I have been trying to find a good Indian restaurant with a good buffet. I had read mixed reviews about this restaurant before I finally found a chance to make it to the buffet. Some people liked it and some did not like it. I should have known better when there was no one in the restaurant around 1200 hours. I saw a reservation sign on a table, which lead me to believe a large party was expected, but there was only one patron in the restaurant at a time. Unfortunately, this place did not do it for me at all. I only ate there because I went out of my way to find it. Although it was edible, it was no appealing to me. The naan had puddles of grease on it. I cannot stand grease; it grosses me out. So, I ate around the parts that did not have grease on them. The chickpeas were lukewarm. Some of them were somewhat cold. The dal makhani was runny and not hot either. The spinach (saag) was just that, no saag paneer, and again was not hot. The other veggies were so-so and the chicken was ok. Apparently, the heat needs to be turned up under the dishes. Did not have any issues with service. Compared to an Indian restaurant that I used to eat at, which was my first exposure to the Indian cuisine and was far more generous with the ingredients, I was really disappointed. This experience was nothing to write home about or make me want to give this place another chance.

First, the place is located in a pitch dark location. The restaurant is clean and hygienic. I went on a Friday night. As you can see, there is absolutely no one in the restaurant except our table. We ordered vegetarian food for a group of 12+. We did have a good time there. Lets cut down to pros and cons. Pros: 1. Beverage option are limited, but I see then enough. 2. I like the fact the orders are tailor maid to individual taste preferences. 3. Food, for most of the part is cooked after order is placed. I like that no/less Microwave is involved. It was served hot from the kitchen. 4. Quantity is little more than expected. I am not a big fan of quantity food. But again most of the Indian restaurants serve in large portions, because Indians do eat larger portions than average Americans. Cons: 1. The place looks a bit aged and dull 2. I find it unusual that owners are serving the table. Like I said, the place doesnt attract a lot of crowd. They may not need staff. But, it is just me. 3. I somehow find there was something missing in the food. It was either bland or way off ingredients. I did not find that sweet spot in the food.

I do not know what these other people have experienced, and I do not know if Ambrosia was off to a rocky start with their food. Let me say that I have eaten at Anokha, the Indian restaurant in the short pump mall, the indian restaurant on Cary St and some Indian restaurant in Virginia Beach. AMBROSIA IS EASILY WAY MORE DELICIOUS THAN EVERY OTHER INDIAN RESTAURANT I HAVE EATEN AT IN THIS STATE. Aside from their food; there are only two people that work there, and one guy that buses tables. If you are dining in at the restaurant, understand that they only have 2 people running the place...and they do a pretty good job! The people that work there are extremely friendly and it only takes them 15 minutes to prepare your meal. Here are my recommendations for meals to get there Chicken/Mutton Korma - One of my favorites Chicken/Mutton Tikka Masala - My other favorite Chicken/Mutton Saag - right up there with the korma and tikka I eat this food like 3 times a week...its always amazing.

Update-still delicious Indian cuisine and good service. We have been dining here for a year and sometimes we order take out for picnics. If you read "bland" reviews it usually comes from Indian folks who are used to super spicy food. I consider their medium spiced food to be the max I can enjoy. So consider that when reading Indian peoples reviews. Very good and authentic Indian food. The buttered chicken is my wifes favorite. I love the lamb biryani. I suggest you try the Indian beer as it was pretty good. The different Naan breads are all so good and freshly made. They have buffets for lunch and one of the best lunches in the area. I also sometimes call for take out and enjoy delicious Indian food at home. We have eaten at 5 other Indian restaurants in the Richmond, Short Pump, and Midlothian area and while Ambrosia is not a gorgeous restaurant compared to some, the food is as delicious as the best two in the area.

I Love Indian food and this place is definitely a good recommendation. Staff are nice, great clean environment. Im in the military and came here for a school and I have been craving for Indian food since. I ordered goat tikka and the goat is a little tough, couldve been cooked a little longer but the sauce is very delicious, the Garlic Naan is also delicious. I ordered another main course for tomorrows dinner, goat curry, I wanted to give it another chance, however no dice, Goat still a little tough but the sauce was delicious. The shrimp appetizer is however, delicious. If the Goat wouldve been cooked well, I wouldve given it 5 stars.

I am not willing to give this place even one star but the system would not allow. We went to this place because it was close to i95.The food was inedible. The cauliflower Manchurian was made with rotten cauliflower which explains their food standards. The soup was way too salty to eat. The staff was very rude and was not willing to take the comments. This is not a place if you are looking for good Indian cuisine or a good/hygienic food. Please do not make a bad choice by choosing to go this place.

My friend and I love trying new places out and giving them business, so of course we stopped by here. We automatically loved the diversity in the food that they served. Our server, Kevin I think his name was, was very polite. Didnt bother us to much, didnt leave us stranded either. My friend got an Indian dish (i dont remember what it was) and he thought it was delicious. I got the salmon with mac and cheese. It was also very satisfying. I plan on going back with more friends soon.

On first visit, very diasappointed. The gross green color inside was awful. A big "buffet" sign out front yielded a 6 dish tiny buffet stuck in a dark corner. Ordered homemade macaronni and cheese as a side, and got a tablespoon (told had to make some more, but not offered a substitute) which was as bland as plain pasta.. Friends order was much slower coming than the rest. I will not go back!

The building is not very well noticed from the road and pretty small. Service for my takeout order was quick and I waited no more than 15 mins for my food. I sat at the bar while I waited, which is a tiny dark corner by the door but the food makes its a Diamond in the ruff. The coconut chicken was more than I could have imagined with portions large enough to satisfy two meals.

Please do yourself a favour and go to a real indian restaurant not this piece of garbage. Google please add negative stars to this rating system so i can use it like right now
