After a weekend away at Massanutten, the bf and I stopped at Thunderbird Cafe for breakfast/brunch before driving home. It is a cute little diner, affiliated with Hanks down the street. We sat at the counter and so it was pretty cool to be able to peek at the kitchen and see all the commotion going on inside. Service was quick and our waitress was incredibly kind. They serve nitro cold brew coffee here! Always a plus for my coffee-obsessed boyfriend. I ordered the sticky pig which was basically a pulled pork sandwich made out of French toast. It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet, which was a bit unexpected for me. If youre ever in this area, definitely hit this place up! Just remember that its a small town diner and you wont be disappointed!

Decent food, BAD tude - We were seated right away, but it took forever for someone to take our food order. When the server brought my coffee, she asked if Id like some creamers, and I said yes. Ten minutes passed and still no cream for my now tepid cup of mud, so when the manager passed, I politely asked her if I could get some creamers, and she stared at me like she hated my guts, walked away, and returned with a basket of creamers that she slammed down on the table. All this without ever saying a word. About 5 minutes after that, our server returned with creamers and finally asked for our order. The food was okay, but not worth the wait. Overall, not an experience Id care to repeat, nor to inflict upon you, gentle reader.

Came to this diner twice this weekend for breakfast. Everything tasted so yummy. The hostess greeted us right away and the wait was about 15-20 min each time. Plenty parking. Only a few miles down the street from Massanutten. We got the Rachels favorite and jimmy burrito the first day and the steakhouse omelette and bacon and eggs with cinnamon French toast on the second day. GET THE GRITS! Best grits Ive ever had-its thick though but amazing flavor. They had homemade strawberry jam which was really runny but it tasted good. Service was ok - could be better. But the food came out quick, hot and nicely portioned. Will be back next time we come to massanutten.

First thing when we came in, they told us "well be with you when we catch up". Didnt even ask us if we wanted to sit at the bar. Finally almost 10 mins later they told us we could sit at the bar. Then when our waitress came to take our order she asked.if we were ready or not and before we had a chance to answer she said, "because Im not". I was expecting comfort food...diner food but the menu was way more modern than that. Unempressed with the service and the food. No seasoning on the sides either. Will not return.

I used to love thunderbirds. It was my favorite place to get Pot Roast and everything on the menu was great. Unfortunately for some reason they decided they needed to change the menu. I was there on Sunday and order the Roast Beef and it wasnt near as good as it used to be. I think its wonderful to update and add to a menu, but I was so disappointed and the food was so awful, I probably will never eat there again.

The food is really good, but other things have put me off. The first time I went there they didnt have many customers, plenty of staff, but services was very very slow. The next couple times I visited every seat was full. Maybe its because the staff is so slow that people stay forever. The last time I found the place full I left and decided there are too many options in Harrisonburg to deal with Thunderbird again.

We dropped by for breakfast as its about the only place to eat breakfast in the area. They were fairly busy so we could overlook the slow, minimal service, but cant find a way to forgive the food. Altho the menu sounded a step up creatively from a Waffle House, the food itself was bland, served lukewarm and dried out yet at the same time greasy. Definitely will not be going back.

I finally tried this place after vacationing at Massanutten for the last 12 years. Service was good but the food was lacking. My burger smelled weird. I guess it was the type of meat. The fries were typical. The blt tasted funny too. Possibly the type of bacon. All in all it doesnt pay to buy cheap meat. Must have been a reason why I always drove by and never stopped.

Can I give it zero? Please dont advertise on a big huge sign that you have an espresso bar if you really dont know how to make espresso. Not fresh ground, tamped (could you call it that?) with a spoon just to even out the grounds, poured over ice (for iced LATTE). Just forewarning the knowledgeable espresso crowd - dont expect anything soothing here. Maybe EXPRESSO.

Great prompt and friendly service and really good reuban. It came out to the table and it was huge-great value. Apparently its all homemade. My friend had the burger special which was called The Graceland. It had peanut butter, pickles and bacon on top of fresh burger patty. It was killer! They use local grits and ham for breakfast. Ill be going back.

One of the best meals Ive eaten in a long time! My girlfriend ate the garbage plate and was quite satisfied. I had their pumpkin pancake taco, and it was incredible! No syrup necessary. Pleasant atmosphere, good location, fair prices for whats on your plate. If you want a great meal that leaves you full, stop by the Thunderbird!

I only gave this 1 star because the pancake taco was decent other then that the food was awful. My omelette was rubbery and definitely microwaved. The jimmy burrito was like eating shoe leather. The potatoes were decent as well. So if youre in the mood for potatoes and a taco pancake this is your place otherwise eat elsewhere.

Came here with my wife on the first day of our Honeymoon, and ordered Biscuits and gravy. It was so good, we came back for more the next day. The "garbage plate" was outstanding, the grits were magical, and that bread was phenomenal. The coffee was endless and wonderful. And both times the service was impeccable.

Food was great, service excellent and fast. Jarrod was our waiter and he rocked, very fast and attentive. Music was good rock and roll, not too loud...just right. Menu is typical greasy food faire, but well prepared and very tasty. We hit thunderbirds on our way out of town and definitely would recommend it.

Chocolate Fudge Peanut Butter Pancake Taco. Do I need to say more? Very nice and attentive waitress. The cook allowed our kids to order off of the lunch menu at 10:30 instead of 11. Food was delicious. Fast service. Great place to stop when visiting Massanutten Resort. Very pleased.

Food portion was far too small and waitress was impolite and unapologetic. The waitress forgot to bring something out that was ordered. I told her what she forgot and she did not seem to care. I never did get the food she forgot to bring out. Bottom line, wouldnt recommend this place.

Stopped by for breakfast today while vacationing in Massanutten. The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. The Jimmy Burrito was the best but everything we had was good and fresh including the lattes. Highly recommended if you are in the area.
