Joe is not the kind of place you go if you want to hunker down and stay for many hours, writing or working away on a laptop. Its just too small for that. Even the tables are very tiny. Poets with their moleskines might be able to snuggle into the corner and pour out short lines about the bleakness of life, but everyone else will just be enjoying a coffee and maybe chatting with a friend. Nothing wrong with that. Im the type of person who likes to pick a place and hang instead of dip in and out for coffee, so most of Joes charms are lost on me. However, I did enjoy their excellent coffee and find the vibe very pleasant. There is wifi from somewhere, but Joe does not encourage you to sit down and connect.

Joe is usually one of my favorite places in New York to get a cappuccino and relax. This particular space is conveniently located in the Upper West side. Teas and coffees are of high quality, and the atmosphere is relaxed. A great place to stop by to chat with friends. However, there is no wireless available, and the bathroom is tiny. It is not too bad for work if you do not need internet, and I feel that the music selection was quite good. It does not feel as cramped as the Waverly location, but seating is limited.

So happy that Columbia brought this place onto campus. It is a great space and has great coffee. There is definitely a hipster vibe from all the servers (lots of fedoras and vests), but all the patrons are students and professors. The space is big and feels nice. The only downside is that it is packed. When you are in a rush, they have a quick-coffee cart right at the stairs, which is excellent because there is usually a line at the main counter.

What is not to love here ? Staff is so friendly despite having a constant flow of customers in high need of cafeine :) Coffee is excellent. Definitely. Yes it is small and there is no bathroom - but I dont think they have a choice given layout. Be patient to score a table but dont bet on it ! And yes - no wifi - which is GREAT to create customers-to-customers interaction in this digital age ...

Good, expensive, inconsistent. The coffee here can be as good as youll find at a high-end italian cafe - and it takes 4 times as long to get it. They can charge a lot for their delicious brews, but with the staff rotating between locations, you may not always get your moneys worth. Some of their barristas are far superior at their craft than others, but the high prices stay the same.

Place was really great service wise and most of the coffee drinks are good, but the pour over was a little weak to me. I ve had pour over coffee that was much better than this in a few other cafes, only thing wrong I thought was maybe not enough coffee when they were making it? But the preparation was fine along with excellent service. All the other drinks were spectacular.

Walking into this coffee shop--had the most yummy smell of coffee and caramel! I was pleased to see that they had Cortados on the menu, because those are hard to find-- it was made perfectly! Sat around with 4 friends and it was very casual, no pressure to leave! It did pick up and get crowded with parents and their toddlers at the end of our drinks.

I came in here to try the coffee since I saw it on a list of top cafes in NYC. The coffee here packs a flavorful punch and you can taste the quality ingredients. While the prices are a bit on the high side, its not bad for a one-in-a-while treat. The spot itself is small, tends to fill up fast. Ill be back to try it again, and maybe a pastry as well.

Love Joes coffee !! The success of this place has brought this wave of non-franchise coffee shops that focus on brewing high quality, fair trade coffee, and passionate baristas in NYC over the past few years. Ive also attended a couple classes at other locations and they are fun. Be sure to register early because they always seem to fill up quickly.

The coffee is supposedly amazing but I dont drink coffee. What I will say is that they have loose-leaf chamomile tea, which is delicious, nice people, and AMAZING baked goods. Seriously I think I subsisted off of their baked goods for like two years. Definitely get any of them, but especially the rugeleh. Jew approved.

Great coffee. Its basically a coffee place, so while I dont love that, when its busy, its basically impossible to go in with a child and exit with a coffee, I dont think thats a fair critique. If Im going unencumbered or on off hours, its the first place Id choose for coffee in the neighborhood.

Very good coffee and friendly (albeit a little slow) service. I understand no wifi to keep people from hunkering down for four hours at a time - (maybe try no wifi on weekends?) ... But no public bathrooms give me a bit of a "get outta my cafe" vibe, especially with... you know... coffee

The best coffee Ive had on the UWS. I love a cortado and they execute them perfectly. The coffee theyre producing in this place is excellent. The only problem is the baristas who give off a snobby vibe which, unfortunately, seems standard for NYC coffee shops.

Great espresso (served with sparkling water - yeah!), Indulgent pastries (the coconut cream donut is fab - and apparently has fewer calories than an almond croissant), very friendly service and sun-missed benches (at 8am anyway) outside.

Good atmosphere. Coffee is ok but Ive had better in other deducted coffee shops. It might be the best in this area but we will find out in the next few days once we have tried out the other coffee places.. A good starting place..

The best coffee on the planet. Seriously, Ive downed a cup everywhere, so I know. (Wink.) Even smells fantastic walking by. Not that I often walk by, I usually stop to have a cup of the best coffee on the planet.

Great coffee. They use a good almond milk, too. I went from hating almond milk lattes to enjoying them quite a lot. Went in about five times during my week in the upper west side. Will definitely be back.

Joe, along with a small group of new independent coffee houses, is redefining the cup of coffee with an emphasis on quality and expert preparation. The baristas at this location are top notch.

I love the coffee bere!! Especially on Monday morning, if you need a really good cup of coffee, this place is really highly recommend it. Plus, I just love the design and color of the paper cup.

I love Joes coffee soooo much. While many Joe locations are light on seating, this spot is to the extreme. Dont expect to be able to linger over your delicious cappuccino here.

Great small coffee shop, best on UWS. Knowledgeable baristas, thus solid lattes and specialty drinks, as well as great house blend. Inside small but cozy and well appointed.

I would normally scoff at paying $5 for a latte, but dare I say the coffee at Joe is worth it. I can only go once in a great while, but it is always a treat.
