My husband and I have used the open canvas painting at Arte as a good date night and those other times I would have rated them 4 or 5 stars. We have also used it as rewards for our children. Their bar is off to the side and can easily be missed by children so I dont feel as if I am bringing my children to a bar to paint. Their child policy clearly states (I cut and paste): Child Policy - Open Canvas Children of all ages are welcome to come and paint in our Open Canvas area Tues - Thur 5pm - 10pm, Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 12pm - 6pm. Friday and Saturday after 5pm - minimum age 16. 16-18 year olds must be accompanied by a parent. Based on this information, I dropped off my preteen with 3 of my other children (4 all together) while I drove my teenager to an appointment. Before I left, I made sure that the children were situated and mentioned to the server/artist that I was leaving and would be right back. Immediately when I left, a different server (manager?) asked my kids when I was going to return and proceeded to talk to them in a condescending way. While I was gone, the children painted and kept to themselves, not causing a raucous or calling attention to themselves in any way. I was back within 45 minutes, due to traffic and parking. When I got there, they were sitting quietly and painting. Julie (the manager? server?) came and told me in a very snooty way that they are a bar first and painting second and therefore I was not allowed to leave my children there. I apologized and explained that I didnt see that on the website and it was a mistake; thanks for letting me know for the future. She was obnoxious to us the rest of the evening. When I went to pay, she tacked on a gratuity tax of 18%, which is their policy for groups of 6. We were a group of 5 so I asked her why that was added. She said it was because I was there and helped my children. I reminded her that I did not paint and that I helped my children since no one else did. Then she said, and we watched your kids for an hour. Fine, Ill eat that cost but when I came home to recheck the website, I did NOT find anywhere that says that kids can not be there on their own. I bet if I had a group of 15 year olds there, it would not have been a problem. In addition, if they are a bar first, and paint second, then any unaccompanied minor under 21 would pose a problem. I still like the ambience there and will visit with my husband and my children. I also would like people to know, though, that they arent as child-friendly as their website suggests.

My wife and I visited for the first time on a Friday night and were extremely surprised. We really enjoyed the atmosphere even before entering. Outside they had live music, patio seating, dance area and drinks. Once you enter a host greats you and explains how the whole process works. Nancy was our host and she was awesome! We ordered drinks and began our paintings from a selection on the wall that comes with instructions. Nancy brought us our paints, canvas and drinks. We had a blast! If course my wifes painting of a coffee cup was extremely better than my feather painting. All in all four sixty dollars or so it was a great date with my wife. I do want a redo of my painting so we will visit again

We had so much fun with a girls night out (mother, married daughter, and visiting 12 yr old granddaughter)! Beautiful summer weather meant we could paint outside on the patio. The staff was very helpful with painting tips and assistance if needed; a large choice of paintings to reproduce using detailed directions, as well as a choice of canvas sizes. Vibrant paint colors, fun atmosphere. About 2 hours to complete our pictures, each a masterpiece, and time to talk and have refreshments if desired (no pressure to purchase food or drinks). Consider this fun event for a date, or date-night for married couples.

Really fun small space for a fun night out. The staff were absolutely great, friendly and knowledgeable. They helped you feel like an artist, with the help of a couple cocktails of course. I went as a girls night out, but I would love to drag my husband there for a nice date night, and of course compete to see who can make the prettiest painting.

VERY over-priced, I used to run workshops like this and I know the cost for what it should be per person... not what they are charging. We arrived a bit late just because we didnt plan it, just stumbled across it. Waitress that was serving us had an attitude all night. Loved the final project, wish the service would have meet the price

Slightly chilly inside, friendly staff. The class area feels a bit squished and I was glad my neighboring artist was my boyfriend. I regret that the teacher wasnt quite as knowledgeable as Id hoped about the painting she was teaching, ie how to adjust or modify it for students.

My first experience in this bar and art studio was very nice, they had a nice and colorful appearance inside and gave you very great hospitality and advice to your painting, I recommend coming to this place in Wauwatosa

A great date or night with friends if you enjoy trying new things. I took my wife here for a date, and even though we dont drink (or paint!) we had a blast painting together!

The instructor gave us step by step instructions on how to paint and the spirits were nice and strong with the background music made it seemed like you were an artist

Very very expensive for what it is. Canvas and paint is expensive, drinks are expensive, help and or instructions arent great, and the supplies are limited.

A bit on the pricey side, but the price is worth it for a fun date night. The staff is incredibly friendly and will help you with any art project.

Tons of fun, but soo expensive! Make sure you eat before you go. The few appetizers they do have taste like microwaved frozen dinners.

Was just there for a party, and had a great time! Marcus (our instructor) was fun and energetic, and handled our group of 16 like a pro.
