When I first walked in I had the feeling I was in Jersey. Has the whole look and feel. Thats not a bad thing either. A diner should look like a diner.. We sat in a window booth and it was OK. Lumpy seat but like I said...a diner is a diner. . Menu was standard diner fare. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Medium. With onion rings and a side salad. The sald was meh. It consisted of 90% iceberg lettuce and that was mostly hard white center of the head. The rest was carrot shavings. Barely a sald. I asked for blue cheese and balsamic vinaigrette in the side. They brought me a full cup of watery Bleu and a bottle of Balsamic Vinegar . Then came the burger....cooked to an inch of its life and full of gristle. The onion rings were bearable... Barely. The breading was flour based and too thin. They also over cooked em so the outside was a bit burnt and the inside was sloppy soft. My girlfriend had the meatloaf (which the waitress -a very nice older woman- highly recommended) and she too two bites of it and left the rest. The gravy was definitely generic canned and it showed. 1 burger plate, 1 meatloaf and a couple cokes....$37 plus tip. The service was actually pretty good but in the end the food was just not worth the price. Ate half just because I was really hungry. There were 8 LAPD eating there so I had figured it was pretty good but either they get a different menu or they were investigating a crime against stomachs. Would not recommend.

What a fantastic time capsule of an LA diner. Great daily specials and friendly staff. I like that they have the glass case with the rotating pies and cakes. But, what brings me back on occasion is there amazing vegetable soup!

Astro is a mentally comfortable place for me to hang. Its one of my go-to joints. I would never rave about the food or the comfortableness of the booths, however, I never stop coming back. Over the years, pricing have increased and the food has remained unchanged...No new innovations here. It is, was and always will be Astro. The place is packed on weekends for breakfast and has a steady stream of business most other times for eat in and carryout. The best part of the Astro experience is the wait staff. Each one is friendly and takes good care of me as I hang for hours reading and writing here a. Ouple days each month. In all my years of patronizing Astro, the owner/owners family have never spoken to me outside of ringing me up. Jans on Beverly was the sister restaurant to Astro, though Jans is now closed. Reliably good dishes: breakfast (eggs are fresh; sausage has casings), slow-cooked dinner specials (lamb shank after 6pm is at its best), and fried chicken.

Ive been eating there for 30 years. The food is just OK, the atmosphere is old time diner, staff usually fits the atmosphere. My neighbor said, "I didnt know anyone went there except drug addicts and cops." It certainly covers those two populations. The other day I asked for a second tea bag, theirs are just the cheap black tea, and for the first time in 30 years was told "No." Management allows unlimited refills of coffee and sodas, but a second tea bag to replace a first that makes only 2 cups of tea, must be paid for fully again. I asked to see the owner/manager, and he was straight out rude and abrupt. Accordingly, given how marginal the food is, I told him that after 30 years, I was "done with you guys." He could have cared less. To those who read this, I suggest this. You can get far better food at any number of Silver Lakes growing number of great restaurants at the same price or even better price. Why deal with that attitude?

The servers here are so friendly and have great attitudes. The food is always really good, with really generous portions. Ive tried so many things and loved them all. The Mexican omelet is like a burrito inside egg instead of tortilla- the beans are really good. The fritter is always super bomb. Sweet things like waffles, pancakes and french toast are great- they come with mounds of fruit on top and either syrup or yummy Lechers. I have no complaints about this place at all. Oh and somebody said they use RC cola- I beg to differ, its Coca-Cola. Come here for cheap in price, good in quality food, a fun atmosphere, wonderful service.

Astro family restaurant is a charming place to go for a nice meal. I went with my family here for Fathers Day breakfast back on June 18th and I had a wonderful time. We were seated promptly, our drinks orders taken, we were given plenty of time to look through the menu, even though we already knew what wanted. Our food arrived hot and fresh, our drinks refilled, the wait staff was professional and courteous. I especially love the beautiful mid century architecture and warm interior. I look forward to going again.

the service was great no complaint on that end but the food is overly priced for the taste. did not like the fact that the tip was added on the bill im not cheap ill leave a tip when service is to satisfacoty; which it was but that does not mean I have to leave a tip so dont add it to the bill. A TIP IS COSTUMARY NOT REQUIRED. Its basicly a Dennys but with less taste and less cooking skills

I came here on a whim hoping to grab a quick, cheap breakfast. But I regret that. The atmosphere makes it seem like the food should be cheap and delicious. Its not. The prices are about the same as Home, down the street, but the food is very plain, and just not very good at all. Next time I will just go to Home.

Stood there for 10 minutes and no one was around to seat me. Then sat myself and no one came to the table. Finally we moved tables and someone came with menus. They got my order wrong, but the food was alright. I dont really get this place.

Good service, good food! I was really impressed with the overall feel of the place. A very charming decor, friendly service and acceptable prices as well. This was my first visit, and I definitely plan on returning time and time again!

Great place for a quiet morning breakfast. The staff is always warm and welcoming. The food is served hot and always at the same time. The waiter kept a vigilant eye on our coffee and came by every few minutes to refill our cup

One star for the time machine experience. This place and the people are from an other time. The food was bland and expensive. There are many healthier and tastier alternatives in the neighborhood.
