There are endless Indian restaurants in LA, but this one is my new favorite with its authentic dishes from Kerala. The food is thoughtfully prepared, with subtle infusions of spices in delicate sauces; I felt light yet satiated after eating here. First time I ordered the masala dosa...my friends told me that it comes very thin and crisp (an art form to prepare it this way), however, I prefer mine a little softer and they accommodated that request. We ordered cardamom chai which was AMAZING (disclaimer: I LOVE cardamom, so anything with a lot of cardamom is going to get 5 stars from me). On the next visit I ordered Kerala Fish Curry. It comes "medium" spice which seemed about right for this gringo gal (perhaps I could have tolerated a tad more spice...but couldnt get that message across and was having flash backs to my travels in India ...how do you say "a tad more" in malayalam?). The curry was delicately seasoned with layers of subtle spices....not greasy or heavy. Service is leisurely and all smiles. The staff is friendly and helpful. If youre in a rush, let them know...otherwise, chill and let the flavors and warm hospitality transport you to South India.

This place has been in my neighborhood (and collecting praise from Jonathan Gold, among others) for years, but for some reason I hadnt eaten there yet. No more! Ive gone twice in two weeks, and Im sold. I have a favorite dish, already: cocktail uthappam with channa, which is five different pancakes made from rice and lentil flour, each with its own (delicious) flavor, accompanied by two sauces and a small bowl of channa masala. Share these and get another dish or two and youll be set--and stuffed. The service was very attentive and gracious both times we were there, and Im eager to try the rest of the menu. But Ill have trouble not ordering the uthappam every time. Sigh.

After giving it a try 3x, Indian food is not my thing. I came here because its near my apartment, was on Jonathan Golds list, and seems relatively cheap. Great husband and wife team that owns and manages the restaurant. They are such sweet people who really seems to enjoy managing the restaurant. I got the Tali and my boo got the Tikki Masala. I LOVE the naan it comes with. He loved the dishes, and I probably would too if I liked Indian food. I cant say much about this except the service is awesome! Mindy Kahling posted an instagram photo of this place recently and its dessert... I want to go back and give THAT a try haha.

A Jonathan Gold pick and an Indian restaurant in West LA - how could I not go? Mayura has keralese items on their menu, and I highly suggest you try them because its their specialty! The special shrimp biriyani is bursting with flavor and the portion sizes are hefty. The soft appam melts in your mouth and cuts down on the spiciness of the fish curry (also recommended). The staff is attentive when theyre not busy, and they can get very busy! Absolutely love this place. Even have tried their butter chicken and naan, north Indian dishes on their menu, and they were equally delicious.

amazing Kerala cuisine , we were just visiting LA for couple of days and we had lunch here , we liked it so much that we came back to mayura for dinner that day and following the day too . We were a party of 4 adults and a 16 month old . Hostess Mrs. Padmini is a very kind person ,she served rice , dhal and curd for my 16 month old son for no charge and those stuffs were not even in our menu. Our picky eater son loved the food here since it tastes like home cooked meal . Ripe plantain fritters was absolutely tasty. Theyre buffet menu too was very good.

Ive been to Mayura several times now and each time the food has been great. I have had several dishes myself and sampled a lot more, but my favorite remains the Kerala Fish (made with Tilapia) Curry with Appam. The Rava Dosas and Thali are my favorites on the vegetarian side. In addition to the South Indian dishes, Mayura also has a large selection of North Indian dishes. I like the Haleem (not always available, though). The best reason to go back, is Padmini, the hostess. She is always cheerful and making sure you have the best dining experience.

I love Indian food, and I discovered a new regional Indian food restaurant that specializes in the cuisine of Southern India. Mayura serves my favorites, and they have new dishes that I discovered there. Padmini is the most gracious hostess, and genuinely makes me feel welcome. The ambiance is attractive, the service is friendly, and the food is first rate. I am grateful to have found another great hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Los Angeles, and I recommend Mayura to anyone who wants to enjoy the cuisine of Southern India.

I know the owners and their old restaurant in Kerala, India. They were well known for their quality and customer satisfaction in India too. I have been looking for an authentic Indian especially Kerala special food, and my friend told there is a restaurant named Mayura in LA. I just went to check it out and i was surprised to see the owners and their menu. Its the same old people delivering the best in quality and tasty food. If you want to really taste some authentic Kerala food, I recommend this place.

Dont be fooled like me, I drove for like half an hour to get to this place. I was so freaking hungry, and when Im hungry I taste anything good. The chicken beryani sucks. The chicken is not cooked well and has some blood. It also tasted like chicken. Awful. The chicken tikka masala is not great, the only thing I liked was the naan and the dosa masala!!!! I will never go back to this place. Oh yeah , not mentioning the sleepy waiter and the dirty environment. Aghhh, im going to get a burger after this.

Let me start by saying the food was above average, didnt blow me away but was good I liked it. I did the online ordering and it said the food would be ready in 30 minutes. When I showed up 45 minutes after I ordered they said they hadnt started on the order. waited another 20 minutes while they got it ready. I would have given them a 4 star if the order had gone like it should have. There are lots of Indian food in the area that is just as good and has their stuff together.

By far the best South Indian buffet with kerela food you dont get at many restaurants. There is so much variety in vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. Starts from beetroot pickle, ginger pickle, cocunut chutney, plaintain bhaji, vada ,Appam,Puri ,idli ,chole, veg curry ,papad, pakodas, green beans curry .Its not the usual restaurant where the menu ends with spinach n paneer curry and gulab jamun. They also have complimentary lassi, butter milk, mango lassi and coffee. A must try

Visited Mayura during our LA trip with friends. The food is really good and was extremely satisfied by the service. Friendly atmosphere with more options to select south Indian foods. Chicken 65, kerala style beef fry, Parota, Fish curry and other items we tried all are very good. The staff who served our table was very friendly and suggested us the various options available out there. Highly recommended for all versatile food lovers and south Indians!
