Being a former resident of West Maui, I used to frequent the Kapalua location for Sanseis Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar. I occasionally island hop on over to Waikiki to eat at their other location as well. So one can say that Im a fan of Sanseis. So needless to say I was rather excited when I knew a location was coming to Seattle. Food quality is still on par with the Hawaii locations but prices seem to be higher and portions have gotten smaller. Which is a bit of a disappointment but never stops me from consuming any and everything I desire. I tried a few recommendations from the server of the new menu items, though the items were fresh and taste and flavor I wasnt enthralled as I enjoy more traditional flavors for sushi. After a bottle of sake and a couple of beers, I honestly cannot remember in specific what was ordered aside from the Chefs choice sushi boat and dynamite shrimp. Two staples of "what to get" while dining at Sansei. Overall a still great food and fresh ingredients. Im almost impartial to 3.5 stars because the servings are small and the price is pretty high. The atmosphere of the Hawaii locations are more enjoyable in large open spaces and live karaoke, versus the Seattle location which is very sectioned off, small sushi bar makes eating anything more than one roll at a time difficult. If you order the sushi boat, youd be eating right off the boat. Service is good and sushi chefs are knowledgeable and helpful. Parking could be a pain as they are located downtown Seattle on a one way street. They are a big (hawaiian) named restaurant that came to Seattle to compete with our local greats so it does make it tough. I honestly cant say that they are doing something above and beyond what places like I Love Sushi, Umi Sake House, Shiros, Maneki, Musashis, Mashiko... just to name a few. So as much as Id love to give them more than just an A-OK, I cant. The flavors and the size of dishes in Hawaii were bigger, prices were cheaper AND they had open mic karaoke for entertainment as well. Combine that with the atmosphere of sunshine, warm weather and beaches made Sanseis in Hawaii a 5 star establishment - the Seattle location doesnt offer any of that, expensive/difficult parking, no views, no karaoke, smaller portions for a higher price and really have just been overcasted by grey skies and tough competition. 3 Stars isnt terrible - its good. Just not great.

This is a real bummer to write, because my mom and I were excited to try this restaurant for the first time. We had tickets to a show, at the Paramount, so we made reservations 1 month in advance. Im glad we did because a lot of people decided to just pop in, after the show. We got seated right away, and were served water, then sat for 20 minutes. Multiple waitstaff walked by us, and the tables on either side of us had their dishes cleared and payments made; not one person made eye contact with us, so that we could even get someones attention. The hostess, who sat us, came to clean the table next ro us and didnt even check to see that we had been helped. We told her we were leaving because we hadnt been helped, and she just looked at us blankly. The restaurant had plenty of room, so we were so surprised that it was a problem. It was really disappointing.

Great food just like we had in Maui. We walked in and nobody was at the door so we sat down at the sushi bar as you can in 99% of the sushi bars around I went to the rest room. When I got back my girlfriend wanted to leave she said someone came up to her and said you have to wait to be seated. She pointed out the person and I laughed and said she doesnt work here look how she is dressed in a plaid shirt some scrubby jeans and some worenout boots. I asked the chief if it was a problem he said no no worries. I did notice this person that looked as if she could not have worked in a place like this how she was dressed and she was working as a host guess she might need some people skills as our bill was over 125.00 for 25 min of sitting at the bar.

I LOOVE LOVE IT!! soo good and amazing!! Hiro san puts soo much attention in every dish! The beef was super gooddd was like tofu that soft!! He would describe every dish and where it came from. He is super friendly we even took a picture with him behind the sushi bar...SERVICE is insane, but for the price i would think you expect it...except the part they cook your shabu for u..hehe. Wierd at first cause its really quiet no music...I think thats why you should order sake cause then your buzzed..haha. You can bring your own wine/champagne dont drink their water its $20!!! for Evian. If you dont finish sake they will pack it up for you to take home which is nice...mines still in the fridge..hehe..ITS A MUST TRY AT LEAST ONCE!!

We stayed next door at the "Premier on Pine"on our Sisters Trip 2016 and little did we know that we were staying right by the finest dining in Seattle. The first night we went during happy hour and WOW! WOW! Service was supreme, and the food was the finest! Each entree was impeccable and the flavors are divine. And on our last night in Seattle, we finished our tip off, once again at Sansei, and the service was just as great and the food the finest!!!We will be back and the next time we are in Hawaii we will visit their restaurants as well!

Only one criticism: Ambience. They need to change their music selection and dim the lights more like the Maui location does... we went on a Friday night and it was as bright as a cafeteria. The food and service however are a 5. Love this place. We have gone to the Maui location for years and the dishes taste just as delicious here in the Seattle one. Butterfish is amazing and the Panko arugula tuna roll is delicious. Get it all. Cant go wrong except the Sansei Special roll is just a spicy California which is meh.

Our experience was awful, but Im going to rate it on a combination of what I saw as well as what happened to us. The staff was friendly, but talked too much and didnt get things done fast enough. Food was delivered to the wrong tables constantly. The pricing was kind of high, even for their happy hour specials. They also kept pushing us on buying a specific food, as well as other tables, which isnt cool when you arent asking their opinion. The food wasnt really good anyways, not worth waiting over an hour to get sushi...

Went for Happy Hour after theater at the Paramount. Reception very helpful in arranging a table as we had no reservation. Service was very good in our opinion. Waitress was knowledgeable about the sushi. Food came fast enough. We left a good tip and will be back. The one negative was that the red wine my wife ordered and the rye Manhattan that I ordered were subpar. If we eat there again, we would order beer, which is what our son and his girlfriend did, and they were happy with theirs.
