Fantastic food at an amazing price in a quirky little family owned restaurant! I am an Indian food connoisseur and before moving to Seattle spent 5 years enjoying delicious Indian food all over the city of New York. Over the last 5 years, I have desperately searched the Seattle region for an Indian restaurant that would fill my cravings and meet my very high standards (set in NYC). I have been consistently disappointed by the Indian food in Seattle, but Everest Kitchen is fantastic and easily the best Indian restaurant in the Seattle area. The next closest Indian restaurant that is worth visiting is Curry Corner in Olympia, but why drive over an hour when you can get even better curry right here. Heres the scoop, every curry dish I have eaten here I have loved. The portions are generous and the service is usually quick, although sometimes it can get a bit backed up on Friday and Saturday nights (overall, never had to wait more than 45 minutes from time of arrival to receiving food). The butter chicken is my favorite dish and the korma comes a close second. Pekora is a delicious appetizer, but you really cant go wrong with any dish. Since discovering this gem over a year ago, I have eaten there nearly every month. It may be my favorite restaurant in the city and is definitely up there with Revel (for brunch), Kwanjai (for Thai), and La Carta de Oaxaca (for Mexican).

Update: Previously a 4 star establishment offering generous portions of uniquely flavoured food at reasonable prices, I can only hope my latest visit was not indicative of a new low standard. One of the things I loved about the Everest Kitchen (when they were located at the extreme north end of Lake City and not in Lake Forest Park) was that their familiar Indian dishes had a unique flavour to them. The spiciness wasnt of the typical variety; it crept up on you and heated you from the inside. It was a subtle spiciness served in a bold quantity that you just dont expect in a western environment. And I loved them for it. Tonights meal was admittedly a safe selection of Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Vindaloo and, while not bad tasting, the expected heat was just not there. To compound the disappointment, the Tikka Masala tasted bland; almost like a plain tomato basil soup. I really ought to round down to 2 stars but perhaps they were having an off night; understaffed and overworked. I hope that is the case. I will visit soon to try one of their Himalayan dishes again to see if they have indeed lost their spark and adjust the review accordingly.

Recently had a birthday dinner. When I made the reservation and pre-ordered the food, the owner, Mohan, helped me figure out the quantities we would need for our party of 12. The food was available shortly after we arrived and it was delicious! The vegetarian and chicken momos disappeared quickly. The Chicken Korda was the favorite followed by the freshly made Garlic; Spinach; and Butter Naan. The Chicken Chili was also polished off (next time I am going with a 3 star, I like it just a bit spicier). The Buttered Chicken was also very good. We tried the goat curry for something different and bone in means exactly that - lots of bones (hmmm - just like in Nepal!) The staff took good care of us and brought more rice and kept the water coming along with the beer. Since we were all SO stuffed, we wanted a taste of the Mango Ice Cream. Mohan brought out complimentary Ice Cream that we shared and it hit the spot to finish off a wonderful birthday dinner. This has become my new favorite place to eat. I look forward to taking many more friends there for a taste of Nepal! Eat in or order take out!

Giving 4 stars because of the buffet price and service. Food was okay. I am Indian so I am biased when it comes to Indian food. I had the paneer curry, the saag, and vegetable pakoras and I felt as if they were lacking in spices. I think the food is made for a white persons palate because thats what most of the people were inside. The paneer also had a strong tomato taste. Tomato is a part of paneer tikka masala but it shouldnt be the strongest flavor. Im thinking if I came back for dinner that the taste would be better since it would be made not buffet style.

Went for a buffet. It smallest buffet I every went to. There were 2 chicken entrees 2 veggie, tandoori and pakoras. One soup and nan. And I dont remember these items because they were tasty but because there were so few. Had to repeatedly ask to have the plates cleared. And had to wait a long while for the check.only went there since its the closest Indian buffet to where I stay. Will try ordering ala carte once.

I love their buffet and their veggie momos. Having been there twice on weekends, I enjoyed eating their buffet both times. While their choices/selection is slightly limited in comparison to some other indian restaurants in the neighborhood, they make up for it with the lower price of the buffet. The food wasnt spicy and was served hot. I definitely plan to be visit this place often and pick up more momos.

We sampled vegetable momos and lamb kebab. I really liked the momo filling--a combination of cabbage, ground cashews, onion and herbs--but found the momo dough rubbery, as if it had dried out before being steamed. The lamb was tough overall and some bits were quite gristly, but well-seasoned. The staff were friendly and fast. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. I would give this place another try.

Very pleasant little place with wonderful food and very sweet staff. Indian food tends to be a bit on the pricey side, but Everest Kitchen is very reasonable, and you can also get Nepali and Tibetan dishes when youre feeling adventurous. It deserves to be better-known. However: Everest Kitchen is now closed. :-( Too bad; I really liked it.

Ive never had Tibetan or Nepalese food before, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, the veggie momos (dumplings) and biryani (think fried rice, but better... also Im not sure if this was an Indian entree because they do that too and I dont know any better) was great. Wow, that was long winded and awful... just try the place.

This place is awesome. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. Maybe you are ordering strange things? The Vegetable MoMos are excellent. The Pungaloo Saag is excellent. The Lamb Vindaloo was great when I tried it. Not sure what theres not to like about this place. It has some very unique menu items that are fabulous.

Great food, great value, nice people. Wonderful place to have a meal with excellent prices. Fun to walk over to the bookstore (Third Place Books) afterwards at night or the Farmers Market when its open. Great all you can eat lunchtime buffet too ($10).
