Though a bit on the pricey side for being on 12th Ave near Pike, Barrio has a pretty decent happy hour and very high quality staff. When I went I had a happy hour draft beer which was fresh and poured properly (inch of head on the beer). For food I went for the chilaquiles, which is a sort of traditional Mexican dish, comprised of triangle tortilla chips, sauce and cheese, and then the daily selection of meat and veggies. When I was there it was shredded pork and snow peas. There are two choices of hot sauce, one of which is medium-hot the other one will have your mouth burning for well into the next hour or two. They were both awesome. Aside from being somewhat out of my normal price range, the only thing I would ding Barrio for is the seats. They have a spring-filled pad that feels unstable when sitting (could be a problem if you have been having a good happy hour).

The only reason why I am giving this place two stars and because our waitress was very very very sweet. But the food was terrible, like genuinely disgusting. Im tired of all these cultural fusion restaurants in Seattle that lazily appropriate years of tradition just to make a quick buck. Its as if they were trying to justify their extremely high prices with a ridiculously beautiful ambiance... But you cant eat ambience. And you almost cant eat their food either. Never in my life have I been to a Mexican kitchen that refuses to give me spicy food. I asked for more hot sauce, I got water down ketchup. I asked for habanero sauce, I got black pepper water. Im just very confused why this place still exist. It just tasted like colorful mush with no flavor whatsoever.

Im sorry but this place is pretentious, overpriced and the service is not that great. If you want an "upscale" Mexican restaraunt, Id recommend going to Matador or Pesos at least they dont charge you for chips and salsa! Also, after ordering chips and salsa (that we had to pay for) nobody brought it for 15 minutes so I finally got up and got it off the counter myself. I only gave this place 2 stars (instead of 1) because despite the extremely tiny portion sizes for the huge prices it did taste good. Do not waste your time or money by going to Barrio. If you want delicious Mexican food for a great price - Senor Moose in Seattle cant be beat. Their sopes are delicious! Service can be a little slow but its always very pleasant and warp speed compared to Barrio.

Finally checked this place out for brunch on Sunday. I was really excited to try their Chiliquiles but I did not like Sundays special so instead I ordered the eggs benedict without the pulled pork. Holy cow was I glad I ordered this. The habanero hollandaise sauce was outstanding. Loved the spice in it. The eggs were perfectly cooked and I really loved the papa bravas. They had great spice to them. I wish they were a little crispy, but they had so much flavor it didnt really matter! My boyfriend got the Breakfast Cazuela. He said it was really good. The fresh homemade tortillas were awesome but very heavy so he only ate one of them. Our friend ordered the biscuits and gravy and said that he loved it. That it really great flavor. Would definitely go back!!!

Excellent food in a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere. Walking through the big wooden doors, (which my wife didnt initially believe was the entrance), youre greeted by a dimly lit, but friendly setting. Large windows set higher, allow outside light from the street and sky in. Guacamole was good, if a little cold (probably not fresh, but made daily). Tacos are where its at though. We had prawns, pastor, and fish. We all agreed that three tacos was more than enough food and felt stuffed. Three prawns per taco, a good helping of pork in the pastor, and a pretty large piece of beer battered fish were well received in our stomachs. Definitely recommend if youre looking for Mexican style food in Seattle.

Ambiance and chips are solid...though there are some areas of improvement. The food is mediorcre at best and cuts a lot of corners. Amateur food doesnt work wit my tryin to impress my gf. Flavors are mostly the same and items Were overly masked by sauce or dressing or both..heavy parmesean on everything. Techniqe and ingrediants noted from the menu disconnected to the actual food. For instance, pulled chicken was actually diced up chicken breast. Buttermilk chicken were salty deep fried strips accompanied by buttermilk sauce. Roasted beet tacos were beets straight from the fridge and cold. Not roasted. I will revisit though and hopefully it will be better.

Unlike a lot of other reviews Ive read, we got very good, attentive service. I did get the wrong margarita the first time but the mistake was quickly recognized and our server offered to correct it. It was a DAMN good margarita so I wasnt bothered by the mistake. The place aint cheap but everything was good and the service was perfectly pleasant and quick enough. Plus they have every Mexican beer and soda you could ask for, which is a plus. My only complaint is that nothing was SPICY enough.. I mean really; adobo should have at least a little kick to it, right?!?! But otherwise, I will be going back (next time with tobasco in my purse! :)

Came in on a Thursday hoping to finish the night with a nice drink and a snack. The ambiance was a pleasing combination of dark and upscale. We were served at the bar by an expert bartender crafting superb cocktails with fresh and varied ingredients. He clearly enjoyed his work, and paid attention to details, making it fun for us. The drink menu was inventive and the list of available spirits was impressive. The chips and salsa were very tasty though a little salty. This was what we were looking for. Overall a terrific experience.

If you visit Seattle, do not miss this rare gem of high end Mexican food. The ambience is vibrant, the food is an experience to the palate. We had the spicy cauliflower which was an exciting surprise, 20 ingredient mole with chicken was quite a treat and you can not go wrong with the mojitos. Its a packed place on Friday night, we basically stumbled upon the place and we had to wait a bit but was worth it. Great service and friendly hostess. A must if we ever come back to Seattle

Quick review: Decent food (low vegetarian selection), good for larger groups and a pain to find parking in the Capitol hill area make this a second choice for me. Pros: Great drinks. Cons: Poor vegetarian selection. Barrio is a Mexican fusion restaurant in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. Hard to find parking, but is a good place for larger groups. Decent beer selection and an excellent drinks selection make this a fun place to hang out. Great tapas options and decent entrees.

Barrio is one of our favorite places to go for late happy hour, which is terrific. Love the ambiance created by the hundreds of candles. I believe they dont list their Chilaquiles on their HH menu, but try them! Every time weve ordered them, weve loved them, and it seems they have the fusion part of the Mexican and PNW cuisines down in this particular dish. Their Sangría is excellent, well-balanced and youve got to be careful because youl want to drink and drink and drink it :-)

Service was terrible. If she was new, Im afraid she didnt get trained very well. After about 10 trips back and forth we finally got our drink orders. Two cocktails that we had to tell her how to make them, and 3 trips back and forth before they got them. Coffee, first without cream and sugar and then another trip to get a spoon. My coke came and a glass of water for all five if us was fine. The food ordering went better and the food was good. But not sure we will be back.
