Great promise and food but try not to sit in the bar. So we were visiting town and chose the Silk MIll based partly on reputation and partly on its proximity to the client we were visiting. The place is delightfully decorated in the dining rooms, including old mill equipment hanging from the walls and ceiling and the old wood covering maybe 90% of the floors. We, unfortunately, sat in the bar area which has some strange hodge podge of mediocre bar art and video games whose constant videos draw your attention every 10 seconds or so. To be fair, that was our own fault... When we walked in someone in our group asked rhetorically "I wonder how in these seat yourself places they keep track of customers?". This was clearly a mistake made to karma as we were ignored for 5 minutes, then told the name of the person whod be our server... Then, a few minutes later, the same person who told us our servers name apparently drew the short straw to take our table. From then until our food arrived was probably as short as reasonably expected with a medium burger in the order. Everyone enjoyed their food. My burger was the perfect lunch size, a salad and a cheese steak sandwich were also enjoyed by my table mates. The fries were excellent and didnt seem like the kind that come from the Sysco bag. Then the waiting happened again. Im not sure what happened this time but the time between food completion and ticket arrival took too long. I really believe our visit would have been excellent if we hadnt wandered all the way to the bar and since the food was enjoyed around the table, Im giving 4 stars to the restaurant, but not the bar...

Had initially given a 4 star because our initial visit was stellar. However the last 6 times we have been, the food was terrible, not just one item, the whole meal. The kids Mac and cheese is penne noodles with some shredded cheddar, no flavor at all. The porterhouse was 80% fat and over cooked the last 4 times, and when I complained, the owner offered to comp our drinks. The chicken was rubber and was brought to the table cold. The dish named Diablo (cant remember the proper name) was bland, good on the spicy part but no other flavor. The servers apparently hate it there, forgetful of things you ask for even though they write them down. Have never in the last year and a half had the same server or seen servers from the previous visit, Im guessing they have a hard time finding/retaining semi quality servers. The owner seems to not care, only offering drinks comps for terrible food, makes you wait 10 min before seating you, then stares at an empty business trying to decide where to seat you. Its a very nice facility, but its just not worth the money. I understand that good help in small towns are tough to come by, but the last 6 visits have proven that I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. I have never had such a terrible restaurant experience. Steak was cold by the time I got it because my sides were WRONG as well as the steak being almost RARE when I got it, the alfredo pasta tasted like water down noodles no flavor in the alfredo whatsoever. Asked for cheese or ANYTHING for flavor and I got cold cheese which was just hard in the pasta because it was cold at that point. Nothing was "physically" wrong with my food and the servers and manager said it looked fine so they wouldnt take it off my bill when I only took 3 bites. Last night on vacation spent in a restaurant who could care less about the guests and more about their 6$. Owner and manager refused to take it off after us waiting 20 minutes to get this taken care of. WILL NEVER GO AGAIN.

We went there on Friday, 3/20/2009 at about 6:40 PM. We were put in a "non-smoking" section. This is the first and last time I will go to this restaurant. From the first time I entered, it reeked of cigarette smoke. I have been spoiled by the non-smoking restaurants. If I had known smoking was allowed, I would have gone to another place, even Burger King. Smokers in general do not realize how much cigarette smoke affects others. Having a section for non-smokers does not prevent the odor from permeating the whole building. Very offputting. The service was excellent at the beginning. She was friendly, however when the server got another customer, she became very inattentive. The food was average, nothing extraordinary. Prices were average to high for the items we ordered. Soup was good.

I am extremely disappointed with this venue. We booked them for our wedding dinner with friends and family with roughly 45 people. Willing to pay $1500 to cover everything and they bailed on us last minute. A week before our wedding after we already had everything scheduled for setup. All because it was overwhelming for them. That is so ignorant and rude and now we are in a bind because of their ignorance. I guarantee you wont make $1500 in just 4 hours of a time span. You will never get my business nor will I recommend your facility for anything. You need to learn to run a business because that is not how you treat customers. Highly disappointed.

Hidden off the main street in Orange, the Silk Mill Grille has a great eclectic menu and interesting ambience. The silk mill used to be a major employer for many years and was renovated by a local builder and now houses a host of businesses. Their French onion soup is the best I have had outside of New York and their tostadas are better than any of the Mexican restaurants in a 30 mile radius. The salmon and steak dishes that we have dined on are also very well done as well as the lovely steamed veggies that accompany them. Great place for smokers, not so good for non-smokers because the smoke is not well-contained to the smoking areas.

My wife and I ordered the Meatloaf, I usually really enjoy Meatloaf and its an item that you usually cant go wrong with. All I can say is if you go there: NEVER GET THE MEATLOAF! I repeat: NEVER GET THE MEATLOAF! I was extremely disappointed the meatloaf was cold and tasted extremely bland. The top of the loaf was covered with ketchup I guess in order to smother its natural taste. Service was great, but the food was just average. Save your money and go to subway or something like that because its around the same quality

My wife and I were traveling and decided to stop and stay in Orange VA for the night. We looked up a few local placed and the Silk Mill Grille sounded nice and local for the area. When we arrived the place looked amazing with all the country decor. We were greeted by the nicest hostess and the hospitality proceeded through our entire dinner... The food was incredible, prices were very reasonable and service was outstanding. We would 100℅ go back again.

At Reynolds we get take-out all of the time and they always make sure the orders are correct and on time. In addition to that, they take the time to write on the box the name of the person its intended for, in order to avoid confusion on large orders. I really appreciate the consistent service and attention to detail....Not to mention the good food. Keep it up!
