Had to say I come here so often and my last visit was one not to forget. Walked in and when sat, the menus were slid on the table before we were even seated and then the waiter walked away. We ordered an extra set of Chips from three different waiters, three different times. Not because we ordered three more baskets, but because we had yet to get our hands on the very first basket. Throughout those 45 minutes of waiting we called over a waiter and they told me I could not order an enchilada and that I couldnt get more chips and walked away. I then got up to talk to an employee about ordering food, as that was my main intention, and was told in short time a waiter would be coming to my table. No one did and I ended up having to get up again, ten minutes later. I asked the very same employee who denied me food the first time, if Id be able to order food. The man responded with a "no". Throughout the visit different waiters came to the table and no refills were offerered. And when I stopped a waitress to see what was going on she kept walking. We sat there for an hour with no service and servers past us left and right and offered no help. Servers didnt make eye contact and were very rude. I hope no one else gets the treatment we received today.

I was really looking forward to eating here. We got seated at 4:10 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. After about 15 minutes someone came to get our drink order. I ordered a margarita, and having a little foresight and thinking there could be a wait, I put in the kids order with the drink order - 2 macaroni and cheese ($4.50/ea). About 15-20 minutes later the kids food arrived with half of the drink order. The mac and cheese was served on a side dish plate. $4.50 for one side plate of mac and cheese. Thats it. And they had to share a water because it took another 10 minutes for the second to come. The margarita tasted very very strongly of mix and lime juice, and the server, instead of asking what size I wanted, assumed to give me the largest. By the time someone came to take our order we had been seated for 45 minutes. A table behind us had been seated 20 minutes after us and had their drinks and apps within 10 mins -- guess they were regulars? Instead of odering food with no idea whether we would get it in a reasonable time, and because the kids had finished eating by this time, we asked for the check and decided to go home and make dinner instead. I was incredibly disappointed with the service and likely wont go back.

5/30/17. I need to update this review. This place used to have outstanding service but for some reason it is definitely going downhill. We frequent this place typically two or three times a month , and the last several times service has been horrible. We waited for over 40 minutes to get our food to us. We got our chips and salsa but the lady took off didnt even ask us what we wanted to drink. That took an additional 15 minutes just to get the drinks. Like I said I typically love this place and the food is still fantastic at a reasonable price but the service is horrible. I havent seen Hector there in the past four or five visits and Im wondering if its a management issue at this point. If you want great Mexican food this is the place to go. I cant think of another Mexican restaurant in the Haymarket Gainesville area that can even compete. Go see Hector he will greet you with an enthusiastic hello Amigos. The prices are unbeatable and like I said before great food.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Ive been going for years. The food is fantastic. Their salsa has great flavor, the queso dip is my favorite from any restaurant ever, and their chorizo is top notch. Their frozen blue margarita is my favorite alcoholic drink, it is so yummy. Its all authentic and tastes amazing. But what is even better than the food is the atmosphere and the people who work there. Balthazar, I think he may be one of the owners, makes the place what it is. He remembers everyone and sometimes I can go a whole month without stopping by and when I finally do, he greets me warmly and asks about things that I had told him previously that even I had forgotten about. He remembers my order because I tend to order the same thing every time I go. All of the workers are extremely attentive, kind, and welcoming. This is a dining experience like Ive never had before. They have a customer for life.

Great food, great prices, friendly family owners and servers. When they address you as "Amigo" they mean it. You can tell they are truly glad you are there. The food is great and this is a nice place to sit with some excellent salsa and tortilla chips and chat while waiting for dinner. There is a dining and a bar/dining area. In the dining area there is both table and booth seating to provide the level of socializing or privacy that you desire. During busy hours there is street parking for overflow. I find it a great place to feel comfortable. If you are in a hurry, the prices on take-out combination meals is competitive with fast food, and much more enjoyable!

We managed to snag the last open table on a typically busy Saturday night before the line started to form. Our server was friendly and efficient, the food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, and empty plates quickly removed. I enjoyed one of the combination platters which had a beef taco, chili relleno, and beef enchilada. My wife enjoyed her giant chalupa wrap stuffed with chicken, and cheese. My daughter however was dissatisfied with her chicken wings which came out likewarm and tasted freezer burnt, and her guacamole salad which had less rhan a teaspoon of actial guacamole atop the lettuce. Reasonable price for all 3 diners came to only $34.

Authentic food at great prices and a great first experience for us. The atmosphere is almost there, but the food will keep you coming back. The chips and salsa are your standard fair, so save your appetite for the entries. We LOVED our food. She had the mole enchaladas which was not spicy, but very complex. I had the chicken with the ranchero sauce. This sauce was taken to the next level being infused with roasted vegitables. We shared the pork tamales which were as good as I have had in any restaurant. The cashier/manager thanked us for the kind words about our meals, which were his grandmothers receipes.

Low cost, high quality, authentic Mexican food has never been so appreciated by so many in so small a space. Haymarket staple has become very popular with its fresh tasting, always hot, and inexpensive fare.Carnitas and deep fried chimichangas are my favorite. Save room for dessert, as the sopapillas cap off dinner nicely. WARNING! Signature 27 ounce margaritas make a designated driver a must! No Reservations taken so plan for a bit of a wait but it is so worth it. WE Try to get here once or twice a month. Everybody loves it - including the kids.
