Im a engineer at heart, and I like being presented with constraints, as it causes you to rely on creative solutions to negate those constraints. For example, how would you take the equipment of a hollowed-out Quiznos and make it into a full service restaurant? In the case of Wishbone Cafe, their answer was surprisingly creative, though not without some shortcuts. Im sure the sandwiches are all well and good (and in the case of the free sample of collard green soup we were provided, definitely good), but we came for dinner, and we wanted something more substantial. I went for the Louis Armstrong, and the other two people with me each ordered something different. The dish shouldnt really work - shrimp, scallops, cream sauce, and feta cheese? - but I was impressed, most especially at the freshness of the seafood, though my scallops were itsie-bitsie, each about the size of an M&M. Served over Cajun rice, it was unexpectedly good. Working in a kitchen like this has its drawbacks, such as having to send each dish through the Quiznos oven, sometimes multiple times. Ingredients are frequently reused, too, most obviously in the cream sauce, which managed to find its way onto all three of our dishes. A lot of the dinner entrees seem to follow the same shrimp-cream-starch template, though if you arent necessarily looking for a lot of variety (or just like the sauce), its not really an issue. The meal ended with a bowl of nana pudding, though Wishbones version differed from most in not really being a pudding at all. Instead, it was banana slices and Nilla wafers tossed in a thick, fresh whipped cream that was lighter than its traditional counterpart and made it more about the banana. Certainly something to try. Wishbone Cafes slight Cajun bent and ingenuity make for some interesting eating in a small space, and reminds us that there are good eats to be found all over this city.

Flavorful food, friendly staff & interesting ambiance. (There were paintings for sale apparently by one of the employees, but at those prices theyll stay as decor!) Onto the important part - they offered us samples of their pineapple tea & collard green soup as soon as we walked in! Both were good, but the soup was so tasty I unwisely ordered some to go - more on that later. Had the stuffed chicken breast with Cajun rice & gravy. The chicken was perfectly cooked & seasoned but the cream sauce made it legendary. The rice was almost as good - although it was a bit mushy from overcooking, the flavor made it forgivable. I could eat the charred broccoli as its own food group. But the reason Im deducting a star is their soup containers! Mine spilled all over on the ride home, & this was when driving carefully. The crazy thing is their large soup containers are perfect - they are those plastic quart sized cylinders that most Chinese takeout soup comes in...You know, with the lid that requires the grip strength of an orangutan to remove. The pint size used for sweet & sour sauce wouldve been perfect for my small soup, but instead they use styrofoam coleslaw cups with the flimsy lid that flies off when a breeze blows. Just thinking about wasting any of that glorious soup hurts my feelings...

We came here right after Christmas, so its been about 2 months since we came here. Honestly, I dont remember what me or my husband ordered. I know was it was one of their infamous seafood dishes. The one thing that I vividly remember is that my fellow Yelpers came through correct on the reviews because the food was OFF DA CHAIN!!! On top of that all of the staff was extremely personable and friendly and the prices were more than reasonable. Im glad we decided to stop in grab a bite. Weve already added this to our list of places to visit next time were in Montgomery!

This place is unassuming but will blow you away! I was visiting on a business trip from Atlanta and one of my colleagues (who happens to OWN a restaurant) highly recommended Wishbone Cafe for a "quick lunch." OMG I could have ate everything on the menu! I had the Louie Armstrong and wanted to lick the plate! The service has a diner feel but with 5 star attentiveness. I was thoroughly impressed. My only regret is that I was only in town for a day and couldnt take advantage of another meal!

Having worked in both the retail and the restaurant industry, service is a big deal to me and these days it is hard to find! Wishbone has it. Every time I have visited, I have been happily surprised but the service, while not always fast, they are always attentive. These people have worked very hard and as a result have built a successful business. Food is great, people are better! Give Wishbone a shot, I dont think you will regret it!

Pretty good food. The service was pretty quick, and they gave a free sample of the soup of the day. Im not an expert on Cajun food by any means, but in my opinion, the food here is good. The price range is from $5 for soup to around $15 for the more expensive entrees. Most of the meals looked to be in the area of $12. Id say they give you your moneys worth of food. Also, they will sell you soup by the pint if you ask.

Stopped here on a long road trip, wasnt too far off the highway. Food was really good, had a shrimp poboy, Cajun crab stuffed mushrooms, and fruit infused tea. I love that they bring out samples of gumbo and tea. However, would like them to ask if you have dietary restrictions as the gumbo had chicken and we dont eat that. Also, not a very pescatatian/vegetarian friendly place.

While unassuming, this is one of the best spots in Central Alabama, period. They know how to treat customers right, having a sample of the wonderful tea and equally wonderful gumbo before you even sit down. My wife and I had the chicken pasta and crawfish Julie and were both blown away by both portion size and the quality of food.

From the time we enter the establishment the staff was struggling with time management. As I am writing this. We have been waiting 45 minutes for our order and continue to drink our Iced tea. Patrons came in 25 minutes after us and are now eating. We are about to walk out and go eat Subway. Not sure what the issue is.....

Absolutely love this place! The food is fantastic and somewhat addictive. The Bayou Classic, The Louis Armstrong, The Collard Green Soup, The Peach Iced Tea and etc. Everything is delicious and I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who desires a lighter fair---nothing is fried. Stop by and enjoy the experience.

Wish we had found this place sooner! The food was such a nice change from typical area eats and a great value. Everything, from the kids meals to our entrees, was delicious and beautiful. You can tell the chefs take great care and pride in their food. We will be back SOON! Dont miss this gem in East Montgomery!

So good!!!! Traveling with my family, first time in AL- such great cuisine and warm service! Samples of sweet tea & collard green soup greet you - and those were amazing so you know whatever you order will be amazing. We had the Cuban sand which and Cajun kabobs and finished with banana pudding.
