I understand that the restaurant was busy and that we were a large group. I get that asking to add an extra person is extra work for the service staff. It is, however, also extra money in their pocket, and if youre going to complain and/or roll your eyes at the situation, I find it best to not do it in front of the table. Clearly our waitress did not want to be doing what she was doing. Which made me not want to do what I was doing. Waiting a long time to place our order then a little longer to receive the food is fine when its an open-style restaurant and you can see how hard the staff is working. But there was never any consolation for this, each time we needed more water it became a process. We wanted more drinks, but the opportunity never arose. The food was pretty great. And I didnt even find the pricing to be too high... until the bill came. Including 20% gratuity for sub-par service is the restaurants prerogative. Theyre allowed to do that. I wish we had known about it prior to receiving the bill, but thats neither here nor there. However - INCLUDING A 2% GRATUITY FOR KITCHEN STAFF?? Should you also add a 1% gratuity for the managers, and how about asking the customers to chip in to help pay for electricity and heating bills? Im fine with the OPTION of tipping the kitchen staff. Ive seen this done in a lot of open-format places, but to automatically tack on a 22% gratuity made my meal go from a slightly-expensive but reasonable experience (I kept thinking how nice it must be on a slower night, but if you do trivia to bring in business and you have that many reservations... why did the restaurant still feel under-staffed?) to an unfortunately sour one. This first time diner has no plans on coming back.

This was my favorite restaurant, and up until tonight I always had a great dining experience. I had a reservation for a party of 13 for 5:30pm tonight. When the first 5 of us were seated, one of my friends told the waitress (Hannah) that we would like to split our bill. The waitress then said she can split it 4 ways. My friend said "I can tell you how we want it split now if youd like," to which Hannah said "it would be better to do it afterwords." Two hours later we received a $500 dollar bill which was in no way divided up. We asked for her to split it and she became visibly upset and lectured us on the difficulty in splitting the tab. We then waited 30 minutes before one of my friends got up and approached her about the bill. Ten minutes later Hannah brought us a couple bills, then disappeared for ten minutes, and then brought us a couple more, etc. In total we waited over an hour to have our bill settled. All of my friends left very upset and dissatisfied, which was very embarrassing as I always spoke very highly of this restaurant. This waitress probably received >$100 in gratuity that was automatically included in our bill, which she in no way deserves. She was rude, impatient, and then had us wait (possibly intentionally) for an hour to have our bill settled. I wouldnt recommend ever going here with a large party. It was an awful experience, and even though the food was great, it wasnt worth it. I dont think Ill ever go back ....

I recommend you eat elsewhere. (more on that later) I would come here for drinks before or after dinner. The ambiance is wonderful. With all the restaurants in the area that are making fantastic food, im amazed The Waterworks is still in business. If not for the setting, I would only give it 2 stars more on the food Despite what appears to be a tasty menu, the soups came out cool (and came back cool again after being sent into the kitchen for a warm up). Talked to a manager, and he said they checked the temp and it was at 106 F, and that is what they heat it to. Being that liquid will not burn a person until it reaches 135 F, I am forced to question who is teaching the cooks how to do their job. (I had the onion soup) The sandwich I had (Turkey + bacon) had good bread and medium quality meat, the radishes and lettuce were almost non existent) For 10 dollars I expect more. If they must hit a certain profit margin I suggest charging an extra dollar for the sandwich and making it fantastic instead of just ok. I look forward to an announcement of a new chef or a change in ownership. Then I will gladly try the food again.

What a wonderful place for dinner in Winooski! My husband and I made reservations and we were seated at a small table near the large windows in the back. The restaurant is located right next to the river with great views even in the winter. It looks like they have outdoor seating as well during the warmer months. There is a large bar in the center with very high ceilings, brick walls, and vintage light bulbs. The décor was very nice. It was a great choice for a date night! Overall great atmosphere and great beer selection. We ordered the squash pasta, garlic fries, flatbread, tiramisu, and German chocolate cake. Every was so good, but the German chocolate cake was AMAZING! We happened to go on a trivia night so it was kind of noisy, but not so much that it ruined the mood. It actually looked like a lot of fun. I would not hesitate to go back to this place, we had a wonderful experience!

Went to Waterworks for the first time last Friday and was very impressed. The food and drinks (especially the drinks) are among the best in our area, and this place is absolutely unmatched for atmosphere. We were seated up in the loft, giving me a view of the open kitchen, and what struck me was the attention to detail the staff showed to every single plate. My only critique has to do with our server, who was effective but impersonal. Even with that, I have no problem rating this establishment at 5 stars and recommending it to friends.

Our first trip to this wonderful picturesque restaurant. I had heard great things and I was not disappointed with the food. The menu may sound simple, but the food was unique and everything was delicious. Nachos were delicious, even the Olive plate was great. Service could have been a bit better, our second beverages were ordered but we had finished meal and cancelled the order before they arrived. The location is perfect, right on the Winooski River.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, I love the remodeled mill look. The waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. We didnt have reservations but were able to snag one of the lounge tables with no wait. We ordered the steak frites and a burger. The steak was perfectly done, tender and tasty. The burger with the dijonaise was flavorful and delicious. The garlic fries were out of this world and the aoili was the best I have ever had.

Great atmosphere, Good wait staff, owner on site mostly days and we have had most of the menu items and have liked all we have tried. The chicken & waffles grwat, double burger, eggs bendict, salmom, and many other items we have enjoyed more than once for sure. Great views inside or out on patio overlooking the river. Bar seats are great too......live music on Fridays if u like that.
