True Food Kitchen boasts of "honest food that tastes really good." Their concept is healthy-oriented, so you get vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Essentially, theres something for everyone with a dietary restriction. Emphasis is on organic produce and food is all based on Dr. Andrew Weils anti-inflammatory diet. This location has both interior and patio seating, as well as a full-service bar. Its got a very eco-friendly décor that matches with their food concept and an open kitchen that spans the whole back of the restaurant. We started off with natural refreshers. My boyfriend chose the sparkling watermelon soda ($4) made of watermelon, lime, cane sugar, and sparkling water. Pretty good! I decided on the Green Arnie ($5) made of matcha green tea and honey lemonade. Ehh, not so good. You can definitely taste the green tea and the honey lemonade and its undoubtedly natural, but Im not just a huge fan of it. However, if I were to come back, I would try the other natural refreshers like Kale-Aid (kale, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, and ginger) or cucumber refresher (cucumber and honey lemonade). For the entrees, I chose the spaghetti squash casserole ($13) and my boyfriend selected the steelhead ($24). My spaghetti squash casserole was pretty decent. Its made with fresh mozzarella, organic tomato, and zucchini, and its both vegetarian and gluten-free. It tasted good (especially for vegetarian food), and I didnt feel like I overate or gross like you sometimes do after eating a lot of good (bad for you) food. My boyfriends steelhead was also pretty good. The fish was cooked nicely and it came with cauliflower tabbouleh, dates, pine nuts, watercress, and tahini dressing. Unfortunately, they overdressed with the tahini sauce which is not acceptable for restaurants. If you want a healthy alternative, True Food Kitchen could be the restaurant for you. Popular food trends with a healthier twist. Prices range from $4-13 for appetizers, $8-14 for salads, $14-30 range for entrees, $12-16 for sandwiches, and $11-13 for pizza.

We decided to try True Food because my wife and I usually eat healthfully and she likes to try new restaurants. It was easy to find parking at the "Target" parking garage across the street. Walking in we were greeted by friendly hostesses and only had to wait 5 minutes to be seated (we had a reservation, other walk-ins were quoted 30 - 40 minute wait). The menu had a lot of great selections making it tough to choose. We started with the edamame dumplings which were just OK. The broth was excellent but the dumplings were like ravioli with a edamame paste filling. The asparagus and mushroom pizza was delicious, but I would avoid it if you do not like garlic. Also the fish tacos were great. I typically do not like fish tacos, ever, but these were very good. The drinks were just OK. I had the honey lemonade and would have preferred just lemonade because the honey was too strong. My wife had a honeydew and ginger soda. At first taste, she did not like it but as she kept drinking, the flavor really grew on her and now she wants to try and make it at home. Service was decent. Our waitress was excellent but it seems the drink orders are placed and then brought out by someone else. The drinks were very slow to come, we had to request a refill, and my wife never got the water she ordered.

Date night excursions.... Looking for a change of scenery but want to stay local, then check out the Mosaic district in Fairfax, VA. This area is filled with vibrant people busy shopping, checking out a movie at the boutique theater, Angelika Film Center and Cafe, or grabbing a delicious bite to eat. When visiting the Mosaic district you must check out a movie and have a glass of wine or beer while enjoying the show. I say skip the popcorn and indulge in the hotdog. Not sure if I was very hungry or the hotdog was just so damn good. The seats are comfy and the atmosphere is cozy, modern and trendy. A new theater favorite. Afterwards take a walk through the lawn and head over to one of the best restaurants in town, True Food Kitchen. Step out of your box and get ready for a medeterranian cuisine, food adventure. The food didnt disappoint and our waiter was great. Loved how he aimed to please and made all of our request come true. The energy was high. The restaurant was busy and booming. The wait for a table wasnt long which is always an added bonus. We will definitely be returning soon. True Food Kitchen is one amongst the many happening joints in this neighborhood. However, it is unique in that the emphasis is not just on high quality, it is also on the ingredients and the source of these fresh ingredients. We noticed that this is one of the most highly rated place for vegetarians, so it was an instant hit with my friends, many of whom relish vegetarian food. We tried a couple of appetizers - the fried cauliflower and spinach, both of which were tasty. For entrees, we tried four different ones, and were extremely happy with our choice. The Panang Thai curry was tasty and spicy, the lasagna was delicious and so was the inside out (quinoa) burger. Service was friendly and prompt. We were seated within 10 minutes of arriving on a busy Friday night. The staff was courteous and provided a good explanation of the various choices available. The only gripe was the portion size - eating with a healthy conscience can weigh heavily on your wallet! However, we were aware of that going in so we werent looking for a hearty meal, just a healthy one. I would recommend this place to a friend to try out, especially if theyre looking to eat right. Decent, albeit not vast, selection of beers and drinks.

Been anticipating the opening of True Food Kitchen at the mosaic district for months ever since I dined at the Santa Monica location early this year. The restaurant is staffed with hipsters and interior design has an earthy feel with an open kitchen concept (which I love). I love that this restaurant is a collaboration between Dr. Andrew Weil and Sam Fox. I totally dig the holistic take on nourishing the body. My boyfriend, parents and I ordered the Albacore Tataki, Edamame Dumplings, Turkey Lasagna, Teriyaki Brown Rice Bowl with Tofu, Red Chili Shrimp and Margherita Pizza. All of the dishes were great. Was feeling a bit under the weather so I ordered The Natural (a ginger, citrus tea) instead of the usual cocktail and it was fantastic. I do not think Ive had a drink that I didnt think was creative and delicious. The first time that I went, it was during the opening week and the service was mediocre. Pleasant staff but slow service. Today the service was slightly better but still needs improvement. Understandable for a restaurant that just opened. Overall, still a fan of the restaurant! Will come back again. =)

I like this place. I really do. The drinks were well made, the wait staff is amazingly friendly and knowledgable. The Tandoori Chicken blew my mind as did the mizo dumpling appetizer. Brunch is also great here. You feel light after a meal, which is something to be said. Two reasons why I gave it a 3 and not a 5: First, the inside out quinoa burger. Its crazy dry. The other, and a reason why they may not see me often at all, unless I want to eat dinner at 5 pm or lunch at 3 pm, is the wait. It takes over an hour every time to get a table, and its, seriously, kind of absurd. Get a reservation system, people. I know theres a price to be paid to eat well, but there are other places that serve great food too and, as much as the concept of first-come-first served is a great representation of power to the people, theres something to be said for not having to block off an hour or two (beyond actual dining time) to be seated. This place seems to only work if you actually live in the town center and can watch TV while you wait. So, if you live there, go, enjoy it, the place really is great.
