This is the worst bar Ive been to in my life. On labour day weekend (Sunday night Sept 4, 2016) I brought my friends who were visiting from Alaska to try this bar. Im also new in the Wallingford area and always walked by it and wanted to try it also. Well, we got there at 1:15 am and all bought glasses of beer and went outside on the patio. At 1:40 one of the bartenders comes out and starts yelling at the patrons saying its time to go the patio is closing. Then, we go inside the bar and at 1:50 am the bartender starts walking up to everyone demanding that they give him back the drinks we bought and leave because the bar is closing!!!! OMG!! This was incredulous! Ive never seen anything like this in my life I thought I was in a dream. A bartender asking patrons for their drinks BACK and telling them to get the hell out of the bar? I heard one of the staff say "lets start cracking heads in this place!" to get people out of here. It was a nightmare and I was so embarrassed that I brought my friends there. I will NEVER go back to this place again even if you paid me to. Maybe Im too Canadian (i.e. polite) but where Im from you dont treat paying patrons like this. I say if you dont want to work odd hours get out of the hospitality industry, dont make your guest feel like crap cause they are out for some drinks on a long weekend. Horrible. Seriously.

This bar had a nice outdoor seating area, great ambiance and good music. I ordered the strawberry walnut salad which was pretty standard for $8. My issue was with the wooden board they served it on which was unstable and too small to actually keep the salad from falling off. I found it odd the waitstaff did not automatically provide a knife along with a fork to eat a salad (especially whilst doing a balancing act). As I was eating my salad off a wet board reminscent in texture of an oversized popsickle stick I also wondered how hygenic the board was to eat off of. I also thought it strange we werent served any water so I went up to the bar and asked for an ice water and was directed to the self serve water station - using single use plastic cups! I dont mind getting my own water at a bar (even warm water in summer, which this was) but common they could at least use actual glasses instead of creating so much unneccessary waste.

The person responsible for checking IDs the night my group visited was a shorter, blonde haired bearded gentleman. My husband gave him his ID at the door- hed just had it renewed and was waiting on the plastic copy. The bouncer had never seen a temporary license before and asked my husband how he had managed to print such an elaborate fake. He was eventually allowed in after my husband explained the situation. When it was my turn to enter, he was unbearably patronizing - he told me I looked "pretty faded" and asked me if I could "handle" another drink. I was astounded - I dont drink. What a moron. I requested my ID back and we took our business to Murphys instead.

Great atmosphere, great people, original and tasty food, good drink specials. Its pretty clear as soon as you walk in that a lot of hard work went into this place, and that everyone involved is really dedicated to providing a friendly and unique atmosphere. The more I spend time at restaurants and bars, the more obvious it becomes to me that its all about the people, and everyone at the Octopus recognizes that, and does everything they can to foster a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Patio seating is also a big plus with all of the nice weather weve had this spring (dont jinx it, I know!).

Went in with a friend for a drink in a Sunday night. The bar is dimly lit with warm glowing lights hanging from the ceiling. The space had sitting room in the Bar and outside. The bartender was very engaging, he gave us menues and offered quality suggestions. There is a certain unique vibe that the bar puts out. It has books on the ceiling, and fishing tackle by the door, the art on the wall gives you the impression you might run into a pirate. There is street parking available.

Fun place with great old hip hop music. Went with a couple friends on a Friday and it was decently busy, place is pretty tight making it hard to walk around through the bar. The atmosphere and the decor was a nice touch. Heard the person next to me say the food was better than he thought it would be, for what it is worth. Definitely coming back in the area looks like there are a couple fun bars around as well.

Pretty good food (a little pricey), great vibe, mostly good music, but occasionally way too loud inside. Outdoor area is really nice but the staff doesnt really enforce the no smoking policy, so if youre sensitive to cigarette smoke you might not want to be out there at night. Still one of my favorite places.

Aquatic themed dive bar with plenty of seating and quality drinks. Probably one of my favorite bars in the Wallingford/U-District area. Theyve got a fun photo booth and an attached seating area where you can order food. The best part is walking to Dicks Burgers a couple blocks away when youre night is over.

This place is awesome, I love the atmosphere. Top notch, the drink prices are good and the bartenders are cool...It gets two stars because the music is absolutely horrible. Ive been told the owner chose it, clearly he/she has no taste..too bad because I would come here more often if it wasnt so bad

Very cool vibe at this bar. Tasteful hip-hop music in the background and a very ominous, under-water feel. Many cozy spots to get some privacy and also includes a covered, partially outdoor seating area. Many delicious cocktails to choose from! A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Unique drinks and good beer selection. Not too expensive. It gets pretty crowded at peak hours, but Ive never not found a seat. Love the decor and the best place to sit is the porch which is reminiscent of a ship deck. They have big heating lamps so you can sit outside all year round.

Great ocean-themed drive bar. Awesome staff, great ownership. Perfect place to hang out on a nice day on the covered outdoor area or on a colder day with the heat lamps on. Has called photo booth and the facade is shaped like a pirate ship. What more do you need?

Great vibes with awesome bartenders. Interesting mixed drinks that all taste great. Try a Toy Boat during brunch (or any time) and you wont be disappointed. This place can get busy so be prepared to stand sometimes or order drinks at the bar.

A slight bit divy, a lot bit theme-y, this place serves good food and good drinks. The temperature is on the cold side, so wear layers if you (like me) chill easily. A typical selection for beer and alcohol, though limited cider options.

Very cool atmosphere and vibe. The service was great, the staff super friendly. The food (mostly flatbreads) was tasty and the drink I had was good as well. The happy hour isnt bad, and they even have it on the weekends.
