NOTE: I was PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED at this establishment, and this review will cover both B&C as an employer and as a dining establishment. AS AN EMPLOYER: 0 STARS, Do not work here. Work at a Starbucks. Seriously. I abhor Starbucks (and I dont and never will work there, either), but its better. You will be asked to perform duties far exceeding those of any other cafe, in fact, you will be asked to do more than most waiters and bussers combined at most restaurants. But because of the format/style of the store, and lack of credit card tips, you will receive less in tip money than Starbucks. (Nor would you get any benefits.) The extra dollar, dollar fifty you might get as a wage will not make up for it. Basically, you will work five times harder here than at ANY other cafe or restaurant, but you will not make as much money, and probably far less. (Youll also receive the same amount of grief from customers as Starbucks, dont think that youll be able to escape that.) AS A DINING ESTABLISHMENT - BREAD : 5 STARS. I quit some time ago, and as you can probably tell, I dont enjoy the establishment all that much. But for good bread, if you are willing to pay for it, I have yet to find better in any chain or independent establishment. My personal favorite is the Jalapeno & Cheese, delicious all by itself, BUT only on certain days. Most days it has probably like one slice of a jalapeno through-out the entire loaf (for the sissies), but sometimes you get the super extra delicious loaf which probably averages a jalapeno slice per half -handful of bread, just right. Other really (really) good loaves are : Carmelized onion, rosemary & olive oil, seedy sourdough baguette (covered in poppy, sesame, anise and maybe one or two others, so good). MEALS : 4 STARS. The meals are also pretty good. Almost every soup is really well done, the Thai Rice being one of my faves. There are usually only two soup choices per day, but at least one of those two will please you. The sandwiches are all pretty good, especially the once a week Portabello Mushroom special and the every day curried chicken salad (though I change to rosemary bread instead of the fig & anise). CONFECTIONS : 4 STARS. I think I cant eat sugary baked goods anymore due to my time working here and the enormous amount consumed in that span. If you like muffins, danishes, etc. theyre all good, though the cinnamon rolls can be a bit dry for my liking. The coffees just OK, the tea selection is great with around 14 choices, and it looks like theyre applying for a liquor license which should be a nice touch. INTERIOR : 2 STARS. Even assuming I never worked here, I dont think I would ever dine in at this establishment except maybe from 4 to 6 PM. At any other time, it will likely be incredibly busy, and because of the awful layout of the store, youre very likely to be pushed, jostled, and asked to move. Picture your typical busy cafe, but add in a whole lot of people who are there just to buy the bread. There is outside seating, but again, when its busy, its uncomfortably so. As a final note : If youre a customer here, please tip a lot better than you do. You have no idea how much harder these people work than the waiters youll give a $5 tip for a $20 meal. The average tip at Bread & Cie for a $20 meal is probably around a quarter. If that. (No, not hyperbole.)

Great Bread, Horrible Service. The bread here is very good and I go here once a week to buy bread. The other food leaves me wanting more flavor. The service is amazingly bad. When you are there with only one other person in line you can watch 5 people behind the counter doing nothing, walking around, striking a pose, rushing to the back. I have had someone come up to the counter, look off to the right for 30 seconds before asking me what I would like. They can have two cash registers "open" but you can only go to one. The manager is also very busy walking around. Its amazing, there would be no unemployment in the USA if we had to hire so many to do so little. You can usually find one person who is doing most of the work. But lets not forget the attitude they have when they do help you. Pink Berry youve met your match

Based off their pastry/dessert selection alone, I would not be inclined to visit. The selections were varied but did not look as alluring as their bread selection. I chose a pistachio petit four and their tiramisu as it was the only two things that caught my eye and my dates. I felt the petit four was bland and tough despite the fact that perhaps thats how they are supposed to be (it was my first one) and the tiramisu lacked the espresso oomph I long for when I have tiramisu. My date found out he had a nut allergy afterwards after consuming our desserts and luckily a Walgreens was around the corner. I called the manager and found out that even desserts that do not have nuts may be cross contaminated by surfaces where nuts were prepared. Needless to say, next time I will go in to try only the bread.

Ive been coming to Bread & Cie almost 10 years now. Like any store, they occasionally have hiccups in service. But far more common is kind and helpful service. But I come here for the bread. The bread is excellent if you get the stuff baked at the cafe. Early morning (at opening time) is the wholesale bread. It has a different crust that I dont like as much. I try to come a little later and get the fresh (often warm) bread. When we have guests, we bring them here for bread. The sandwich offerings are tasty. The pastries are very good. Beware the Pan au Chocolate. This should be named "Giant Hunk of Chocolate with a Tiny Bit of Bread." I honestly recommend this place to anybody who likes bread.

Well I would stick to just pastries and drinks unless they are bottled. They wrote down our whole order repeated it back to us then we sat down. The guy at the cashier couldnt read the receipt and was under a lot of stressed. He ended up charging us for things we didnt order. We didnt end up getting our whole order when the food arrived. We kindly asked for the rest of it and they were very rude and said we didnt pay for it. We then showed our receipt and they didnt apologize or make an effort to make things better. When our food arrived all of it was under cooked and very unpleasant. I tried to get the attention of a staff member but they seemed to be annoyed that we were unhappy.

Catering: avoid, cannot be trusted (see below) Coffee/dining in: good food and coffee, nice staff, pleasing decor. Ordered five cakes for a catered event. We confirmed they got the order: one month before the event, one week before the event, three days before the event. The day before the event: they had completely forgotten about the order. To their credit, they still provided five cakes, but of different kinds. We had no choice but to accept, as it was too late to find a new caterer. The manager promised to refund the order. When we contacted them back for a refund, we were given the run-around multiple times by both manager and staff, no refund provided.
