Glad to see that I am not the first one complaining that they wrote the tip on the receipt and just wanted me to sign that. WTF! Whats even worse, I decided to give a different amount of tip instead of going with the number they wrote for me. I wrote down $6 and they changed it to $8. I do not care about this $2, but this experience really irritates me. I spent ~20 minutes to file the dispute to get my $2 back. So you need to keep in mind how much you signed as total in case they may play this TRICK to you! And they sucks another reason. The total price on the check was much more than I expected. I asked the waitress and got the answer that the price I expected was from the lunch menu as they brought me the lunch menu when I ordered. The total price was about 20% more. So REMEMBER to ask for dinner menu if you are going at dinner time...

I would describe it as a special Japanese microcosm in Hollywood. Walk inside from under the lit-up Billboard chaos on Highland and find a soft, relaxing atmosphere with old Japanese films playing on the back wall. The soothing material textures and sound design made me feel as though I was in a spa rather than a sushi restaurant. On that note, the sushi here is excellent. I had yellowtail, spicy tuna and ell, all of which were on point. Spicy Tuna on crispy rice is interesting. Service is relaxed and good. Nice seaweed salad. Nice green tea. Delicious green tea tempura ice cream. I think its good for the price and location.

Great local sushi place. They have a lot of options without trying to be too cool (no crazy deep-fried American rolls here) or too fancy (like overcharging for a piece of fish because they added sauce to a plate). Just a simple, legit Japanese restaurant with great service, good food, and fresh fish. Actually surprised they dont charge more than they do, but thats just another one of the advantages of this place. A+++ great seller!

Frauds! (This an edit to my original review) A few days after our "dinner" we noticed theyd given themselves $10 extra tip! Well report these frauds to our credit card company. Never again. P.s. closely read the negative reviews here. Apparently they have a history of fraudulent tip behavior. Original review: The most overpriced dinner Ive ever had. Mediocre sushi sold at haute cuisine prices. I dont often say this, but...stay away.

One of my go to spots in Hollywood and I am a big time sushi guy. I wont just go anywhere. If youre really going for good sushi without the frills (i.e. Katsuya) or dont want to break the bank, definitely recommend this spot. Fresh, tasty, the classics as well as some of their own creations. Plus it doesnt get too crazy packed. Service has always been really attentive. Check it out.

Took my little sister here after watching Cirque du Soleils Iris at Kodak Theater. We had shrimp tempura hand roll, salmon nigiri, and the nabeyaki udon all for $35 including tip! Everything was fresh and delicious and service was outstanding given that we went in 30 minutes before closing. Our sushi chef was entertaining and funny, which is a plus!

Paid 30 to not even be full...incredibly small portions and grocery store style sushi with hard rice..all the reviews are fake for sure made by the staff. Also they have like 5 speciality rolls. Place was not good at all. I think you would be very full eating at Katsuya. Place is a ripoff and decor is horrible. Never will take my money again!

The food is good, especially for this area, but the service was far from quick. Had to wait 20 minutes after finishing my meal for the sea urchin sushi, which ordered as an extra. And another 10 minutes to get them to bring my check. Make sure you have enough time.

Ive eaten a lot of Sushi in Los Angeles and Ive got to say, Shin Taro is by far my favorite. The fish is always fresh, its always a nice quiet environment and its clean. Sometimes they have old Samurai movies projected on the wall as you eat. Its a great place!

My favorite Sushi place in LA!!!!!! (Cant have enough exclamation points to hit that thought home... its for real) I have never had something I dont like and the sushi chefs are phenomenal at carving fish. Get the red snapper sashimi!

Largest uni dish Ive had in LA. Be sure to check the hours. They have a long lunch break. This adds to their authenticity and yummy food. Its nice on the interior than the location would indicate.

We chose this place because its close to our hotel, and enjoyed a good meal of teryaki chicken at reasonable prices. The place was busy and the atmosphere inviting, the service was excellent also.

Great sushi with a traditional japanese vibe when you walk in through the front door you escape LA and almost transported to a feudal Japanese atmosphere
