Best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. I was first introduced to the El Paso in Midlothian (now El Ranchero) a few years ago, but have been going to the El Paso at Cox Rd. and Three Chopt since I learned of its existence. I have been there many, many times (unlike the previous raters who have apparently only been there once or twice...). I have had bad experiences only a couple times out of my probably one hundred visits to both restaurants over the years, but having worked in the service industry myself, that is obviously expected. Things happen! Staff and Atmosphere: The staff are always friendly and are typically on point with food and drinks. The manager usually walks around periodically to make sure you are being taken care of. Honestly, the atmosphere kind of reminds me of a more relaxed Olive Garden, but Mexican. :) Chips and Salsa: I have never had a stale chip. The salsa tastes great and is always accompanied by a white, mayo and sugar based sauce which you wouldnt think would taste good but is the best part! Food: Their food in general is just amazing. I have never had anything I didnt like, and have never brought someone to El Paso who hasnt absolutely loved their food. The rice and beans are one of my favorite parts; they are never overcooked or bland. Drinks: My personal favorites are the 32oz strawberry margarita, the 32oz (elephant foot) dos equis, and their homemade sangria. They have a good selection of domestic and imported beers. Also, they are not afraid to make drinks strong. If you order the 32oz margarita, watch out.. ;) Value: Their prices vary depending on what you get, but their food is affordable and definitely not over priced. (for example: I could have chips and salsa, rice, beans, a burrito, and a drink and walk out of there full, only having paid 9 dollars, including tip). Their alcohol prices are reasonable and they have fairly good drink specials, especially on holidays. I have never had anyone, that I have taken there, complain about their food. In fact, they always love it and always go back for more! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Actually, I am gathering a bunch of people to go there tonight for Cinco de Mayo! :D

I LOVED this restaurant. Chose it over the multitude of Mexican restaurants in the Short Pump area due to great food, prices, and staff. Unfortunately, the last two visits were extremely disappointing. Visited last month (March 4, 2011) and the waitress forgot food, brought incorrect items to the table (my son had to eat something he didnt even order), rarely checked back with us, but then offered to buy us a soda because of her mistakes. This past visit (April 30, 2011) was downright despicable. We were seated next to the only "customers" (a young woman and two little girls) in the restaurant who were watching Alvin and the Chipmunks on a portable DVD player. The volume wasnt terribly loud, however, it kept increasing as we talked. It seemed the more we talked, the louder the volume became. When I could no longer hear my 9 year old daughter without asking her to repeat herself, I leaned over to politely ask the lady at the table to turn the volume down a little bit. It was then that I recognized her as our waitress during our last visit. She welcomed me snottily with, "How about if we just move?" I replied with, "Thatll be fine." Then she turned to our waitress and said something in Spanish. I asked my boyfriend if he "caught what she said" and she turned to me and loudly exclaimed, "If you want, Ill tell you what I said in English you stupid F***ing B***h." I was stunned and asked the host for the manager. She then said to me with a smirk, "I WAS the manager." Then added a nanny nanny boo boo kind of noise at the end. It was then our food was brought to the table. We were already getting up to leave. She announced to the servers that she would pay for our food. Needless to say, I had a terrified 9 year old in tears and well never go back again. The entire situation was quite unfortunate.

Visited last on Sept 7, 09 and Sept 12, 09. Will not go back for a while. Sept 7: staff friendly as usual however took 50 minutes to get food and had hard time getting refills etc, staff said had shortage with kitchen staff. All guest seem to have the same problems. Manager gave us a discount. We thought that due to the labor day weekend the kitchen issues were understandable. Sept 12 visit: Staff again friendly, not crowded. Sat down and quickly serviced. Ordered food. Refills fine, service fine. After 25 minutes the waiter was surprised we didnt have our food and went to check on it. Came back and advised that the kitchen had failed to cook the order. 20 minutes later still no food and waiter advised that the kitchen had again messed up the order. 5 minutes later we had food, but it was not what we ordered. (45 minutes after sitting down). The waiter seemed upset again with the kitchen and went back to fix it. I told him that we would leave and not to worry about it. By this time my family didnt want to wait again. I was going to pay for our drinks (soft drinks) but the cashier said no charge. We went to another mexican place down the street. Not sure what the issues are in the kitchen but until they get them resolved we cant justify taking the chance on sitting for 45 to 50 minutes again and still not having the food that we ordered. We understood the issues last week but to have it happen twice in a row is a bit odd. With that said, the food is great, I hope they fix whatever is going on.

Excellent Mexican food. The menu is comprehensive, with every option you think you want and then some. The margaritas are strong, always a plus. Tableside guac was excellent. White ranch sauce was fantastic. The salsa lacked that extra something, but the rest of it was superb. Side order of sour cream was generous. And the service was among the best Ive had in any Richmond restaurant. The waiter made relevant recommendations based on our likes and the non-wait staff were just as helpful and friendly. El Paso is now on my regular rotation of great Richmond restaurants. I wish Id learned of this place sooner.

Staff was super nice. Nice quick service... I got Togo food. And it was so soggy I couldnt even eat it!!! I ordered a chicken chimichanga and shredded chicken nachos Yeah I know fried stuff can get soggy especially Togo. But I have gotten these items many of times Togo at other Mexican restaurants and there good and not soggy. I would recommend maybe putting the sauces and "salad" on the side. Shredded chicken is in huge chunks not shredded. Like I said service was great hopefully the food will be better if I go again

I LOVE Mexican food and have ventured to most of the restaurants in the greater Richmond area. Hands down - this is my favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is so fresh - giant shrimp, fresh veggies, excellent rice! The services has been great everytime weve gone. And have I mentioned the sangria? Its essentially an alcoholic fruit salad bowl. Request an Uber and go there for dinner. You wont regret it.

The food is delicious and because of that my family and I were regulars. However, lately whenever we did carryout we would get galf our entrees with old wilted brown food that you know was from days ago. The guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes were atrocious. Thus, we were sadly disappointed to find out that they find it acceptable to serve this at carry out assuming you wouldnt see it till you got home.
