My husband and I recently visited The Rusty Monk on a Saturday night date and we had a blast! We were on a budget and although the items were a little on the higher end price wise, there was plenty of food for us to share and be full! The clam chowder was to DIE for! The clams are extremely fresh and melt in your mouth which is opposite of what most places serve you- hard, chewy pieces of rubber like meat that grit with sand as you bite down! They add hatchs NM green chile, and although it does have a bit of a kick I LOVED it this way!!! After tasting the soup with the green chile, I strongly feel it should always be this way. We also ordered the pretzel bread with beer cheese and mustard dipping sauces this too was so delicious, we actually had to order a second one! We also had a salmon dinner that was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right, with a side of brocolinni and mashed potatoes. To drink I had the Red Seal Ale and my husband ordered the Belgian Ale. He was a little disappointed with the size of it, costing $11, he thought it would have been a bigger Glas that he has seen in some of the pictures. Over all this place was a 5 star dining experience. The decor was depicted well of a 19th century European gastro pub! The servers are great and very accomodating! One little side note, the water it in a small glass an was deceptive in appearance. I thought it to be just ordinary tap water with the strong taste of chlorine and other chemicals, however I should have known better. My husband was guzzling it down (he drinks everything in this fashion), and then at the end of dinner told me the water was so good and had a cucumber flavor! The water is cucumber infused!!! It was so refreshing and delicious! I drank my water after my meal because thats when I found out it was infused, and it really helped finish off the meal experience refreshing my mouth and helping settle all the delicious rich foods! If you are in Uptown one night, The Rusty Monk is a MUST try!

Im a little upset because Google will not allow a 6th star for this review. Growing up in Whittier i have see businesses come and go and was turned away from really sitting down to eat but i have to tell you that has all changed with the Rusty Monk. Just after a short few visits i am not greeted at the door by name as if I were a close family or friend. The vibe is something Whittier has not had in over 10 years and this place just keeps getting better and better. If i would have to recommend anything i would have to say the Lamb burger cooked medium, even if you do not like it this way the cooks have a special way of just making magic happen with your taste buds. 6 starts and a i will see you again Rusty!!

Our server wasnt very attentive. There were a bunch of tables that hadnt been cleared and the restaurant wasnt busy. Almost all the dishes we had needed editing. My husband got lamb shepherd pie. It had so much rosemary my burger tasted like rosemary. Mac & cheese didnt really work in terms of flavors coming together. Brussels sprouts had too much balsamic. Very heavy handed with spices snd flavors. Not really enjoyable. I asked about a glass of wine. Server told me the bottle was opened yesterday. I appreciate the honesty, but didnt offer to open one for me.

Friends invited us out and being from Whittier we wanted to keep our business in town. They took us to The Rusty Monk. We had a great time, the food was wonderful and our waitress, Linda was excellent; cheerful, knowledgeable of the menu and attentive. We were told the portions were on the smaller size - well the was misinformation, the portions were actually a bit large, no regrets though, with 2 teenage boys at home the leftovers were gone in 60 seconds. We will go back and hope to have Linda as our waitress.

Stopped by the Rusty Monk for an after after-dinner drink with a few friends. The atmosphere is very laid back, classic rock playing in the background, and the rough unfinished appearance of the brick walls all lend itself to a great environment to enjoy a drink. I enjoyed a St. Peters cream stout, which had rich coffee/cream notes. They have an interesting selection of beers, decently outside of what youll find at a typical bar. I can see making my way there again.

Food. Music. Awesome!! Cool factor with Art Deco Bldg. Kyle (owner)... RIP. He was an awesome dude. Thank you for bringing this Belgium-German gastro-pub to Whittier. God bless you in Heaven! Had the steak sandwich. Wife had the burger. We shared both. And both were awesome. Lots of great beers on tap. I chose a nice glass of Cab though. : )) An absolute MUST is the German pretzel. Wow. Made fresh daily here!!!

Service was good and attentive. Appreciated Aarons recommendations. The pretzel itself was excellent, though I honestly found the beer cheese and mustard to distract from the flavor. The pastrami egg rolls were very interesting and complex, and the brat was very good as well. My impression was some hits, some near misses, but overall fairly good.

Great beer selection for Belgium, Germany, Japanese beers. Bavarian Pretzel is amazing and made in house. Make sure to get it with the beer cheese. They also have one if the best burgers around, the Rusty Monk Burger. The vibe is old fashioned eclectic, but at the same time feels cozy and inviting. Will make this a regular spot.

This my home away from home. Chef Jeffries Creations are amazing. The owner Colleen is a sweetheart. Its a great place to go with your friends and just belly up to the bar or take a date and sit in one of the booths. The pretzels are a must. They have a great selection of beer and wine.

Really enjoyed this spot. Quite the unique selection of beer and food. Its a bit on the pricy side, but its all warranted. They have some truly rare beer offerings, and the atmosphere of the place is both elegant and relaxing.

Great beer selection, a good place for German styles and Belgian brews. The food is okay, nothing special, more of a comfort style food that hits the spot if youre hungry, not very imaginative.
