I called in an order Sunday evening, they said it would be done in 15-20 minutes. I got there 20 minutes later and was never acknowledged. I finally had to hunt down the waitress and tell her I was there to pick up an order (I saw an order to go on the counter as soon as I walked in and assumed it was mine). She handed me a ticket to confirm my order and when I told her it was correct she just walked away. I stood there and waited another 25-30 minutes trying to catch one of them to see what was going on. The waitress then went to give someone else a ticket with my order on it. I "interrupted" and said that it was my order. I showed her the ticket that SHE handed me and without saying anything she went and picked up the bag that had been there when I had walked in 30 minutes earlier! There was no apology for the wait or for the mistake. By that point, my soup and shumai was cold and to top it off when I got home I realized my Salmon cucumber roll had NO SALMON in it!! I paid for salmon and got rice and cucumber! The food tasted alright (the part of my order that wasnt messed up). But seriously, I cant believe how terrible the service was. Im know its not the waitresses fault that there were only two of them working on a busy Sunday evening--but I will never go back.

My three friends and I decided to come here to get the sushi and hibachi grilled food. We all placed our order at the same time and they got their food while I just waited for mine to come. (I got the exact same order as one of my friends, steak and chicken). Finally after about 30 minutes the waitress comes over and asks if I ordered anything. I said yes and she apologized and said shed place the order. We literally waited another hour at the restaurant and were ignored completely by the staff. Finally we actually tracked someone down and asked for the check because I just wanted to leave instead of getting this food I ordered that never came. They brought the bill and they actually charged me for the steak and chicken I never got. We thankfully got that figured out and I didnt pay for something I didnt get but I will never come here again. An hour and a half of waiting on food that was never even made. Absolutely terrible waitresses. Never again.

Lived in Japan for 7 years so am usually disappointed by the Korean/American bastardized Japanese resraurants. However Tomo s is pretty spot on with a lot of their dishes. The only meal I was upset about so far is the yakiniku bowl, which was more like a bulgogi bowl. Karage, cutlet curry, and Katsu don were great. My whole time in Japan I never saw ginger dressing so I dont understand why all the japanese restaurants serve it here, and it is difficult to find actual dressing that they use in Japan, but Tomo has it, which made me happy. As far as Japanese restaurants in the states its hard to beat hawaii as far as authenticity, but Tomo does pretty good. The vibe and environment is really nice as well, truely feels a little like an izakaya. Its a step above the rest of the bland sushi restaurants you will see out there.

Spicy chirashi... So they tell you it will be assortment of raw fish. Really? There is 3 small cube of tuna and rest is isumidai. Frozen cheap fish that will give you stomachache...... not impressed. I have had other dishes here some were good but some where just bleh... Not high quality at all as some reviewer mentions. Oh and the 3 small pieces of tuna had so much cartilage it was terrible. Unpleasant and just ended spitting it back out. Another thing I want to mention is, they skimmed out on the lettuce. Felt like I was eating coleslaw with fish and rice.... not impressed at all.

I hate to say this because I love this place to get sushi.. but me and my cousin saw a roach run across the room on the floor. It made me not want to eat here again.. we were waiting for our table to get cleaned and get seated. I just couldnt believe my eyes. We were sitting where the waiting area was and we saw it run across the room. It made my stomach sank. Honestly! We were so hungry that we didnt want to leave and we were already there. So we ended up eating here. But that will be the last.. so gross!

The second I walk in, Im greeted with warm smiles and cookies and milk. They give me a glass of ice cold water from Mount Fuji. I sit down on pillows with 3000 threadcount, definitely not from Sears. They bring me to an aquarium where I choose the fish I want. Not more than 30 seconds later I get my sushi. Im transported to a seaside village in Japan, where sushi was invented. Thats how I feel when I eat this sushi.

My wife and I had a late lunch here on Sunday. The atmosphere was nice and family friendly. The tables and chairs were all solid and pleasant wood, which I am fan of. The food was tasty and the portions were fair. We had the yakinuku-don and several traditional sushi rolls and regular sushi. We liked it all. The wait staff were pleasant and attentive, without being overbearing.

I have been here many times. Foods are fairly good and price are fair for most entrees. However, chirashi is a total rip off. I worked at many sushi restaurants and been to most sushi restaurants in DC area. Chirashi at Tomo was by far the worst for the price you pay . You can easily get far better chirashi below 15 at other sushi restaurants.

Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Violent action movie playing on a large TV seemed like a poor management choice. The table and most of the tableware were sticky and needed a good washing. Having said that, the miso soup was flavorful, the combo sushi appetizer was fine and the chicken teriyaki main course was piping hot.

I love Tomo! The price is really good for the quality of the food. The service and the atmosphere are fantastic as well. I normally eat sushi but I have had some of their hot dishes too and everything is delicious. Ive been eating here for about 5 years and Ive never had any issues.
