The Palms is a nice stop. Decent rooms, if youre not high maintenance, and the food was good enough to satisfy me (strawberry rhubarb pie was to die for.) I stayed here May 28-30, 2016. There was a very disturbing sound between 1:30-2am that was not far from our window. We were in room 5. I was still awake texting on my phone, but it woke my friend out of a dead sleep. Its hard to describe. Almost like a wheezing coughing hyperventilating, but it echoed, and it was hearty and very prominent. It was not far from our open window, but not right outside it either, I could tell that. After hearing it, we could not sleep all night. There is no adjective to describe this sound. It did not sound human, or from any animal (or mating call etc, Im familiar with them all, also looked them all up) and it sounds odd to say, but you could almost tell by the depth that it was something standing on 2 legs..??? I called early morning once we checked out to ask the front office if anyone had reported anything, but the daughter of the owners answered, and she wasnt very reliable (been up all night, and on another level... Met her the night before) and she didnt hear anything, nor did she really understand what I was asking or implying. If anyone else stayed there between those dates I know they had to have heard this. It has been very traumatic to my friend and I. Please respond to me if you were there those nights. Thanks.

Orick was amazing!! Cute little town! We stayed at the Palms Hotel, I was nervous at first because of all of the bad reviews, but I changed my mind once I got there. The room had two queen beds, it was large enough for our family of four, room 6. Room #8 has a microwave and a fridge if you need . Yes it is old, but when you get there you will understand why it is so old. The owner bought the hotel in the 50s and has been there ever since. It is a staple to that city. It does have a musty odor, but because it is so close to the beach, there is a lot of humidity, its been there for a while. It is very clean though. The bathroom was very clean as well. It is within walking distance to the beach, and to the river. It is about 20 minutes away from big stores, and gas stations. It is a small town, and if you take the time you can literally know everyone by the time you leave. We stayed there an entire week. The people there are so nice, and so accommodating! Bonnie is the housekeeper, and is great. She will accommodate everything you may need. The restaurant has great comfort food! Yummy! the Hen on a nest was one of my favorites! Tell Jerry I said hi! He is the waiter! I will definitely go there again!

I have stayed here more than once. It is usually my first stop from the Bay Area on a week-long photo excursion through northern Calif. and southern Oregon. Arriving from an 8-hour trip, Im exhausted the first day. Get up early the following morning to photo the elk for several hours then drive into Oregon. As others have written, it is indeed quaint (both the motel and restaurant). Then again, it is also true that the rooms have musty smells. Not sure how an old quaint hotel can be compared to city motels--it is not only unfair but unreasonable. The staff at both the hotel and restaurant are helpful. The food is on par with any other mom-pop shop Ive eaten at (for dinner). Since Im up early, I just walk across the street to the general store and get a quick breakfast burrito and coffee to go. In short, if you are someone who appreciates simple and quaint, this is very good. If you are the sort that wears high heels on the beach, you wont like it here.

Orick is a small town and the cafe (diner) is right on 101. I was passing through town and stopped in for coffee and a slice of coconut pie. The coconut pie was pretty good. Home made. Had bits of coconut in the coconut cream. What made it stand out was the crust, a crunchy crumb crust instead of your standard soggy pie crust. My waitress pointed out that the 82 year old chef (and owner?) made it. Yum! The coffee was also pretty good. Not your best, but definitely above average. I would have had breakfast or lunch but didnt time it right. This is definitely worth a stop if youre passing through. Try out the other things and add your review.

If you want excitement this is your place. We had a similar experience as the recent review posted. We were also awoke early in the morning (guessing around 2 am) with a screaming sound. If I had to describe it I would compare it to the sound of a Banshee. It was terrifying as we could tell it was very close. Weve been told by locals of a nearby fire which could explain why there may be critters coming close to town. The town Orick is nestled amongst the redwoods with an eerie mist that limits visibility. This is a good place to stay if you want the possibility of a great adventure.

Stopped by here on the way from Stone Lagoon from kayaking and on the way to Fern Canyon. It was pretty busy for lunch with a mix of locals and tourists. Food included your basic diner fare. Waitress was friendly and meal portions were a perfect pick me up between activities. The winner was the salad bar - which had a lot of varieties of salad - potato, macaroni, pickled vegetables, etc. While you dont have a lot of food options, this diner was a great choice. It is also connected to lodging, but cant comment on that except really easy to spot from freeway.

We stopped for a quick bite here and did not regret it! The staff were extremely friendly and were all wearing Star Wars shirts (an added bonus). They were very helpful and kept the atmosphere very relaxed. The place is a bit dated, but its clean, and the food was excellent. We had the clam chowder and the basket of chicken strips, neither of which disappointed. The prices arent too bad, especially as the portion sizes are plentiful. Also, breakfast is served all day. We would gladly visit again and recommend this place to anyone stopping through.

Most of the reviews seem to be for the diner which had we know we would have stopped at the other motel in town. Our room had a strong smell of chemical cleaners crossed with musty wet smells. The shower leaked all over the floor which probably was part of the reason for the smell. The door had been kicked in at sometime and the bed was old. It was clean but gross. If you are dead tired and desperate for a place to stop for the night like we were you dont have much choice but if you can make it to the next town I recommend it.

We had a reservation for two nights so that we could visit the redwoods. After the first night we discovered bedbugs crawling everywhere. We had to throw away our suitcases and all of our belongings. After showing the employees the bugs and a picture of what a bedbug is on Google they refunded our money and we left. We spent 7 times the cost of the hotel to replace our belongings. My daughter suffered from multiple bites. This is one of the most run down motels you will ever see.
