In a week span we visited twice. I didnt opt for the chicken on my first visit but had the braised beef instead, which by far was tender and delicious. It was over a heap of mash potatoes and gravy. DELICIOUS! My daughter had the chicken tenders and waffles, my boyfriend had the half chicken and bacon cheddar waffles. The waffles were perfect! Crispy on the outside, airy and not dense like a pancake. Who knew cheddar and bacon on a waffle would be amazing. Each waffle dish was served with warm syrup! The chicken tenders were delicious as was the half chicken. We did find our half chicken was a little pink and bloody on the inside however we were assured that they cook it by temperature and it was safe to eat. After voicing our concern we had our waitress, the manager, and several other servers assure us that it was ok. After the first response we were good but kept getting bombarded with explanation. Which seemed a little odd to me. But whatever. Our second visit we all got chicken tenders because, although its ok to eat middle pink chicken, we were still a little freaked out and not used to it. We again got the bacon cheddar waffles. Our meal was again, DELICIOUS! Service was good, they were attentive both times and friendly. We also got doughnuts on our first visit. They were okay. The donuts arent anything special. We didnt get any on our second visit. The decor was super cute. We went on a weekday both times around 5 pm and it was almost empty. Best time to go.

Where do I start? This establishment is very disorganized. The staff is rude and the management is very unprofessional. They mixed up orders and take a very long time to have it ready. I witnessed when a customer that wanted take their food home, the chef tossed the container at the bar counter without saying a word and walked away. The food is ok but I believe its a bit overpriced for the quality. If the management was a bit more involved with their staff and customers, Im sure they would have more repeat business. But thats not the case. The manager has no clue to resolve any issues; instead she scolds her employees in front of the customers. Clearly, no place I would recommend to anyone. I am not trying to bash this place by any means; just voicing my opinion on what I have been exposed to.

Very cute location and some great aspects but needs work. I like the concept and menu but it was not executed very well. They brought out my dish in parts and then one part of my friends meal and finally about 15 minutes later they brought the bacon. Which was a disappointment. The "thick" bacon was not thick and lacked flavor. The fried chicken on the biscuit sandwich done Nashville style was the highlight as it was very flavorful. The servers were very nice however the service was quite slow. It wasnt even that packed in there so it was hard to figure out why it was so slow. Lastly do not order the black tea. Gross.

I really struggled to find at least one nice thing to write about this place. Service was nonexistent - waited for 5 minutes at the door for someone to even acknowledge us, let alone seat us. Milkshakes are overpriced at $9 and it wasnt really a shake, it was just a glass of cold milk with flavoring. We pointed that out to our server (whom Im fairly certain was drunk at 3pm) and she didnt make any attempt to apologize or correct it. As we left we passed by 3 employees at the door that didnt bother to say goodbye or thank you. Dont waste your time here, the staff certainly wont waste theirs on serving you.

Good coffee, fried chicken delicious. Staff service was great, super helpful. Not at all happy with manager. We brought 40 for early (9am) breakfast after a wedding, she repeated to guests and parents "18% will be added to your bill", I heard from three others. And she did not accommodate another family table of 6 because of reservations??. But during our stay, there were three tables that were empty plus ample space at counters. Not good customer service by the manager.

Went here twice while on a vacation...first time was for dinner... I had read reviews of their other location in San Diego and was anxious to give it a try ... unfortunately my chicken was burned and it was served after my wife finished her dinner. The manager came over and apologized and didnt charge us (thanks) and asked us to try again while in town We did so for breakfast and had an equally disappointing experience:(

Southern comfort food in San Diego! If you appreciate good fried chicken, gumbo, grits, collard greens and the like, you will love this gem of an eatery. Everything I tried exceeded my expectations. Server was super friendly and helpful. Lovely patio and ambiance. Excellent variety of choices for food, drinks, and dessert. Cold brew coffee on tap. Loved it and will be back frequently!!

Order ahead...like months ahead...the wait staff is super friendly, maybe because they are used to apologizing over and over for the food taking forever. The constant theme in reviews is how long the food takes and I can attest. I ordered the jambalaya and it literally took over an hour. If the food was amazing maybe I could stomach the wait, but its not, mediocre at best.

The food is really good. The chicken sloppy joe is great. Fries are good too. It is over priced especially any add ons. But, its La Jolla and the rent is obscene. I gave it two stars because they now only serve dinner at lunch time. No appetizers, salads, or sandwichs at lunch. That makes absolutely no sense at all.

This place lived up to expectations. The hot fried chicken was amazing, as were the fried pickles and green tomatoes. Very flavorful and not too greasy. Everything was fresh and had its own distinct flavor. Donuts were great too. Unlike any other Id had before. Service was also stellar. 5 stars all around.

Not sure about the complaints, because this place was awesome. We got the beigniets, pork belly biscuit, mac and cheese, and quarter chicken. The flavor was great, the portions were large, and the staff was friendly. Top that off with strong coffee and this is a restaurant I would definitely go back to.

Fire the manager, replace the waiters, keep the food. Sad, the owner has spent a lot of money, but the waiters are not well managed. As customers wait, they check their Facebook page on their phones. They work 1/2 as hard as they could. So obviously an issue with the manger. Easy to fix.

Came for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess and seated at a lovely table on the patio. Nitro coffee was a great start and we were served our food quickly. It was delicious. Great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch and donuts!

Outstanding Southern food! Try Grandmas Gumbo with a side of Kiss My Grits and a drinking jar full of Stumptown Chocolate iced, cold brew coffee. Of course, dont forget the Beignets for dessert. We left with big smiles! :-)
