Im visiting some of my good friends in Winooski, Vermont for a few days. So upon announcing that I had a mac and cheese craving on Sunday night after hiking Elnore Mountain generally discussing the nuances of Vermont cheeses, they wisely suggested that we go to Our House because it has an extensive list of mac options and is close by. They warned me to be patient, as there is often a long wait to be seated due to its popularity and service can also be slower than average. It took us about 15 minutes to put our names in, and it took about 40 minutes to get seated (though we had a lovely drink at Mule Bar). We did have to approach the hostess about seating us, so Im curious as to whether she may have forgotten that we were in line. All that said, our waitress was attentive, pleasant, and lovely. While it took some time for the food to arrive, I thoroughly enjoyed my lobster mac, which had some pretty solid lobster chunks. This a personal preference, but I wish it were a bit crispier (maybe up the bread crumb game). If the dont do this already, maybe they could ask for how crispiness the customer wants it and offer more crispy for an extra fee? My friends and I are truly curious - who gets the traditional mac at Our House? While people should do what they want, because we all recommend, and hope, that folks branch out and explore the literal dozens of mac and cheese options on the menu. I would definitely go back and recommend that others do the same, but I also suggest that you build in plenty of time for all stages of the process.

Im surprised this place has gotten any bad reviews at all, its amazing!! Its a little more expensive than what I usually like to pay, but unlike other over-priced options in Burlington (of which there are many), this one is actually worth the extra couple bucks. The mac n cheese is out of this world. Weve also really enjoyed the lamb meatloaf, the yard bird, the seafood lasagna (my personal fav), and the three little pigs sandwhich. And of course you HAVE to order the deep-fried pb&j for dessert. It may be one of the most wonderful things Ive ever eaten. The service has always been good, and Ive never had a long wait for a table. Awesome cocktails, too. The only thing Id say is that unfortunately not everything on the menu is fantastic. Ive had much better butternut squash ravioli, and the bbq pork mac n cheese was way too sweet and too porky. The buffalo mac n cheese is great though! So if youve been and havent been happy, give it another chance and try something Ive suggested above. What they do well they do REALLY really well, and theres a whole bunch of things really worth ordering. Finally, a restaurant in Burlington Im actually excited about going to!

If you like Macaroni & cheese, this may be a desired place to go, however the other food is lacking. I have been here twice now brunch, and dinner. Both experiences were just below average. For starters, they dont mind cleaning your table with a chemical compound and laying your bare silverware down on it along with the water glass upside-down on the table. Not unheard of, but not desired. I ordered a burger medium which came out an hour later well done, and not a filling size for such a hungry customer. The service was pretty accommodating, didnt ask how the food was until after I finished. With the price just above average (which would be acceptable if the food came out as ordered) is outside the acceptable range. All said, it isnt a place I would highly recommend. If no other options I would even point you toward the shady Dominos up the street.

The food is great. Its the only reason Ive kept coming back for years. The service, however, never ceases to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Every time I go there my waitress is rude. Call me crazy, but if Im leaving a tip I expect you to at least smile and try to make my experience pleasant. Is that too much to ask? Each time the waitress brings out my food without a word and then shoots off without asking if I need anything. I never, EVER get a check-back (waitress coming back to see if everything is OK). I always have my daughter with me and they dont even acknowledge her existence, speaking to her through me instead. What, are you scared of kids? For a place with lunch boxes all over the walls you could at least say hi to her, she doesnt bite, I swear. My advice? Improve your service. Smile. Act like youre actually happy to have a customer.

The tables are horrible. They are awkward to sit at. It is really cramped inside as well. We took our baby with us who requires a high chair and they literally brought out the same kind of high chair you would have at your home. This made feeding her awkward because of the height of the table compared to the high chair and with the tray on the high chair she was pushed so far back from our table. So we ended up just holding her. We were one of three tables that were there and it took us almost an hour to get our food. We just had two orders of mac and cheese and two salads. The food is overpriced as well. We only ate there because sneakers bistro was closed so we didnt have another choice otherwise we would have left if we werent hungry. It was too expensive for a place that serves mac and cheese.

Been here several times and the food is usually great and the service is usually okay. However the last time I went I went for brunch, and found plastic in my eggs. I politely informed the waitress, who didnt sound surprised (perhaps its happened before?) but maybe I was a bit too polite because her response was to take 10% off my meal... That was a dollar and change off of a 40+ dollar tab. I was a bit disappointed as I feel either getting the eggs free or getting replacement eggs would have been the proper response. Im by no means a cheapskate but come on, there shouldnt be plastic in food. I havent returned since. Overall, good food (minus the plastic) but the service leaves something to be desired.

So, maybe I should have just ordered one of the famed versions of mac n cheese. I like mac n cheese. I, however, ordered the chicken pot pie. It was personal sized (although large), but the crust wasnt cooked all the way through, so the crispy flaky experience I was hoping for was sadly diminished. The chunks of chicken were small. The rosemary flavor was strong - which is a good thing for me, since I like rosemary. It was really runny. Just not what I was hoping for. The atmosphere was fun, it was busy (I sat at the counter so I didnt have to wait), and service was as attentive as it could be given the business level that evening.

Their thing is "twisted comfort food" so its all rich, delicious, heavy foods. There are definitely lighter options. I love their tomato basil soup and grilled cheese. The mac n cheese is there signature dish and you can have it literally any way you like. I prefer to get pick up orders of mac n cheese and then Ive got dinner for that night plus the next 2 or 3 days. Huge portions! Brunch on the weekend is also really yummy, and I highly recommend it. Its a pretty small spot so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table to clear up but no where near as long a wait if you went to the nearby Sneakers.
