Update: I had a mild case of food poisoning. Stomach pains later in the evening and upset stomach throughout the next day. OK, I usually try to write a fair review and look for the good in the products and services I have tried. However, this is one of the worst sushi places I have been to in quite a long time. The reason I chose this place was because of decent reviews on Yelp and fantastic ratings on Zagat. So lets at least start with the pros: Fantastic service, so at least the one star and A for effort in presentation and proportion size. Cons: I had order the chirashi and chicken kare age. The presentation was great until I started eating it. I usually like to taste the fish before dipping it in sauces but even the sauces didnt help cover the unfresh quality of seafood I had partake in tonights misadventures. I have been to many other sushi places and different types of fishes have a certain quality and taste due to their freshness. The salmon was tasteless, had a tinge of freezer burn and the texture was very chewy. Next came the sweet shrimp. Sweet shrimps are usually very buttery and are distinct in its taste. The one I had had a very fishy taste to it which covered up that buttery quality. Next came tuna, yellowtail, and albacore in which all had an extreme unfresh fishy taste to them and left a bad taste in my mouth after paying the bill. As for the chicken kare age, they looked like poorly battered frozen chicken strips. It tasted like it has been refried twice straight out from the freezer and had the texture and consistency of jerky. I have ordered a good amount of chicken kare age in the past at other Japanese restaurants and they did not look anything like what I had ordered from this place. Bottom line is that for the price I paid for the meal and quality of the food, I highly recommend not coming here for sushi.

I have been a big sushi fan for years and for the most part I have tried almost every sushi restaurant within the area. If you know sushi you know that there are two things that qualify how good it tasts - (1) the quality of the fish (i.e. freshness, the cut location) and (2) preparation/presentation. Maki’s consistently has very fresh fish and the best cuts possible. Bobbie is also a master sushi chef who knows how to prepare and present the delicate flesh to make sure you get the best experience out of each piece. If all this was not good enough Maki also has very reasonable prices. In my humble opinion, Maki & Sushi is the best sushi restaurant in town. Since my friend introduced me to the place (thanks Ian ;) this is the only place I go when I am in the mood for quality sushi. PS: Bobbie (the owner and chef) is a great guy. If you want "extra benefits" seat at the bar and do not forget to share your Saki with him ;)

stayed at a nearby hotel for the ren fair, used my android phone to find this place, usual deal. surprised how good it was, me and a friend went on a weekend night around 9-10 and we got the last 2 seats in the house. the sushi was quite good, we ordered 5 rolls total and one large sapporo, and the tab was about 60 bucks, cant complain. service was very good and even the music was pretty doom too, which is especially awesome since on the way out i noticed it was a multidisc system that was playing a CD, therefore it was something that someone there chose rather than a muzak system. a good place to keep in your culinary deck of cards.

The manager was a bit rude when we first got there. It was freezing cold outside but we were not allowed to wait inside nor were we allowed to be seated by the bar when it was clearly placed and ready for us to be seated. We were later seated at the same location where we asked earlier to be seated -__- I am, however happy that they offer vegetarian options. Many Japanese places have limited options for me but they actually had a veggie combo. A big udon noodle veggie soup and 8 pieces of Veggie roll on the side. All were perfect on a cool thanksgiving day like today.

Ive been going to Maki & Sushi since February 2012. The prices have always been good and as advertised. The new menu is not published. There is and upcharge of nearly 1/2 the menu cost if you select specific sahimi from the lunch menu as advertised. This means that if you choose all sashimi for your combination it nearly doubles the cost. I always tipped 30-35% because of prompt service and food quality. I do not appreciate being gouged because of greedy management. I wont go there for lunch anymore!!

Theres only handful of sushi places in this wealthy Asian community. This sushi place is one of a few. The place is small only has like 10 table and no table for a big group. Food selection are quite Americanized however their takan Wana get my attention the most. This is a sashimi octopus with out the head but the quality was fresh and good. However their sushi roll wasnt good and lack the sauce to match it. The compliment miso soup was delicious.

I am a regular at Maki & Sushi. I have been coming for years, every time I stayed at any hotel across the street and once a week since I moved in the area. The food is consistently good and the prices are reasonable, especially for lunch. The service is very good and usually fast. It can get busy during rush hour, but we always get seated quickly. My favorite is the lunch box with Sushi and Spicy Tuna :-)

This place is a touch of Japan. The sushi is definitely western fusion, but excellent. Ambiance is that of dozens of similar restaurants Ive visited in Japan, so much so that it felt like Japan. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and perfectly presented. Staff was professional, attentive, and as good as they come. This is a place well worth another visit.

I love, love this Sushi place. Im very picky about the Sushi I eat. Staff is very attentive and excellent. The miso soup and hot tea are complimentary.(very nice) The Mexican roll, spicy tuna roll, the special Rainbow roll, and crunch roll are our favorites. Best sushi place around. 5 stars and more.

Still, this is the best in Arcadia that Ive found. Nothing close to the best in LA. Sashimi was fresh as it should be. Its difficult to excel as a sushi restaurant because the bar is so high already. Maki & Sushi meets the standard, and goes a little past it.

$15 combo meal can get you 6 pieces of sashimi and a roll (California, spicy tuna, vegetable, etc.). Really fantastic value. The sushi chefs and wait staff are friendly, especially to people who show up regularly.

This is my favorite sushi place in the area and I go several times a month! (Or week, sometimes!) I like their combination bento boxes; the portions are large. They also have some inventive sushi rolls.
