My parents built their retirement home on Barren River in mid 1970s. During this time as a young adult with a family we enjoyed the dinner buffet at Barrens lodge quite frequently. My father found a hobby of making quilt stands, bird houses, wind chimes of fishing string as well as wire wall art of ships from pieces of drift wood found when the waters was lowered in the fall. These were sold at the Barren State Park Lodge as well as several bait houses in the area. My children loved the view of fireworks each 4th of July from the bank of the main lodge in my parents pontoon as well as watching the deer in late evenings gather on "deer island", whiich is a large area in the middle of the main lake where dozens of deer, all ages shapes and sizes, swim to and hide in the tree area every evening. Although I personnaly never camped there, my brother and his friends loved the Baileys Point campground area where they socialized and put their boats in the lake. I highly recommend Barren to any individual or family. Children have plenty of space to entertain themselves in addition to the planned activities of the staff. As an adult I frequently enjoy a brief weekend of peace and stress release in the hotel area. Barren is definitely one of the better self managed vacation spots for anyone in the KY area. It is also a short driving distance from Nashville, Louisville and Lexington if anyone in the group wishes shopping or a more social form of entertainment for the day.

As a recent housekeeper who quit that job, I can say that they dont have very many people to clean. Sometimes the guests will have to wait hours for their rooms or cottages to get done. The top sheets on the bed are never changed unless there is a spot that would be too visible to people. There is never a laundry person so you arent assured to get as many towels back that you need because they never have them washed up. I personally from working there will never stay there. Also all the benches and things of wood are infested with wood bees. The concrete on the hotel part is falling off the bars are showing underneath. Any really bad wind and I would be very cautious of where you walk. When it rains the main walkways for the hotel are filled with water. No elevators. Pets are allowed in every room. The cottages and villas are extremely expensive unless you have the money for that. But once again the tops of the beds are not changed, just reused. Per training, if a pillow is on the floor or "seems" to be not used we dont have to change it. If towels etc arent seemed to be used, they dont change it. Its a beautiful location but they really need to make it more habitable place to stay. I also suggest anyone wanting to work there, dont, unless you like working in that kind of management and conditions.

We stayed three days in a motorhome. They do have around nine sites that had full hookup. Sites were not very level as they are quite crowned, but we were able to get our motor home level. Make sure you have plenty of house for water and sewer as the hookups were a long way away from the pad. I used around 20 ft of sewer hose and close to 75 feet off water hose. They did have a dump station. The weekend we stayed was very busy, with almost all sites filled. The park is clean and well maintained. Camp host came over and helped us find our place and made sure we got set up okay. We came in after dark so that is always harder. The park had a nice Beach, golf course, and hotel with a restaurant. Bring a bike as the hike to these places was 15 or 20 mins. We did go down to the marina but didnt use the facilities down there. Rates were very reasonable. We did eat at the restaurant one night and the food was just average at best. They had a buffet but you could order from a menu if you wanted. Overall a good experience.

Beautiful park! Stayed for one week in a cottage while attending family reunion. Cottages were nice, but had to rid it of a few insects inside when we arrived. Staff is exceptionally friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay great. Catered food was delicious and restaurant food was likewise good. Lots of wildlife to view especially at dusk and nighttime. Horse riding was well worth it and the staff working there went above and beyond with our children to make their ride great. Pool was nice on the humid days and although I didnt visit it, the beach was a welcome addition. The hiking/biking trail was also enjoyable, but be ready for a couple hills. Thanks to everyone at BRLSRP for a great stay!

On the shores of Barron River Lake near Glasgow, KY this picturesque park is an awesome place to stay if youre the type of person that likes the outdoors! From boat rentals at the marina and horseback riding at the stable to golf, softball, tennis, volleyball, basketball and walking trails, the park is packed with family friendly activities. The lodge; great food in the restaurant and a couple private rooms that are well suited for larger groups, there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 rooms, most with 2 queen beds. There are also cabin rentals available for groups up to 8 members per cabin. I wholeheartedly recommend this park.

We stayed in the villas and were very pleased with the quality of lodging. The restaurant is decent but plain. Honestly one of the best vacation spots Ive been to. This isnt the kind of place for swanky digs. This is a family friendly outdoor life park. Dont expect mimosas by the beach or candle dining. Do expect a great time on the water or trails or horseback. Ive been told the golf course is great, but I dont golf. Also available are three playgrounds, marina with boat rentals, tennis courts, good sized camping sites and a hotel. I recommend this park for every family vacation. Fair pricing was my main motivator.

Camped overnight in a travel trailer. Sites are too close together and the whole layout is not odd. There are a lot of pull-thru sites, but the electricity and water might be on the wrong side of the camper. Not a real big deal but the electric box was by the street and it was a 90 foot (length) site (15 width) and I pulled to the most level part of the site. Unfortunately since my cord and the box were on opposite sides the 25 cord wasnt long enough and I havent purchased a $50 extension cord yet. Daughter said the bathrooms were clean (I didnt use them) scenery outside of the campground was beautiful.

Great place to stay and play and relax. We have been coming here for years and staying in the cabins or villas. They are great for families. This is the first time we stayed in campground. Only sites 1-9 are full hook-up with 50amp. The rest are water/electric only with 30 amp. If you can, contact Kimberly the campground manager to reserve because Reserve American SUCKS!!! It is an older campground but everything is well maintained. Be prepared for hills. Good idea to have plenty of blocks to level and long water hoses and extension cords as it is a way to some. Look forward to staying here again.
