Worst service is Long Beach! There is another sushi place down the block on Broadway that treated us amazing! Tonight we had one of the WORST experiences at a sushi place in Long Beach ...just from interacting with the host at Octopus. It is my husbands birthday and we were happy this place was open late. We arrived and asked if we could sit at the bar - there were 4 other people in front of us. We were quickly stopped in the middle of the question and we were told NOOO seating anywhere. We saw 2 booths open and 2 of their bars had 8 empty chairs each!!! We approached a server and she said they are short staffed so our food might take longer than 30 mins. We were ok with that as long as we could sit and relax, look at the menu (we havent been here before). She told us to go to the host again. As soon as I approached him, his attitude was short and he seemed dismissive. We asked if we can seat at the bar as they were empty but his response was the same - NO seating anywhere. We asked how long until he knows when we can seat and he said 35 minutes...this made no sense and we realized that even though he might have been stressed he was not interested in our business!!! We will not go back there again! Feeling unwelcomed is the worst after working 12 hour days ourselves. Being tired does not excuse manners, politeness and courtesy. We were as understanding as we could be but realized that it wouldnt have been pleasant to go in once our initial experience made us feel so unimportant and inconvenient.

We just tried their all you can eat sushi "brunch". Plusses: the sushi is (mostly) extremely tasty, and its all you can eat (fresh, mostly tasty) sushi for under 20 bucks before tip, which is pretty crazy. -Plus- your choice of champagne or house sake, and their house sake was pretty tasty too. Minor complaints, which would not at all stop me from doing it again, but I still feel like complaining: they call it a brunch, but theyre not open until noon, which wouldnt be such an issue if they had, anywhere on the outside of the building, a sign saying when they open (noon is totally not brunch. We had to go inside, find someone to ask, then come back in an hour.) So they could be a bit more organized. I also wouldve liked it if the menus saying what items you were allowed to order as part of the event, also said what all the items -were-, rather than having to figure that out on the other menu (that contained some items not available for brunch, and -didnt- contain all the items that were.) We also werent particularly impressed with the rose roll, which turned out to basically just be a chopped salmon roll. Everything else was great, though, and I would totally go back. edit: since that review, I have in fact been back several times, all for their brunch, because darn that is a lot of tasty sushi for the price. Foods been universally great; service has varied pretty dramatically, though its never been *bad*, just sometimes its amazing and sometimes its only decent.

A good place to meet in downtown for lunch or happy hour. They have an extensive menu, lunch specials available, their Carpaccio is delicious, all you can eat menu is a great deal if youre hungry. Unfortunately, the restaurant is pretty run down as others have said. The chairs and seats feels dirty and many have tears and stains. Bathrooms have to be maintained better and renovated. Most of all, I come here for business lunches or happy hour about 2-3 times a month, and they play the SAME playlist of Kaskade songs from 2009. I feel so bad for the employees they listen to the same songs everyday. Its time to switch around your playlists or get Spotify. I really will stop coming because of the outdated repetitive party fist-bumping music. It shows that you are not current and stuck in the last decade. Also, there is no parking validation, you will have to park at meters or on of the nearby parking structures.

We have been going to Octopus at least 3 times a month for years. It was outstanding---ALWAYS. We just went Sunday afternoon and were shocked! After having been there last week, when everything was typically wonderful, it was like someone flipped a light switch. We recognized NONE of the usual management and staff. Four different things we usually order, including crab and white tuna, we suddenly no longer available--without explanation! Recipes were altered, portions diminished and are usual calamari was deep fried to within an inch of its life. Even worse, these pieces of crunchy shoe-leather were tiny and I found a discarded, deep-fried shrimp tail in it. WHAT HAPPENED????? I hope this is just an aberration---we REALLY want to keep going here. Does anyone know what has occurred?

Amazing! Simply amazing! Basically the best sushi place in Long Beach. For me personally its my favorite place to get sushi. The prices are average to begin with, comparable to almost every other quality sushi bar. But they do have happy hour specials and an All you can eat option that are very good. The rolls are big, the flavor is awesome, and the service is good. The decor is very modern. Very dark with accent lights. The location is perfect. Right in downtown on Pine. Grab some sushi and you can wrap up your evening strolling down to the Pike or Shoreline Village.

Three stars means the place is "OK". Which is unfortunate. Good food, However my experience was totally ruined by the rudeness of our waiter. I believe his name was David. He kept rushing us, had such a rude, demeanor, everytime we asked for anything he either shook his head about or didnt bring at all (my refill, more wasabi). I went in with a party of 4, but I will NOT be returning. Like I said, unfortunate because the food was delicious.

I have been here a few times and each time its great. I see people are complaining about the service, but I havent had a problem with the service at all. They were all really prompt and asked me if I needed anything. The sushi is also very delicious and the prices are awesome. If you go during happy hour as well you wont be disappointed, their premium rolls are at a discounted price as well as certain types of alcohol. Give it a try :D

We visited recently after attending a Tradeshow at the long beach convention center. Its only about a 5-10 minute walk. Unfortunately our experience wasnt really that great. One of our group members is Gluten free, and although its never easy, the staff struggled with answering questions about the menu. The sushi was "alright" but specifically the Octopus (which I love!) was really fishy. I probably wouldnt head back there again.

Staff was very friendly, free wifi. Salad was great. Never had bones in a yellowtail handroll until today and I been a sushi fan since 1992. Mackeral was amazing, Tiger Roll too much crab filler and sauce. Not for the purist. Wasabi very dry, ginger good, tea good, ice water very good, ha. I wouldnt go back with so much great sushi in cali. Staff friendly but does not pay attention to detail.

I have been going to this place for a little while now. They always have great food and decent prices. Service is usually top notch. The decor could use a little bit of a face lift as there are things like cables and lamps hanging out if place. Overall a great place to eat. Try the hot roll and the Alaskan roll. If you have room afterwards, try the tempura Twinkies.
