BBD is an upmarket Dennys. The food is better quality, the service is much better and the atmosphere is less faded. For those who have never been, the emphasis is on value for money (aka huge portions). There are things like 1lb burgers lurking on the menu. Breakfast is served all-day with large portions. (It is telling that a more normal portion is listed on the menu as "a little less"!). This BBD is tucked away with a hotel and a gas station - and at peak times, parking can become congested. For faster seating a small party, as with all BBDs, it has lots of room at a the counter. The food is fine, the atmosphere is fine, and the service is always a cut above any of the chain competitors.

Ricardo (our waiter) forgot how to do his job. We couldnt understand most of what he was saying because he spoke way too fast and slurred his speech. His body language resembled a lazy high school drop-out making it very clear he only cared about the paycheck he would receive after the gig. He gave us our bill BEFORE THE FOOD WAS EVEN SERVED and said something along the lines of "heres the bill, Ill get someone to cover... Here it is so I can take my break." He really angered my mom and kinda ruined our breakfast. Very disappointed, Black bear is usually on point with service, this was definitely unusual.

I have been a big fan of Black Bear. I was introduced to BB after scaling Mt Shasta in 1999. Since then, we have eaten BBs in Walnut Creek, Redding, and now in our hometown, Danville. Our experience has been generally good except for tonight, the night before Thanksgiving. The place is crowded and there is only one cook. We have been waiting for nearly 45 minutes for our food and we are still waiting...for a restaurant that is generally known for speed. Our waiter is doing all he can do to keep us happy. Not sure the GM at this location is on top of his game serving customers.

I had to tell the person taking my order over the phone my order four times and they still got it wrong. I had the Eggs Benedict and I wanted over easy eggs and still they gave me poached, when I went to pick up the food they didnt even have my eggs Benedict made they had forgotten it then they asked what came with the other meal I had gotten, I was shocked they didnt know what came on their own meals. Horrible service, the employees are really dumb.

This place has a very limited menu. There is one item I have had which I never ordered again (chicken parmesan) but their meatloaf, stew, and steak are all surprisingly delicious, as is their homemade cornbread. They give you a lot for your money and servive is consistently good. This is a place to go to when feeling casual as it is a Lyons- type atmosphere. But with better, albeit fewer choices, food.

My boyfriend at i had an awsome wayter Joe. Joe came and checked on us many times asking how everything was going. How is your meal going is there anything else that I can get for you. Telling us about the specials you have at Black bear diner. I personally would love to have Joe as my wayter again. Every time I have had him for a wayter in the past and present he has been fonomble! Thank you Joe.

Ive eaten here probably 10 times now. All of their servers are wonderful, including especially the great one himself, Ray. Once or twice something I ordered came to me not as good as it couldve been. I merely mentioned it to my server, who took care of it instantly and it came back perfect. They go the extra mile in many different ways and I think theyll do great in this location.

Ive been to Black Bear Diner in Danville about a half dozen times, now. Service and food are excellent. Prices are good. Im glad that Black Bear Diner took over the location where Dennys in Danville used to be. We needed a good diner type restaurant there for awhile. Black Bear Diner REALLY fills this niche well. I hope they stay permanently at this location.

I was here for a chamber of commerce mixer. The server was extremely friendly even though most people only asked for water. It was clean. I had several appetizers and it was normal diner fair. Im giving them a fourth star due to the waiter. Its conviently right off the freeway but hidden, i didnt notice it till a few weeks after moving to danville.

This Black Bear has daily specials that are very tasty.. Even if they dont advertise the special you want theyll make it for you. I like the trip tip scramble. The staff is friendly quick and efficient.

The portions, and not just that but the SIZES, are unreal! I had what they call a biscuit, it was literally the size of a pineapple. I had to cut an actual biscuit-sized biscuit OFF of the biscuit!

Great place to bring the family given the variety of food and that breakfast is served all day. Also, being open until 10pm is nice as most restaurants in the area close at 9pm.

Food used to be good, got bought out by Applebees and now the food is terrible, many of the old time favorites are gone. Short story is I wont go back and I wont recommend it.
