TEDDY CROCKER RATES EL NORTENO 5 STARS -- "Im so full, after eating at El Nortenos Authentic Mexican Restaurant for the 1st time ever today. Lets look at the word Authentic shall we. Ive eaten Mexican Cuisine in Juarez, Tijuana, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Montana, New Mexico,Texas, California, Oregon and Washington state and Im pretty sure those meals were Authentic, since we -- America -- took those lands away from the Brown People prior to the Spanish-American War. Now Im here in the Dirty Dirty South ... and decide to eat at El Norteno today. GUESS WHAT .... Their Food is VERY MUCH SO AUTHENTIC and possess that Hispanic / Tex-Mex / Tejano / Chicano / Mexican / Latin American / Castilian taste that Ive come to know like the back of my hand, as a 26 year veteran of eating Mexican Style Cuisine. Id recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE! THE FOOD IS EL MEJOR-R-R (Anglais: "The Best") !!!"

Ive been visiting El Norteno quite regularly since the day they opened, and the quality of food, drinks, and service is consistently very high. Chips and salsa always arrive immediately upon being seated, and the salsa isnt shabby--its heavy on the cilantro, which is just how I like it. The menu is very traditional, with a large selection of specialty and combination dinners. For me, the quesadilla diabla, with beef or chicken (I marginally prefer the beef) and chorizo is an easy favorite--very tasty, very spicy. Good margaritas! I do wish theyd place the green and red habanero sauce bottles at the tables, as they used to; I always have to ask for the sauce because I prefer the extra kick. Definitely one of the most enjoyable restaurants in the area.

It is amazing that in town located within the foothills of the Smokey Mountains one can find Mexican food as good as this. Ignore Soccerchick98, maybe she is a disgruntled ex-employee. We enjoyed enchiladas that came with a red sauce that we actually used taco chips to sop up from our plates, it was that good. The rice was flavorful and the refried beans, usually bland and boring were so full of flavor. Lunch came to $12 bucks for two people, which is a bargain. the atmosphere is nice, very clean and great service. The server we had was helpful and checked on us numerous times to ensure our lunch was delicious. He even gave us salsa to go! Highly recommend.

Decent Mexican restaurant with bar and small stage. Some music nights and plenty of alcohol. Two areas for a more quiet experience away from bar. Some outside seating. The food is good and the menu has a large choice. Waiters/waitresses can be hit-or-miss here, unfortunately. The management is always on the go and interested but the servers can sometimes forget what you asked for and just seem to be the weak link. Be ready to stay on top of the servers (some of them).

Ive been around: as cold as Alaska and as hot as Egypt. No matter where I go, I miss the Mexican food in Martinsville. This is my favorite place in town. Chips, salsa, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, mole sauce, fajitas...Im a big fan of all of it here. The place is pretty basic in terms of atmosphere and presentation which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 5. But the food is great, and its a pretty good place for a drink as well.

Very, VERY good! Not an upscale environment (is there any in Martinsville?), but really good food, and excellent, fast service. Weve eaten at ALL of Martinsvilles Mexican restaurants and we like El Perral a lot (though, a little uneven), dont like El Ranchito, (pretty weak, low end), but find El Norteno the best, and most consistent - everything is excellent.

Great food and service. Surprised to see no oil veggies on the menu and I wish we had a mexican restaurant like this in Hampton Roads. They didnt have cheese smothered on every dish on the menu and the phone and veggies are very fresh and good.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this restaurant. Coming from Washington, DC, this restaurant gives you the food which is worth your money. The margaritas are absolutely divine & GREAT!! Thank you So Norteno for never disappointing me.
