Ive never written a review before, but I feel compelled to now. Do not go to this restaurant. The service is so bad that I felt abused and totally out of control. My husband and I used to eat at Panna II when we lived in NYC (5 years ago). He liked the lights and the cheap food. The service was always fine. We went back last weekend and this older man is now the host. He gets mad at you if you come in the restaurant to ask for a table. He wants you to wait outside. He literally pushes people outside and closes the door on their backs. We went with my 2 year old and he was sitting in a chair. At one point, my son sat in my husbands lap for a few minutes and I had to almost go to battle with the host AND a server about keeping the chair at the table. They didnt want the chair to sit there empty at all, even though no one needed it at the moment. He kicked out party of 9 that was waiting for one last person to arrive. He didnt want them to order without her, but he didnt want to wait. We were sitting by the door that was constantly open and it was cold. I wanted to ask for a table in the back, but I was literally afraid of what would happen if I asked. He watched and listened to us from behind the waiter as we ordered our food. When it was time to leave the tip, he stood next to me and stared at my hands as I looked in my purse. I ended up leaving a ridiculously low tip because I was so upset ($2 on $23). As soon as I put it down, the host picked it up and started yelling at me. I told him the service was terrible as he pushed me out the door (literally, this is not an exaggeration). As we were walking down the block, he came out of the restaurant and yelled down the street. AND... the food is not good. They dont have real nan, they toast gyro pita with some oil. Dont do it!

::PLEASE READ THE REVIEWS FIRST!!:: My friends and I made the mistake of not reading reviews before coming here. We had made a reservation for 12 people for a bachelor/ette party, because the aesthetic was perfect. We come walking up to the restaurant and apparently there is another Indian restaurant next door, because ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MAID IF HONOR IS BEING YELLED AT AND DRAGGED INTO THE BASEMENT BY SOME MAN. We had a reservation at Panna II so we eventually get our party into the restaurant and this place is TINY. A waiter grabbed my arm and dragged me to the back of the restaurant and we were all forced to stand in the aisle, sandwiched between tables as the staff is pushing us out of their way and banging pots to get us to move. Basically treating us like cattle. Well there was no where to go, so a few of us try to sit and they come up shouting that its not our table. They cram us at a table right by the front door eventually and the rude af waiter tells us we HAVE to get a prefix menu for $25 a person, which was never mentioned. Then he dissapeared for about 15 minutes. We asked other staff to get him, because we did not want to do the prefix. He finally comes back and he insists that we were given the option to order individually off the menu. I told him, that he was lying, because he specifically said that due to the size of our group that we could ONLY do the prefix. He just laughed and LITERALLY threw menus at us. At that point we got up to leave and the waiters start screaming for us to stay. But we also heard another table ask why we were leaving and the waiter said VERBATIM, that "we were the WORST!" I guess we were WAY out of line to ask to be treated like human beings. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND MONEY! THIS PLACE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went with two friends to get dinner one night. I expected a wait--but instead I got the most annoying restaurant experience of my life. We ignored the restraunters to the left and below, as per instructions, and then waited on the steps for Panna to get us a table. While we waited, a group was literally pushed out the doors. One of them had sauce spilled on his white sweater by the waiter who was forcibly pushing them out to clear the way for the next table. No apology. No help. Nothing. They had a clear table, didnt seat us, and then, ten minutes later, said they had a table. Instead they walked the three of us to the back of the absurdly small restaurant and made us wait by the kitchen while waiters zoomed in and out with ridiculously hot plates that came too close to our faces. Waiting there, we saw them seat another table while we were still standing in the back, though we had been promised a spot. We decided to leave and one of the waiters followed us out, even tugging on my jacket to try and get us to stay. Ridiculous. The place below Panna II has great food, more space, and friendly help. We had a great experience there. I recommend bypassing Panna II and checking out the place downstairs. (Dont go to the place on the left either. While we were waiting outside, the host asked a group to come eat at his place. When they said they had other plans, he reached out to the balloon string, popped one in his bare hand, and smiled, strained, then told them to have a good night. It was both creepy and crazy.)

Ive been eating at Panna II for at least twenty years. When I was in college I was a regular and didnt even have to order. As soon as I opened the door, one of the gentleman upfront would show me to a table, pour me some of their always ice cold water and put down the "on the house" condiments. Life doesnt allow me to visit Panna as much as I used to, but when I do there is always one waiter, or bus person, who says "hey where have you been?". Its my version of Cheers. The decor is by far the best thing about Panna. It looks as though someone raided a 99 cents store and through the decorations up like a wild man. Caution: If youre tall you might get a Christmas ball or a hot pepper in your face. As for the food, i can say that its the best Indian that Ive ever tasted, but it is good enough. The samosa is good as anywhere Ive ever tried. Personally i recommend vegetable. The free mango ice cream at the end is nice touch. If you have a visitor from out of town or you need to go out with someone who you share little in common with this whole place is an icebreaker.

Warning: Stay away from this restaurant!!!!! We came here because a friend told us this was such as cool place well The only good thing about this place is their tons of lights hanging from the ceiling but the staff and everything else is awful. The place is like 500 degrees due to the many lights and the lack of ventilation, so get ready to sweat like a pig. Im pretty sure they dont follow any regulations and this is an unsafe restaurant, there are no emergency exits at all. Then you also got another problem, the tables are so close to each other that you literary sit on top of someone else. The guy sitting next to us didnt understand that and pushed and called my brother-in-law names because he was angry he didnt have enough space for his chair. On top of that the waiters run from the kitchen to the many tables holding the plates on top of them as there is not enough room for anything at all and you have to deal with their stinky armpits every time they pass by you. The food is good but its just too much craziness to handle. Make yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
