I know that no one can please EVERYONE, but as a food-critic for a local newspaper and frequent sushi bar patron, this place is mediocre at best. Dining in is not horrible; the food tastes like standard hibachi food. It is nothing special. They have a nice all-you-can-eat sushi lunch buffet as well. But the quality of the fish itself is lackluster. It is low quality and both the texture and taste can attest to it. It tastes alright, but is clearly not high quality product. I have ordered from this location for take-out many times, mainly (and only) because the only other sushi bar in town closed. Not a single time have I gotten what I ordered, and when I do, the servings are so small the cost seems like highway robbery. They skimp on take-out orders and do not deliver what you pay for. I can promise you all this: I am not just some disgruntled customer angry at the service. Like I said, you cannot please everyone. But this review is not about my pleasure with the food or service, its about the quality. They are unapologetic when making mistakes and reluctant to compensate where they are lacking. Sushi is not cheap, so if I am going to pay $4 for a 6 piece roll, I expect it to be bigger than 2.5 inches. No joke, that is an actual measurement. It was like eating miniature versions of a real sushi roll. And to that measure, it was not made properly and was completely not what I ordered. All I want to be known is that if you are looking for quality sushi without mistakes and to get your monies worth, do not go here. It will do if you just need to hanker a fix, but if you are looking to dine out or take home food, go elsewhere. After my order today, I will never bring my business back there again. I guess when you give too many chances, you get what you pay for.

I simply love this restaurant. I like Japanese food; and this place offers both the Hibachi steakhouse cuisine along with sushi. The sushi chef, the owner, is a very amicable gentleman. The restaurant is operated by Koreans, but they do a great job with instilling quality in products and service. What do I mean? The restaurant personnel pay attention to what you order. I have not once, in the 10 years I have been going to this restaurant ever had a meal that was incorrect; maybe others have, but none in a group associated with me. Quality in food? The sushi ingredients (raw fish, squid, octopus, and etc) are always fresh; because the owner has a business/personal policy of ensuring the ingredients are not older than 2 days. Tonight, I found he goes through 1/2 of a large filet of salmon (thats a pretty large piece). They have special rolls they make that are written on little white dry erase boards. My only complaint is that with my eyes, I dont just require reading glasses to read what they are, but I need them brought to me. If you like spicy, try the *Dynamite Roll* , I love it with the jalapeno slice(s) and the dab of Sriracha sauce. Furthemore, they will take a named roll, and allow you to adapt the recipe (perhaps drop seaweed, or change tuna to salmon). The prices of all the typical sushi and sashimi are pretty decent, and the specialized rolls; they are worth the cost (in the $$ range).

When these people who say this is the only Japanese Steak House or, as they like to refer to it as "Hibachi food," they are lying. There is another one LESS THAN 2 MILES away called KOBE. So if they had a problem with Akasaka, why dont they go there. Now, just like all restaurants, there are good cooks and bad cooks. It all depends on what cook you get. If you get a good cook, you will get a delicious meal. Also, these are most likely poor people ordering the "Steak" and expecting the filet mignon. Sorry you poor people, if you want good stuff, you are going to have to pay for it. Their filet and lobster is above average (and if you get the right cook, perhaps even better) and the staff is very friendly. Despite what some of these people say, they are disgruntled customers who wanted something they couldnt afford to pay for. This place is just about average as far as Japanase Steak Houses go. Dont let these peasants fool you. They are poor and bitter and their only power is their freedom of speech. I pity them.

Ive been to this japanese restaurant more than a few times and everytime I went to eat I had a pleasant experience. The food is not extra ordinary good compared to the fancy expensive japanese restaurants in DC. However, as a sushi lover, this place offers above average service and taste. The waitresses are also friendly and they greet you with "irashaimase" (welcome?) when you enter the restaurant. Sure, they are only human and make mistakes, but I actually never had them mess up my order. I think the other people who are giving really bad ratings here are just...perhaps plain poor to eat/enjoy sushi. If you are a food critic and think $4 for 6 piece rolls are expensive...Maybe they are not paying you too well for your job or youre not so good at what you do..I dont usually leave comments/reviews but some of the reviews seemed way too unfair.

Far more expensive than most hibachi places and super cheap on the portions. Watered down sauces and small portions. They charged $4.95 for extra vegetables and that just meant they gave me more of everyone elses veggies. I dont agree with them giving the lady at the table more rice out of everyones share because they mentioned it was her B-Day last minute. Why should we be out 27$ for less because its her B-Day? If they want to give her free stuff they need to make extra. If you are male no matter what age, they gave more steak than to female... I felt insulted. They over serve your table by having three different servers come by for three smallest thing but I would rather have correct portions and thicker sauce.

We have been to a lot of sushi places around DC. We used to live in DC and were able to visit Sushi-Ko frequently. Since moving to the suburbs we have found lots of places serving mediocre sushi. We were delighted to find this place, it is head and shoulders above the others. The quality of the fish shows in both flavor and texture. All fish portions are generously cut and become the centerpiece of the nigiri, not a little piece of fish on some mediocre rice. The owner is friendly and VERY knowledgeable of the sushi fish markets around DC. We will drive way out of our way to visit this outstanding sushi restaurant.

Terrible experience with the chef...I use to go there at least once a week and spend $30 - $40 per seating and never get a comp appitizer. I brought 8 of my friends along with my girlfriend (total 10 people) to celebrate my birthday and they even charged me for my birthday dessert after the total bill came out to over $400.....Come on now, I brought you over $400. worth of business and you charge me for a $4.80 dessert....FU. Im done with this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
