Social Bar & Grill comes off as a really nice, chill place in a sea of Broadway and off-Broadway theaters, heart-attack inducing fast food restaurant chains, bright lights and way too many shady tour bus companies. I was here for a friends going away party and one of the event organizers had been deliberating between Social Bar & Grill and Latitude. I was really happy they chose this place for being faster to accommodate us when he inquired about making reservations. The music here was great, pretty diverse and possibly off a set play-list or juke box - the volume was also great to dance to, but fine to have a conversation over. I brought along my coworker for the ride and he enjoyed his Glenlivet served neat and I enjoyed my orange Ketel One with tonic. A lot of these folks work in media and I met some sales reps that from a professional standpoint were not people I could do business with (now get me in a technology people party and watch my fling my business cards everywhere!), but they certainly did not mind buying yours truly tons of drinks and shots and expensing them on their corporate cards. Momma likes =). When able to choose a shot and money is no object I usually like something sweet (think baby guinesses, blowjobs, Tic Tac shots or Irish carbombs) or something potent (straight up & chilled vodka, tequila...anything but Jäger, ick!) - as of late my FAVORITE thing to take shots of is Patrón XO Café Tequila (often affectionately referred to as "Black Patron") which encompasses both my cravings for sweet AND potent. I had about 4 this night. This event easily had 20-25+ guests and you know...the whole being human thing, people get hungry when getting hammered so out came the social party platters! Social Bar & Grill had a pretty impressive menu that included standard American bar fare and loads of comfort foods with a slightly Southern flair as far as spiced and preparation goes. The "social party platters" were well stocked appetizers served on silver platters, literally. At $15 dollars a pop these platters were a BARGAIN! Each platter consisted of Six Buffalo Hot Wings, Four Mozzarella Sticks, Three Sliders w/ Cheese and marinera, ranch, honey mustard and blue cheese dipping sauces. I LIVE for condiments and dipping sauces so for me I might as well have been in heaven. My only gripe is that this was a Wednesday night and I had work the following morning so I couldnt stay and enjoy more free drinks & free food. This bars tagline on their website is, "Enter as strangers, leave as friends"...well this bar does have a lot of friendly, (ie. non-skeevy douchey folks...at least on this particular night) patrons so that was also a plus. In conclusion, food prices were super reasonable - everything was delicious, fresh and not super oily or greasy. I would totally come back here with friends for some casual drinking and dining.

I am staying across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn, so decided to check this place out on the way back from a show on Broadway. Walked in and sat down at a table, the girl serving tables made eye contact with us several times, but went about her business and eventually I went up to the bar to order drinks, I was served right away. We left after that drink. Next night we decided to grab a quick dinner, against our best judgement here, but decided to try it out again. We were sat right away, but our waitress was useless! She obviously does not care about her job. She brought us our drinks and walked away without taking our food order. Had to grab her to take our order, which she almost walked away in the middle of of me talking. Food was dropped off by a bus boy, we requested condiments which were never delivered. The pretzels and beer cheese dip was gross. The pretzels tasted burnt and the cheese dip had a very odd lumpy texture. Our waitress never came to check on us. I had to grab her and complain twice about the pretzel appetizer for her to even acknowledge whether we were satisfied or not. Then we had the pleasure of staring at the back of her head for about five to ten minutes while she stocked a drink caddy instead of getting us our bill to turn over our table for the people waiting. NEXT she wiped down our table while we were sitting at it getting ourselves together to leave. I have worked in food service for about a decade and am appalled at the service from this bar. Both nights. I hope the manager has some semblance of common sense to create repeat customers and get rid of his useless employees. I will not be returning and will be sure to let people know if theyre staying in midtown to avoid this bar.

NEW YORK (AP/ 1010 WISN) -- A stranger followed a woman into a Manhattan bar restroom after she rejected his advances early Thursday, savagely beat her in a toilet stall and perhaps even sexually assaulted her, police said. The attack occurred around 2 a.m. at Social, a three-story bar and lounge on Eighth Avenue in midtown Manhattan where the victim, a pediatric nurse, had gone with a friend, authorities said. The woman told police that she had rebuffed attempts by an unidentified man to dance with her, said police spokesman Paul Browne. When she went to the womens restroom on the second floor, he followed her and burst into a stall. The man beat the victim until she was unconscious. Her friend later found in her in the stall and called 911, believing she might have fallen. The woman was hospitalized with a broken eye socket, broken jaw and other injuries. When she regained consciousness, she told hospital workers she had been attacked. Browne said investigators think she might also have been sexually assaulted. Police were gathering security videotape and interviewing bar employees to try to identify the assailant. There was no immediate response to a phone message left at the bar.

THIS IS THE WORSE BAR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I came in and sat down at one of the stools....WAITING.....WAITING....WAITING.....WAITING... (the two bartenders, were busy MAKING OUT with each other) FINALLY, one bartender came over, a platinum blonde woman, she asked what I wanted. I said "Glad one of you are working tonight, Ill have an Amsel Light" After that she refused to serve me. I asked to speak with the manger, but he was "out" supposedly. I DONT RESPECT PLACES THAT DONT RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I just came in to have a beer. The bartenders COMPLETELY IGNORED ME because they were too busy MAKING OUT WITH EACH OTHER. Then they dont even respect me enough to give me a drink. The bartenders have absolutely NO RESPECT FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMER WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We came here for Happy Hour on a Thursday. Joined by 4-5 girls-- we really liked their Cotton Candy Cosmopolitan and the Pomegranate Lemon Drop Martini. Somehow made it upstairs to their 2nd Floor. There was pretty big windows that looked out at the street. It was fun to people watch from the bar and tables to everyone across the street. The bartender was really nice and actually really funny. The food menu wasnt bad. We split a Thai Chicken on Pita Bread it was really good and not too filling but perfect to line the stomach for a long night of drinking. Overall a 5- star, great customer service, good food, and fun music. Would absolutely come again.
