Saison is a cute, quaint little spot. I should preface this by saying I tried Saison (for the first time) during Richmond Restaurant Week, so they were not serving any of their regular menu. I was a little disappointed by that. For my 3 courses I had chicken wings (Smoked Jalapeño and Charred Pineapple Rub), pork-butt over grits with greens and a strawberry rhubarb shortcake dessert. I havent order chicken wings at a restaurant since Applebees changed theirs to breaded. These wings were PERFECT. I prefer mine fried hard/twice baked and well-seasoned and this fit the bill. So, Im planning to go back for a happy hour and just get wings lol. The other dishes were visually appealing and werent bad, but probably just wasnt suited for me. I will say, the shortcake was more of a strawberry-rhubarb crumble. Not much "cake" to it. It was more like shortbread crust pieces. Again, great presentation but not the delivery I anticipated. And the cut of pork butt was just really fatty, so I didnt enjoy it as much as I liked. The grits and greens were great. Overall, Restaurant Week is about exploration and supporting a good cause. Oh, and the service was also good a side from our waitress being a little slower. Other people came and checked on us and when they didnt have sweet tea, they offered to add the syrup used in bar drinks and that worked well for my friend. Im looking forward to trying some of their regular menu items. I think theres some good potential too.

Im an out of towner, but I visit Richmond every so often for business. One of my team members suggested Saison - and when we showed up, I wasnt sold because it seemed small and crowded. Plus, Im not big on seafood (which is what I smelled right as we walked in). Once we got seated (after I fell right in front of everyone and cut my knee up - thanks, extra long maxi dress) I started to warm up to the place. The menu was inside of a cute old-school Golden Book. Nice touch. I scanned the menu and the burger looked good - and I can never turn down a good cheeseburger being a Wisconsin-ite. Let me tell you, when this thing showed up, I was in awe. So much cheesy, melty goodness. I didnt really know how to attack it, but I just went for it. Seriously - best burger of my LIFE. I dont really know how to put into words what made it so good - but it was perfection. Now Im campaigning to make this a regular spot when we come back into town.

Coming from a family of cooking and culture I have to say this restaurant/bar has an extremely unique style. The bartender was busy making drinks with "out of the ordinary" ingredients but made plenty of time to give background on liqueurs and recommend some of his favorites. The food was of excellent quality and originality. Only suggestion is MAKE RESERVATIONS because it is popular. Such an incredible atmosphere with art and a sense of wonder. I have been to many cities and tried many unique food venues and this is by far one of my favorite.

we went on a Thursday night for just drinks. the bartender was standoffish, which is fine, but the cocktails were just bad. I ordered one called the Forgotten, basically a Manhattan with fernet and aperol. I tasted no bourbon, only vermouth and way too much orange bitters. It tasted like eating an orange peel. It wasnt a well-balanced cocktail and neither was my sisters. I had a few sips, then asked for a beer instead. The beer was warm. The bartender didnt say anything and neither did I; just left as soon as I could to go somewhere else.

Ok restaurant... service was okay until friends were accused of harassing server ( never happened) then forced out of restaurant and they caused a big seen and threatened to call the cops.... not screaming hate crime or anything but the fact that we were all minorities really set a fire off for employees. Tipped the bartender 25$+ and he decided to treat us terribly after he got his tip... cant stand by a place that treats its guests this way....

Very disappointed on my one dining experience here. I ordered the scallop entree and was prepared to see several massive diver seared scallops. Instead what I received were about 4 very small, and over-cooked scallops and they were not cheap. To make matters worse, the server seemed genuinely annoyed to be waiting on us. I really looked forward to this living up to the hype I had heard so much about but unfortunately left let down.

Very impressed from start to finish. Our waitress was very helpful and gave us insightful suggestions and highlighted elements of her favorite dishes, which definitely helped in our choosing. The food was harmoniously earthy and decadent. For my main dish I ordered the House Sausage, which seemed to be a modern take on sausage and cheese grits with greens, and it was amazing. I wish I could have tasted everything on the menu.

Nice atmosphere, cool crowd, good beer selection, friendly staff, but the food was disappointing. It was fried chicken night, so we had friend checkerboard and a burger. Both lacked flavor. The burger was a little dry and super salty. The checked was under done. The beer was tasty but to warm. Our waitress was great - we didnt complain, but she took the chicken of the bill and apologized.

Ok service. The staff didnt to seem to friendly (which seems to be the norm in RVA), but werent really rude either. Our waitress did warm up to us a bit when I engaged her with some humorous interaction. The food was good. I wasnt overwhelmed by it, but it was solid. Its a small establishment, so Id be sure to make reservations or get there early.

The waitress was rude to us as soon as we walked in. We had a couple bottles of water with us because we had been walking through the city. She gave us an unforgettable look and told us we had to hide them under the table. Get over yourself... we walked out and took our business elsewhere.

Hipster bar with good, unique cocktails made by a knowledgeable bartender. Food is way better than it should be for a place like this. Great atmosphere. Worth a stop for food and a drink or two even at these prices. Just dont order a Coors Light at a place like this.

Amazing cocktails mixed by expert staff that are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. No judgement here just delicious food and great drinks. We go for happy hour regularly over the past 3 years and are never disappointed.

Staff was friendly, but food was average at best. Drinks way overpriced for what they were. Owner was on site moving about the restaurant, but he seemed off and halitosis was in effect! Wont be going back.

Neat place. Nice people. Menu, though...really limited and everything is way, way overpriced. The burger is decent but still, price was high and the "marrow"naise was gross.

Neighborhood staple. Wanna know who lives in J-Ward, stop by here. Good people, great wine, good food. Go to the market for a high quality super cheap beer drinking session.

If you like exotic beverages and pretentious entrees (but VERY small portion sizes), Saisons might be for you. I prefer not to spend $35 and still feel hungry. Not for me.
