Upon arrival, you are given a newspaper with Glendale news from a many years ago. Mine was a 1967 front page newspaper, inside which guests will find the menu. I really enjoyed this feel, made you feel almost like you are at your own kitchen table. Older interior but kept clean, very nice homey feel-very welcoming atmosphere. Servers are all smiles and very kind, mostly women, at least in the morning when I visited. Play oldies music in background, easy listening. Average plate price looked to be in the 7.50 to 10.00 range. Has full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Meal came out within 5 minutes. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros Benedict for 10.49 (yes more expensive than most but sounded so good). Potatoes not as crisp as I normally like but tasted fresh which is most important. The fruit was fresh, crisp, and cool. The eggs Benedict were good, just slightly, again, not as crispy as I would prefer on the English muffin. The meal I selected had green chillies, pulled pork, and of course a poached egg. I never had this before and would probably order a bacon or sausage Benedict instead next time, simply because that is what I am used to for breakfast taste. Overall, however, a tasty meal with a drink that stayed filled. I would certainly come here again; the lunch menu looks very appealing to me with fresh sandwiches and salads. The menu has a "little less" section for seniors or people that dont swallow as much food as the average joe. Those prices are in the 6.00-7.50 range. They also have a conference room for guests with large parties. I saw some family or company meeting at 8:30am on a Thursday! I was surprised, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Again, overall a very good experience. I am very glad it was clean and welcoming.

We visited Black Bear Diner based on recommendations from a friend, and a buy one get one free dinner deal. After reviewing the small selection of food offered at outrageously high prices we finally decided on something. We placed our order and the waitress promptly took back the flimsy printed paper menus like they were the last ones in the place. Our salads arrived wilted and browning, tomatoes squishy. They were obviously made a few days before hand. The dinner portions were very small for the prices charged. Luckily my sons will eat anything, but even this food was hard for them to stomach. My $15 chicken fried steak was fresh fried from frozen, the only saving grace being it was smothered in gravy. But it was still like eating the sole of a shoe wrapped in sandpaper. I couldnt eat more than a few bites. My wife only took one bite of her $13 chicken wrap or roll, whatever it was. The sides were made from frozen and disgusting as well. Our waitress, along with many of the employees, was noticeably unhappy. We stifled a laugh when asked if we needed boxes for our food. Nothing we ate was enjoyable and left us actually feeling sick later on. Even with a buy one gets one free deal it was not worth it and complaining to management about it was not worth my time as we were never coming back again anyway. Did I mention the red ants crawling on our table while we were eating?

What a great place! Only wish they had places in New Jersey where I live. Good, hearty, healthy, quality food at a reasonable price. Love the pecan-crusted trout. Love the sauteed veggies. They did well with all the soups we tried. My wife found the half-sandwich with a bowl of soup just right for her. Love the sauteed veggies. I said that? OK, it bears repeating. (No pun intended.) Two stories: I was in Phoenix to visit my son. We looked for a place to eat and he said, "Ive heard good things about Black Bear Diner. Ive been meaning to try it." So we did. We wound up eating there three times in our six-day visit. My wife wanted to go there for soup-and-sandwich, and wondered what the soup was. I called and found out it was chicken noodle. My wife was disappointed, but we thought wed go anyway. Two minutes later, my phone rings. Its Julia from Black Bear Diner. She double-checked, and it was really split pea with ham -- a favorite of ours. She had checked the caller ID, and called me back to correct the error. Service above and beyond the call.

So the waitstaff is always friendly and nice and the food is normally pretty good and the portions are huge. My issue is we live near the black bear diner on 61st and bell road and frequent it probably at least once a month for some reason they just arent as up to par as they normally were the quality is going down. Fridays are all you can eat fish fry this Friday the fish didnt even resemble fish, over greasy and the breading was gross then we ordered mini pies to take home and the have completely changed their pies I imagine to cut costs but when you expect bananas and a pie crust in your banana cream pie and all you get is graham crackers, banana pudding and a ton of cheap whipped cream you feel a little cheated, they actually used to have a pie crust and bananas like a real pie guess thats no more. Disappointed diners we may go back but e wont be ordering dessert or the fish

The service was outstanding. The host, Steve (?), was very friendly and professional. He asked if we had been there before and then explained the type of food on the menu (which was styled like a newspaper - super cool). All day breakfast is a favorite of mine and the prices were reasonable. Despite it being Superbowl Sunday, the service was fast and reliable. Our server, Mia, was super friendly and absolutely wonderful. She gave us plenty of time to decide without giving us too much time. The food arrived in a very timely manner and it was absolutely delicious. And, there was plenty of it! The tri tip dip sandwich was fantastic and the fries that come with it are amazing. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area or anyone who lives in the area and is looking for a good place to eat out. 400/10 would eat here regularly.

Im never the kind of person to just hand out 5 stars because I take the time to post. Especially when a place doesnt deserve it but if I could give Black Bear Diner 6 stars I would. Ive never been more impressed by a breakfast diner. The staff is amazing! Super friendly and very attentive without being overwhelming. The portions are HUGE. Its a little pricy but well worth it for what you get. Nothing tastes processed. Even the homemade sausage patties are hand packed and cooked perfectly. The orange juice is about as fresh as biting into a slice of freshly peeled oranges. The atmosphere reminds me of some of the great diners Ive been to during my time stationed in Alaska. I didnt try the desserts but they look amazing! I WILL be back and I highly recommend this place!!!

We waited 25 minutes for a table so thought this must really be a good place for breakfast. After ordering, we waited another 25 minutes for food (explains why we had the initial wait). I had eggs over medium, corned beef hash, ribbon hash browns, and rye toast. My wife had the same with sausage rather than corned beef hash. Eggs were not done, whites were clear in parts. Hash browns were completely unseasoned, very bland. Same with the corned beef hash. Nearly tasteless. Loaded up on salt and pepper just to give the food some kind of taste. My wifes sausage on the other hand was extremely spicy even though she ordered the mild sausage. Oh, and my rye toast was wheat. All in all over priced, not worth the wait, and very much below average. A huge disappointment.
