Years ago when we first moved to this area, I stumbled across the SOUTHERN KITCHEN and went in to eat. To my total surprise, this restaurant was indeed a "Southern Kitchen", just like your grandma and family had back home (Mississippi/Lousiana/Alabama). The food was great, especially the Catfish, the Country fried entres and especially the Pork Chops(some of the best Ive ever had), which you could get on the breakfast, lunch & dinner menu along with the hamhocks & greens, sausage with your breakfast and other dishes which all included pork products. We frequented this restaurant more times than I can count over the years and loved visiting with Lessie (owner) and her family. I have referred many people to this restaurant over the years. We went in this weekend and it looked the same but when I ordered the famous Pork Chops, I was informed that they had taken all pork products off the menu. When I asked why, the waiter responded that there were new owners and they did not eat pork products or allow them in the restaurant. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! HOW CAN YOU HAVE A SOUTHERN KITCHEN WITHOUT PORK?!!! They also have modified their menu and its deceptive. At the top of the breakfast menu it lists "breakfasts in this section include two eggs, any style, hash browns or grits, and toast" and then the other additions are listed below such as, ham, bacon, sausage, country fried steak, etc. and each additional item is priced accordingly. You assume that the prices for the add ons include the items mentioned above. NOT SO! We(two of us) ordered two breakfasts along with orange juice, milk, one coffee and Corncakes(which used to be "to die for", now mediocre at best). Our bill, with tax came to OVER $38.00!!! We will not be back or recommend this restaurant to anyone in the future. What a shame to destroy the image and reputation of what was a great restaurant! Lessie must be turning over in her grave.

Heard so much about this place. So I tried the fried catfish sandwich meal of some sort, the peach cobbler & Strawberry lemonade. The driest sandwich Ive ever had between two pieces of bread. Literally just laid two pieces of bread over the overfried catfish fillet and a pickle, tomato& lettuce to go with it...no mayo, sauce nothing..this was a TG order btw . The cobbler was a diabetic shock waiting to happen. It tasted like sugar with bits of peach and runny dough in it to sum it up..not impressed with either and the Lemonade was fairly tasty but I wouldnt rave about it. The place was tiny and crowded and idk dirty or it could of been due to being crowded. It has been awhile since I went so Im not sure if it has changed but I wont know because Ill never return. Overpaid for what I got probably would of faired better buying and making it myself. I look at it this way if you can make a sandwich taste like sawdust then what makes you think I want to try something else at the same place where it would take more effort to make?? Nahh Ill pass..Its for some and not others..I am the other..

I had a craving for fried catfish and some southern home cooking before I deploy, and it did satisfy it, but it could have been better. The corncake (i.e. pancake) and sweet tea were awesome. Greens were good, a bit tangy, but had absolutely no kick to them. I had to add pepper and jalapeno sauce which is incredible because I never do. Catfish was good but not sure where they get it. You could tell it had been frozen (it was a bit watery), large but thin cut, no bones, fat or skin, and he cooked it just right. Breading was good, evenly spread, but I had to add pepper and hot sauce to spice it up. Last time I used hot sauce was 5 years ago, if that gives you some idea of how rarely I use it. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good. I couldnt tell if they were real or instant, so could have been better. A bit pricy, which is why it was rated two $$, $21+ for the double filet, tea, and tax. Like I said and rated-good, but with a few changes, it could be great! Oh, and a lighted sign would have helped me find the place easier.

Dont go here if you are making a to go order unless you called it in. Staff is not competent enough to handle walk in to go orders. Ive been here 47 minutes exactly and my order is only NOW getting cooked. Which means I now have to wait for the chicken to fry (they said it would take another 20 minutes). . I should have walked away when I had to get my own menu and practically beg a waitress to take my order while just sitting there watching everyone continue to walk by. The strong faced lady(?) that took my order kept avoiding me and the other servers were actually the most helpful. I always tip above normal on to go orders since I waitressed in college before I graduated and got a real job but she(?) wont get a dime of my money nor will this restaraunt because if the piss poor customer service.. its a shame because the food is DELICIOUS but Id rather go somewhere that can grasp basic customer service principles

If you are going in to eat, its wonderful. But dont call for take out. The Hispanic lady who took my call put me on hold and forgot about me. I finally drove over there to place my order in person and the same lady first off didnt even acknowledge that she had left me on hold even though the phone was still sitting on the counter. Then when I asked for an apology, she said that she had just come in an hour ago and it wasnt her. Im sorry, I had called 30 minutes prior and I recognized her voice. Then when she was caught, she just offered up a fake, appeasing apology. The only reason I went through with my order is because I had told my husband about the great fried chicken I had for lunch and how Id bring him home some. I understand you get busy but by god, take ownership of your mistake and apologize. You are in customer service after all. That is pretty much rule #1.

The food was so disappointing. I ordered chicken and Mac and yams. The macaroni and cheese was ice cold so I let the waiter know. He brought me over another plate of burnt Mac and cheese and insisted that I scrape the old cold Mac off as though I was trying to get over. The yams was canned and also cold as well as tasteless. On our way out the older gentleman taking the cash asked how was everything? So I told him. He immediately changed his tone in his voice and said "You should have said something before its time to pay" I said I did say something and you asked me! He did take a drop off our ticket. I dont understand why a business thinksthat every customer is trying to get over! I will never go out to eat with my husband if we can not pay!!!! We go out expecting good food, good service and a good time!

I was disappointed. Im from the south and I know good southern cooking. The food was only fair, and a paltry amount was served for the price. An appetizer of about 16 sweet potato fries cost $6. Got a 6" piece of slightly warm catfish, a tiny bowl of fried okra, a tiny bowl of collard greens, and a single dry hush puppy for $12 (I would estimate $8 would have been a fair price). My dinner partner got about the same size servings for a BBQ brisket for $16. Add in two iced teas and the entire bill was $45, plus a $6 tip that I dont think we should have left. Service was very slow, and no one came by the table during the meal to ask if wanted anything else, like more tea or a dessert. I dont think well be going there again.
