as a bad experience, but in this case felt compelled to add a review. Guess were in the minority, but we wont be going back.

I really like D & J. Its a great little unassuming, family owned restaurant with pretty authentic French cuisine. The menu is pretty extensive and pretty French, but very approachable. Great cocktails and a good wine list. The service can be a little slow.. but in a European experience kind of way, if that makes sense Its not cheap, but good for an occasional night out.

Dont let the outside fool you. Once youre inside, you get transported into a cozy French atmosphere. Food was excellent from beginning to end. The braised rabbit leg was falling off the bone good. And the blackberry sorbet was a prefect way to end the meal. This a great place to stop by when your in the Lake Zurich area.

I GIVE FIVE, the staf and the manager are professional, patient, kind and very helpful. one of the waitresses speak French very well and is very helpful. excellent service and quality. It is a very good place to go.

Food always fabulous, beet & aragula salad what a treat, coq au vin August special superb, and to finish Peche Melba, accompany the meal with a Chateauneuf 2014 (young, but powerful). Awesome dinner! Mike, our waiter was very efficient and attentive. Worth yet another visit

Dont let the outer appearance faze you: this is an excellent restaurant! Not necessarily for Francophiles alone--their food is prepared with skill and accessible to anyone with a bit of savoir faire. Delicious for lunch or dinner.
