Service was mediocre at best, they were nice- just not very quick. The place is extremely overpriced for how dirty it is. Soap scum and dirt around the sink, facet loose from the sink ( you can literally pull it out of the vanity top) broken and taped paper towel/ toilet paper dispensers in the bathroom, floor is sticky and has a film on it. Grout is black when it should be white... doors and handles sticky.... walking around the restaurant all the vents are covered in black dust (including the ones not in the same room as the open flat tops for hibachi) the tile around hibachi grills had black soot and sticky film. Glass was all greased over and cloudy, everything seemed like it was falling apart. Sushi took about 15-20 minutes to come out, it was warm... and the show was not great- clean your restaurant up- keep it organized and put money where it belongs and you will make money, stop over charging for dishes slathered in teriyaki sauce with barely any meat.... if a health inspector was there- you would probably fail horribly...

Our food was prepared by the hibachi chef with his back to us, at the hibachi table across from us. Being that he was cooking for a table of fourteen, the rice and vegetables were cold by the time our meat was done (since food for fourteen just doesn’t fit on one hibachi grill). We questioned the server as to why the chef was cooking this way, and she informed us that there was only one chef in the house. However, the seven of us and the seven at the table across from us were the only ‘tables’ that had anyone seated at them in the entire restaurant. The hibachi filet mignon and shrimp was small, the steak was wonderful, however the shrimp was fishy and had little other flavor. The chicken arrived latest with extra sauce and minimal flavor as well. At the end, the server we spoke with informed us that there was no manager on duty, and seemed to find our complaints humorous and petty. She kindly provided us with a $10 gift certificate for ‘next time.’ We will not be back.

I thought I would give it a shot even though the reviews were not great. They were not great for a reason, their sushi chef is incompetent.he got my order wrong in 2 ways, he gave me smelt roe when I ordered salmon roe, he gave me a spicy tuna cut roll when I ordered a hand roll. Also traditionally when you order Nigiri or as this place calls it sushi it comes with two pieces unless otherwise stated, they serve 1 and charge the price of 2. There was someone who posted a comment about the servers not speaking English, yes they have accents but you can't fault the for that! How's your Chinese (as they are here at Roda) or Japanese? The place is beautiful and the fish is fresh, that's a start, they need to train their sushi chef better and change their pricing if they plan on serving1 piece vs 2.

Not even rates with all the other Japanese steakhouse in the Richmond area. I just moved over to this side of town and decided to try them. BIG MISTAKE.. After 2 hibachi dinners and some sushi, we walked out with a $90 bill that wasnt even close to being worth it. The chef had no personality and overlooked everyones steak at the table. He never said anything to us and seemed to just want to cook and get away from the table. The shrimp were overcooked. Thank god I only got 2 for an appetizer. I have never chewed on shrimp as long as I had to on those. Waitresses and all restaurant staff were rude. I was absolutely shocked how awful the meal was and will NEVER go back again. Overpriced and overcooked. Not worth the money Dont waste your time. Drive to a different Japanese steakhouse in the city.

I went there for lunch last week and everything was good. I read the other reviews and can say that i did not have a bad experience like they seemed to. We sat at the Hibachi table. There werent any flip the egg in the hat tricks- actually pretty much no showman ship other than lighting the oil on fire (not even the onion volcano!)- but it was just lunch and we were the only table there. It was a bit pricey for lunch - I think $12 for chicken dish, $15 for steak. But it was a lot of food, and i would expect Hibachi to be a bit more expensive than a walk up to the counter restaurant. Im going again tonight since my wife said "lets go to Hibachi." Ill update if necessary.

I am not one to complain, but I feel compelled to write of my unfortunate experience at Roda in Richmond. As is my habit, I paid for our food with my credit card. When my credit card statement arrived, the amount of the charge at Roda exceeded the amount of my charge ticket by $50.00. I took my ticket/receipt and statement to Roda and asked to speak with the manager in private during a quiet time of day. I was treated very rudely, and the manager refused to speak with me. I did not recover my $50.00 from Roda and have not been back since this happened. Please consider this if you decide to go to Roda. There are many other excellent and honest sushi restaurants in Richmond.

Not great. Not horrible. Food was pretty good. My husband and I decide to try something new, so we stopped in. Got the food fast, and the best part was the fried Gyoza. When we were leaving, the woman at the front gave hubby his requested take home box. What I didnt expect was for her to pick up his plate and shovel the food in the box herself. It felt rushed (later realizing that we had came in about 20 min before closing). Still, the place was nice, the servers were boring but nice, and the food was good. Give it a try, you might be surprised. Maybe.

My experience was not fantastic. Male waiter was great, female waitress not so much. Very pushy with getting order, very pushy with check, literally snatched the cc receipt from me as soon as I signed it, I wanted to immediately revoke the over 20% tip I left after that. They constantly watch you and remove things from the table the second it seems like might be done. Yakisoba was meh.. California roll ( my no raw food test to see if I want to risk ordering other rolls or sushi) was good. Decor is good, really great woodwork.

Ive been there at least 6 times and I am not sure why Ive been that many. They are overpriced and dont compare to any other Richmond area sushi place. The staff is rude, and the only thing they were good at was keeping the drinks full. I kept trying it out because its so close to home...but found out about Tokyo Sushi off Staples Mill last year and refuse to go back to Roda now. Its worth the 10 minute drive! The food is SO much better and the prices are nearly half of what they are at Roda. Dont waste your money!

I came in for a takeout order and had a Sapporo while waiting -- immediately noticed that the rolls were overpriced. I ordered a roll that happened to be the most expensive, which contained a good variety of fish topped with seaweed and roe. After getting to my room the seaweed had covered that they only put crabstick and avocado in my roll for $16? The sushi was alright but for a quick takeout $41 is not what I had in mind. Watch what is made for you and ask questions if you decide to eat here.
