Dont bother to go for their Ghost Chili "hot" wings! === Jaxs makes a big deal about their hot wings -- offering what the menu calls "the worlds hottest wings." Their hottest sauce is supposedly made from the one of the worlds hottest peppers called the Ghost Chili. This is why a friend and I went to Jax yesterday -- to eat these wings. = = = Disappointment all the way around. First, the menu says that if you can eat a full order of wings, you get your picture on their wall of fame. The first thing I did was look for that wall, only to be told it wasnt up. We found that odd, but we should have taken it as an indication that Jax doesnt really take the whole "Wing Thing" (as its called on their menu) seriously. = = = So we get the wings and were shocked at how mild they were. We actually asked the waitress to confirm that they had the Ghost Chili sauce on them. They did. She suggested that the kitchen could put more sauce on them, so we took her up on the offer. Now, here is where I was most disappointed: the extra sauce was cold. Yes, they added more sauce, but they couldnt be bothered to heat it up. Now I have cold wings. Yum! = = = So with three times as much sauce they still werent that hot. The first try was about as hot as what you would get from Wing Stops hot sauce (not their hottest). The second attempt slightly better, but not as hot as what either Wing Stop or Buffalo Wild Wings gives you with their hottest sauces -- not even close. I eat hotter food on a weekly basis at the Thai place across the street. = = = If youre going to make a big deal about your wings, calling them the hottest in the world and telling people that you use the Ghost Chili, take it seriously. We drove all the way from Reno just to try these wings -- if wed known it was a joke, we wouldnt wasted our time. And for gods sake, if you offer to make them hotter, DONT PUT COLD SAUCE ON THE FING WINGS! Thats just insulting and makes the whole experience that much worse. = = = I hear they have good food at Jax. I wouldnt know about anything other than the wings, so thats what this review is based on. After spending $40 for two people to have some cold wings with weak sauce, Im not impressed.

Being from Cali, my family and I were super excited to spot and visit this Food Network featured diner; we were ready to love it. But one thing I think I should mention beforhand: my father, brother, and I are dark skinned Filipinos. My moms fair-complected. Could that have been a factor as to how our experience went? Maybe, maybe not. Fair to say we did receive some scornful looks but thats past the point. Anyways, we walked in and werent surprised to see it was pretty busy. We were seated then we waited. Now it being busy, we expected a little wait before theyd acknowledge us. But while tables around us were tended to with enthusiasm and warm smiles and new parties were greeted and seated and checked in on every 5 minutes, even my little brother was wondering why we were being ignored. When some time had passed and we were finally tended to by some poor fellow who was probably paid by his coworkers to, safe to say we already felt pretty disheartened. But completely disregarding any discriminatory suspicions of mine, the food was pretty good and you get a little taste of that Food Network hype. And with the exception of mine and my familys experience, everyone seemed to really enjoy the environment. I had just only wished it didnt feel like we werent welcomed in it.

Overall, we liked Jax Truckee Diner, we just passed through and needed a bite to eat at 11am. I ordered a cup of New England Clam Chowder and a half House Salad with ranch. My husband had two eggs, two bacon, hashbrowns, and an English muffin. My two little girls shared a kids grilled cheese with fries. The chowder was not my favorite, not a creamy white chowder like I was hoping for. There was lots of clams, bacon, and potatoes. It wasnt bad, just not what I was hoping for. My salad included cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and a whole lot of spring mix - I would have liked some actual iceberg or romaine lettuce in there, but the ranch dressing was fantastic. My husbands eggs seemed a little undercooked for medium, the whites were still slightly runny. The bacon was perfect, both crispy and chewy, and the hashbrowns were pleasantly crisp in all the right places. I have to rave about the English muffin! I dont know if they make them there or bring them in, but they are obviously fresh made and amazing! The little girls liked their grilled cheese and fries, and it seemed to be made on great bread. Service was great, atmosphere was fun, whole place including bathrooms was clean. We will stop in again!

Worst Truckee Experience from the wait staff to the food. It was after 9pm and Jacks was the only restaurant without a half hour wait in July 2016 (now we know why): We ordered the fish and chips, which Guy Fieri raved about, unfortunately when it arrived it was burnt and the waitress had the nerve to say it was the panko crust that appears darker than the usual golden hue and she disregarded the fact that it was dried out in the middle and you could bend it like rubber. We insisted she take it back and we ordered the lobster pot pie instead, which she suggested. When that arrived there was literally one chunk of lobster inside the doughy, gummy filling and the crust was not flakey - it felt obvious it had been microwaved. The entire staff looked under twenty years of age and had no understanding of service. We ended up asking for a simple grilled cheese sandwich to curb our hunger pains as we were afraid to try anything else on the menu. That was the worst grilled cheese ever (no butter on the outside of the bread just a dry grilled cheese). To try and stay slightly positive - our son ordered a burger - no real complaints there but he was starving.

The food here is excellent. Tasty, well prepared, correct temperature, and plated with skill and care. I had the coby beef bacon wrapped meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini. The sweet bourbon sauce tied it all together when taken with a bite if the crisp shoestring onion rings perched atop if this anytime comfort food. My son had the fettuccini Alfredo, and I have to admit, I was a little jealous watching him tear into that fish without coming up for air. Fortunately for me, he ran out of steam toward the end, and I got to taste a fork swirl.... creamy, al dente and delicious, with just the right amount of garlic and salt, and the warm savory flavor of the cream and egg yolk coated my mouth and ruined me for the last of my mashed potatoes. We finished it all off with malted and milkshakes, I had coconut and he had vanilla with chocolate chips. We will definitely come back. I only have it 4 out of 5 stars because the place needs some TCL in the maintenance department. But if you can overlook the rugged diner scene, this place is perfect. Oh, and watching the trains pass by the window is cool.
