We had a group of 16 go in on Saturday, March 18th. The service and food were horrible, it took over an hour to get our food, 1/2 of the food had to of sat under a heat lamp for at least 30 minutes and one of the kids dinners finally came out 20 minutes after the rest of us finally got our food. If we needed or asked for some thing, an extra plate or sour cream it took 15 minutes to get it? We had to track down our server every time to get a drink refill. To top it off I get my bill and my son ordered just plain cheese nachos, they bring it out and it was literally a hand full of nachos (which are free at the table) and 1/4 of a cup of cheese sauce and charged me $9.00??? Are you serious??? I told the server that I was not paying $9.00 for that, no way. She then looks at me and said yeah, we have a new manager and thats what he said we have to charge? I told her I was not paying that and she said that she would adjust my bill, she comes back and takes $2.00 off, you can get a side of cheese sauce for $1.25? I was already so done with the place that I just payed it and left. Plaza Azteca used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant, needless to say I will not be returning. This is not the first time I have had a bad experience, its been several in the last few months but this one was the icing on the cake. Cant see myself ever returning. This place took a turn for the worse, guess thats why its the only place in town you dont have to wait to be seated on a Saturday night!!!

We go here three to four times a month. The food is always great although the service can be hit or miss. We try to order something different each time, but every so often we have a few favorites that will get more play in the rotation (chicken & spinach was a surprise favorite). They have a great fresh avocado bowl that is made table side, which can also be prepared a little spicier if you ask. Like most places they bring chips and salsa while you wait (you can get spicier salsa along with the usual red/white, just ask - its free). As far as service goes, sometimes you will get a perfect experience, other times you will get someone who knows very little English. It is par for the course though, and the fact that the food is always great, we dont mind that much. The one in the West End by 288 is the best of the Richmond-area locations. We have been to all, the worst of which is on Rt 60 and 288. That location is always very dirty, the food takes longer every time, and we have always had to ask for small things multiple times (the spicy salsa is a great example). The other two or three are good, but the West End/Short Pump location is always great. Decor-wise, the one off 64 on Broad St. (it is a stand-alone) has a great atmosphere with just as good food/service.

Horrible experience at this place, please do NOT ever go to that place. The attitude of the staff is very horrible & disgusting. These guys do not know how to treat their guests/customers at all. All of the staff speak Mexican and no one understands some basic English, we were waiting for almost 35 minutes just to place an order, and then the ordered items came after 30 minutes ... funniest part is the other customers who came after us were served before us. They guy who served us does not ever care to take the order. After couple of reminders to other staff guys, then he comes and says "Are you ready" ... wont anyone be ready after 30 minutes wait. Sucks!!!! When asked we wanted to reach out to their manager, they come back saying he is busy. After we finished, while heading out, someone who is (guessing he may be the manager) making fun saying See you tomorrow with big laugh. Utterly shame on him. Please consider twice or thrice before going to that place

If I could give 0 stars I would. I ordered food to feed 75 people at a taco bar event I was having for work and the food arrived in small, to go containers! WHO FEEDS 75 PEOPLE IN INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS?!?!? I called the store and asked to speak to the manager who was incredibly rude. He explained he told my employee that this was how he would box it all u. I advised him that Ive ordered from this exact location before and the food was prepared in large catering trays, not 100 to go containers. I just spent over $600 at his store and he was incredibly rude to me. At one point screaming at me and cursing before hanging up the phone with "if you want your f***ing money back then fine!" at which point he hung up on me. If you want good Mexican food, go to Mexico and forget Plaza Azteca!!!!

My sister, our boyfriends, and I went to Plaza Azteca the other night expecting a nice dinner at a higher end mexican restaurant and what we got was terrible service and cold food. My sister and I both got pollo asado and were quite disappointed, both of us got cold beans and rice, and when we requested warmer sides it took until id finished my chicken for it to come out. My sisters boyfriend ordered a margarita that turned out to be ten dollars, at the very most it had a shot and a half in it. We actually tipped another waitress for attending to us more than our waiter. The only thing positive I can say about this place is that it had good atmosphere and good rice...when its warm...

My husband and I visited Plaza Azteca below Short Pump Mall (Richmond, VA) in July of 2017. We were celebrating our anniversary with a few drinks and dinner. Everything was going very well until we ordered a second round of chips and they came out with a huge cockroach walking through them! We jumped up and called the manager over and told him what happened and he didn’t even flinch. In a low voice he asked my husband and I “what would you like me to do”! We responded that we just wanted to leave. It was the most horrible experience ever and I will never return to that location.

I have had the opportunity to try them twice the first time I had placed a large order for an event and the food was cold and didnt have labels on them. I thought I would give them a second chance by dinning in! Which was nice however , what I ordered looked nothing like the picture on the menu which was misleading. Once I got my food it didnt have as much flavor as most Mexican restaurants. Not to say it wasnt good.. because it was fresh but... it definitely was not what I expected! Overall service was great "dinning In" but the food was bland

Service was helpful but grossly overworked. Tableside guacamole service is neat but kind of grossed me out in presentation. Guacamole lacked flavor altogether but was fresh - ask for salt! Chips were not fresh (although we arrived late) and salsa seemed jarred. Soup was far too filling for the BF (tons of sour cream and chicken and avo make it hefty even for a big guy) and my rice and beans side dish was over salted. Good value for beer purchase. I wouldnt return soon.
