The food is great here! The service is horrible!!! On 3 separate occasion the same waitress messed up my order and then was visibly annoyed with me. On one occasion I asked for shrimp tempura and yum yum sauce and the lady put in an order for yummy yummy rolls and when I told her I didnt order them she yelled at me and said YES YOU DID and refused to take the over priced sushi off my tab and then i told her she either takes it off or Im not paying for anything. On a second occasion me and my fiance went for the hibachi and i order a water and he ordered a soda and i took a sip of his soda and the same server came to me and scolded me and said if u want soda I have to pay for my own. On a third occasion she also put a different sushi order in. I was with my mother and my siblings for mothers day and i order flaming Amy sushi and shrimp tempura and she brought her out only one order and when I ask for the other rolls she says their making them and i say shrimp tempura doesnt usually take this long and she yelled at me and told me I didnt order that and then she threw the sushi menu at me in front of my mother and told me to mark what I wanted. Then she had the nerve to include a 15% gratuity to my bill. I will never go back here. The servers are rude and unprofessional.!!! If i could give them negative stars I would!!!

My family and I ate here last night. We did not have the pleasure to experience the great service others have shared for this restaurant. We were severely dis-portioned in our meal servings by the chef. The other family servings was significantly larger and they had take out boxes as a result. The lady from the other family commented on how we had finished our meal. I wanted to respond and state we did not have the large servings her and her family received nor the interaction from the chef. We wanted our 5 year old daughter to have a different dining experience but will not return to this place. The chef not good and the food was just okay (nothing to boast about at all). My hubby has shellfish allergies so the chef did respond accordingly (by preparing his food first) and my cocktail was good. NOTE TO MANAGER- Please ensure your staff responds well to all customers. We did tip well in spite of the chef. The other servers we pretty good however the chef makes dining worthwhile but not in this case. We had a small meal afterwards at home. After spending over $70 (food overpriced) at this place with nothing to show for it. I hope others do not have this experience. We did deserve better.

Orange seafood sauce in a Japanese restaurant? Isnt that chinese? I eat my seafood w/ wasabi, creamy sauce with steak...anyway...I really liked Sumo Japanese restaurant...I got a great service, fantastic food and a little show w/out breaking the bank. The price was very reasonable, esp for a Japanese restaurant, w/ generous portion (we had left-overs to take home with Hibachi order lots veg, fried rice and noodle) and food was awesome. my husband & I will be going there again this Labor day weekend for our date night- minus our son :) We already know what we are going to order...Hell have Beef Katsu combination box, me = sushi either Treasure island (cream cheese, crab, salmon- all cooked, nothing raw) or Ninja Roll (avocado, shrimp tempura), and well have stir-fried Yakisoba noodle as a take-out for my son. Cant wait to go again. Next time, on our non-date nights, well take our son with us again. Place was clean and staff were very friendly and accomodating. They were so patient with my toddler. My kids enjoyed watching the Chef build volcanoes out of onions and see smokes coming out and watching it put out the volcano mountain. Sumo is now one of our favorite restaurant.

Arrived 7:25 on a Thursday night for Hibachi. Not too crowded. Waited 20 minutes for the soup and another 15 minutes for the salad. 50 minutes into the experience the hibachi chef showed up. More than an hour after sitting down we finally began to eat. Food is typical for a Hibachi establishment. Decent. Rice was a little too al dente. Portion sizes are large. Steak was under seasoned. Chicken was perfect. Chef did a good demonstration of showmanship. Only real downside was extensive wait. Bring a big appetite and much patience. Based on the wait, we dont plan to come back for dinner again.

Sumo remodeled the restaurant and changed half of dining area to dining tables and sushi bar with high stools. I came with my boyfriend the other night. Im glad we had the option to sit down on dining table to enjoy our privacy. Someone may go to Japanese steakhouse for a cooking show on hibachi grills, but couples like us can appreciate the great night out with fresh sushi and warm sake. My boyfriend and I went to many different sushi place in Manassas area. The sushi offered in Sumo is fresher than other Japanese restaurants in Manassas. We loved it.

Decent Japanese steakhouse. The main course dishes are really good; sushi is good compared to whats available in the area. The cooking show will be a delight to you and your family (kids will be awed). The soup is horrible (tastes like a cheap version of broth from Kung-Fu noodles). The salad is weird (the dressing looks like something taken from the sewers). The customer service could use some improvement (anyone ever heard of smiling?). I would go again, in about six months, but not more frequently than that.

Had some jobs close to this restaurant, sushi consistently good, never had a problem in the last 2 1/2 years I would have to say Ive had sushi here 75 times my wife and daughter and I actually had hibachi lunch there one day which was also very good never managed to make it for dinner too far from home. Going to miss coming here when we move pretty much the best salmon Ive ever had, I have had sushi all over this country never out. Would be my second favorite in the country first would be in Boulder

Food was amazing! They give you very big portions (almost too big!). Our waiter was very friendly, kept our water glasses full, cleared dirty dishes right away, even gave us a free appetizer. Only had 1 sushi roll (the twin towers) but it was very good as well. Hibachi chef was a good time-did your standard tricks but had a few ones I hadnt seen before. He was very nice as well. All in all, a great experience. Was there on a friday night and got sat right away.

I love sushi and never really care for hibatchi anyway, so I have never had it here. The Sushi is the best in the area. we always get a boat of sashimi and the fish melts in your mouth. After going to Sumo for sushi it is tough to get the quality of fish that we can get here! The rolls are also great and very creative. The staff always seems to get us a taste of something new. The sushi chef Eric, and the staff has always been wonderful! Keep up the good work!

If I could add 10 stars I would. The ladies here are so nice! They make an effort to remember us repeat customers and always have a smile on their face. The cooks are funny and entertaining, Im so glad I found a place I could be a regular at. The price is about right for a hibachi restaurant so no complaints here! The only problem is I wish they had more customers coming in because they definitely deserve to be the talk of the town!
