On the 18th of October, I took a guest/employee to Kabukis for lunch. Chef was great, food was excellent. However, I was immediately disrespected the waitress, an Asian lady dressed in a kimono. She stayed on my case from the time we walked in. I was scolded for walking on the hardwood floor near the grill, even though she had told us to follow her and she walked on the hardwood. She insisted I ordered salmon and I had to prove to her in front of the Chef that I ordered #7, steak, chicken, and fried rice. Out of the clear blue, she brought my guest another glass of water that had not been requested, and totally ignored me. My guest, a White female, commented several times how the waitress totally disrespected me. I am an African-American female, well respected in the community. What bothered me most is when I complained to the manager, he totally ignored me as if I was not even speaking. He never looked at me and never commented. I paid for the meals with two $20 bills; the tab totalled $29.58. I could not believe, the manager actually used one of my $20s to pay my guests bill, and the other to pay mine . My guest thanked me for lunch and commented that she had never seen the place before and would not have been able to afford going there since she gets her food budget is very small, I tipped the Chef $10, the waitress got nothing. There are a lot more details involved here; as a result, I wrote the manager a 3 page letter and explained why I plan to boycott and impact his business by disseminating this information to the widest audience possible. Previously, I had been to Kabukis at least 10 times and introduced at least 50 people to the restaurant; who based on my recommendation, chose to have graduation parties there in 2010, and Xmas parties there several years in a row. I never had occasion to notice this managers bigotted behavior before, but was the first time I ever saw an Asian waitress there as well. I wondered if the young woman was his wife, daughter, girl friend or whomever since he had no interest in what I said about the treatment I received from her. Then I decided, it didnt matter who she was, that did not justify the fact that he totally ignored the facts as if I did not exist and my opinion clearly did not matter. Inspite of the convenient locality, I will never to go Kabukis again. I would rather drive another 30 minutes or so to avoid being disrespected. The fact that the manager did not also suggest that his behavior is just as bigotted if not moreso, than the waitresses.

I think one star is being generous. I took my sister and young nephew here to eat. I was traveling from Georgia on business and they were along for the ride. I would rate the food as mediocre at best and the service as poor. We all three ordered the hibachi chicken and we ordered a side of calamari. They served the soup and salad. The lettuce was old and wilted. It looked like it had been frozen and defrosted. I did not complain because I figured Id give them the benefit of the doubt. When the brought the calamari. It was cold and tough, not to mention it was a very tiny portion. Next came the hibachi. I thought that at least my nephew would be entertained. Not the case. The chef looked totally upset about being there. Im used to the chefs being lively and entertaining. Not the case here. The vegetables were undercooked. The chicken was disgusting, the noodles were completely gross, and I couldnt believe they charge extra for fried rice. And to top it all off, they charge an 18% percent gratuity. Really? Your waitress never filled my tea glass, your chef (I use that term loosely) was completely useless, and your portions were non existent. When I mentioned this to the lady who took the bill (our waitress), she just said , "my bad", on the tea and said the manager wasnt there so they couldnt do anything. (I think he was the one who seated us) My advice to management is to go eat a REAL Hibachi restaurant to see how it should be run. They may have been great before, but they are horrible now. I never write poor reviews, but this needed to be said.

I have been to Kabuki without issue several times over the years. However, on 5/1/15, we went to celebrate my sons 14th birthday. The restaurant was almost empty, save for one table. We were seated at an empty table but placed on the very corner side. I thought my son would like a better seat, so we moved to the seats directly in the front. When the waitress returned, we were told we may have to move if another party came in. I said that didnt sound quite fair to arrive early and be penalized for doing so and having to move if a larger party arrived. We were told we had been seated already and may have to move back where we were first told to sit. The waitress said this was their policy. I said to tell your manager that I dont agree with that kind of policy. I considered leaving but wanted my son to enjoy his dinner. Our soup and salads had arrived, when a different waitress came over and rudely said, "You have to move because there is a party of 7 that wants to sit together. I paused for a second then said, "I no longer wished to eat here," and stood up. A different waitress said, "Never mind, they want a table to themselves." So, we were the first to be seated yet had no say where we sat at the same table we were "instructed" to sit at. We were told to move from a spot my son would enjoy more to make way for a later arriving group, yet that group was allowed to sit at a table of their choosing as a private group. Ive no interest eating under such unequal restrictions. I will never return to Kabuki.

The food is great, and the decor is great. The waitresses, however, are definitely NOT. Ive had a bad experience before: one day I went into the bar to order sushi and have a little sake along with it. When I ordered the sake my snobby waitress goes "ewwwwwwwwwwwww!", totally inappropriate, especially since she works at a JAPANESE restaurant, in case she forgot. Second bad experience: I walked in one day and politely asked if the restaurant sold their sushi-grade salmon, because I wanted to make a few of my own rolls at home. The owner yells out rudely, "NO! AND WERE CLOSED!" This was early in the afternoon, and the doors were literally wide open, mind you. My second bad experience was tonight. My wife went there to pick up sushi for me. My order was simple: salmon rolls with NO sesame seeds. My wife gets in the car with the sushi, and what does she find all over the sushi? SESAME seeds of course. Now I could have let this go, but she told me that the waitress who took the order seemed like she was more focused on flirting with some other staff member than doing her job. Even if it werent her fault, SHE should have checked the order before bringing it out. She didnt take them back because we dont like to return food. Anyways, that was the last straw Ive had from that place. They will never get another dime from me.
