I had high hopes for Roti, and it was very conveniently located to my Queen Anne hotel. I phoned in my order, and I think the restaurant phoned it in, too. I almost always end up getting Indian food in every city to which I travel for three or more days, and Roti is not entirely up-to-snuff. When I picked up the food, the staff was very pleasant, though there was an Indian man sleeping on a couch behind the register, right at the front of the restaurant. I got samosas, malai kofta, garlic naan, and mango laasi for $25. The samosas are enormous -- far larger than any Ive gotten before. They are good. The malai kofta, which I order often, was exceedingly oily. My experience was significantly dampened by my naive assumption that the purchase of an $11 entree of this type might include some rice. Nearly everything on the menu is typically consumed with rice, so why wouldnt it be included? They could at least mention on the phone that the rice is extra, and upsell me for the extra $3 or whatever it is. The garlic naan was quite disappointing. It was hot and fluffy, but had no taste of garlic. It wasnt just plain naan, either, it had a different, and not particular pleasant flavour. In the absence of rice for my malai kofta, I ended up eating most if it on the naan, which more or less masked the non-garlic flavour of the ostensibly garlic naan. The mango laasi was okay, but not particularly flavourful. The restaurant is handy if you are in lower Queen Anne, but it is not really a bargain, and if this is the best Indian in town, as some reviewers assert, then this town is hurting.

The wildly fluctuating ratings should be an indication that perhaps Roti does not deserve its rating. We have just eaten at this restaurant in the past few hours and have found the food to be the extremely poor. The garlic and "special" naans, which you would expect to be good from a restaurant that calls itself "Roti", felt like it ws warmed in a microwave rather than a tandoor while the lamb kebab was dry, favour-less and without any merit. The mutter paneer was extremely poor, with very little cheese and even less taste. The pilau rice tasted as if spices were used as pot pourri to mask an offending flavour, which at least was consistent with the rest of the meal. As for value, we paid $60 for a meal that at many other Indian restaurants in major cities in the United States would have charged less. It is not good value for money. Speaking as someone from the Indian subcontinent, the food was about as authentic as a flight attendants smile. No amount of Indian decor can hide the fact that the food was simply not good. Some of the positive "reviews" suggest this is the best Indian restaurant in Seattle, however if that is an accurate reflection of Indian food in Seattle then one should inform the United Nations about the humanitarian disaster that is occurring in the Pacific Northwest.

I want to be clear - Ive eaten here before and enjoyed the food. The reason Im rating this restaurant so low is their completely inexcusable unprofessionalism on busy nights. Last night, my two guests from out of town and I came in at 5:30pm hoping to get a table for dinner. We were told the wait time would be 20-25 minutes. Not only did we then wait over an hour, but the host then sat a group who had come in behind us, claiming they had been there longer. They had not - one of the gentleman had been up in his face for longer while we had been quietly waiting in the waiting area. There was no attempt to create a list, and in the hour we waited, many guests who were in line just gave up and left. Two groups with reservations came to find their tables taken. If you even come to Roti and there is a line, do yourself a favor - leave.

Its very hard to find Indian food that tastes home-cooked, but Roti really succeeds in delivering an authentic and flavorful experience. Most Indian restaurants in the US make the same red gravy and put it on every dish. Roti makes it perfectly clear that this is not their style; they aim to make each dish as distinct and faithful to the traditional taste as possible. I shared matar paneer and paneer jalfreze with my partner, which was 2 paneer dishes with a red gravy and each one was completely different from the other, as they should be. The only quality they shared was the level of delicious flavor built into each distinct gravy. The paneer tasted fresh too, which I almost never find. The family who owns this restaurant is so warm and welcoming. I cant say enough nice things about the entire experience.

We have been regulars here for 4 years and the food has always been great! I love coming here for dinner mostly. Their food is always fresh and the meat always tender and flavorful. I had lunch once here and the buffet was available. I liked the food but was not as fresh as ordering a la carte probably because the food is kept warm on warmers which tends to dry out the meat. I have taken many friends from out of town here and they are excited to come visit again so I can take them back to this restaurant :) Great eats and BEAUTIFUL decor imported in from India by the owners. The management are great too - they walk around each table welcoming guests and sharing stories of India. Man, I love this place :)

The owner VERY RUDELY told us to finish lunch stricly at 2:30pm (closing time)...we reached there at 2:10 and hoped that we can sit for sometime even if the kitchen closes...but the owner didnt budge and very rudely told us to leave..i had a served plate in my hand and had to keep it away just because he wasnt ready to keeps his place open to sit past 2:30....my friend had already served himself and had just started eating when he too was told to leave...owner wasnt even courteous enough to not charge him for the food he barely touched....we decided to leave the place ASAP. Not sure how the food is but the owner and the service was FAR from being hospitable or even respectful.

Please dont go by the good reviews posted here for this place. This is the crappiest Indian restaurant Ive ever gone to. I went to the weekend buffet and was shocked to see a dead cockroach near the buffet!! When it was pointed out to the waiter, he smiled and removed it!!! The story doesnt end there.. another patron sitting beside me called the waiter and pointed to a dead bug in her water!! I felt like throwing up! By the way, this is by far the worst Indian food Ive had (taste-wise). If you eat here and you liked the food, then theres something seriously wrong with you. Im hoping that some health inspector reads this review and closes this place down. Its a health hazard!

This is one of the worst restaurants to go eat. Buffet selection was a handful of choices of chicken and curry. Slim pickings on dessert (basically watermelon). The buffet area is smaller than my kitchen! Owner/manager was rude: When I asked for soy sauce, he replied with something like, "This is Indian place, theres no soy sauce." Food was dry and mediocre... Broccoli veggie was soggy and over-cooked. After I left eating the buffet, still felt hungry.. McDonalds would have been much better. Should have went to the Thai restaurants nearby, theyre much better. Avoid this place if you want more selection in Indian buffet (or any buffet for that matter).
