Ive eaten here three times- once a la carte, once for the brunch buffet, and my friend and I just got take-out from there. I wanted to like it, but this place is terrible. This time, the two of us paid $25 for the Chicken Biryani and the Seekh Kabob. The amount of food we got was embarrassingly small- not enough for the two of us, and certainly not enough for $25. The kabobs were dry and only tasted like salt, none of the other delicious spices that typically season kabobs. There were a few pieces on a bed of onions- thats it. The biryani was very hot (spicy hot- my mouth burned), but completely lacked flavor. As for our previous visits, the service was fine, but I could have gotten better food from the frozen section of the co-op. I know we are in Burlington and not NYC, but this is an Indian family from India, so I expected slightly better. Also, my boyfriends jacket still smells like Indian food from the time we went there six months ago. Wont be going again. However, if youre in the mood for a lassi, I did enjoy the plain sweet lassi I got there twice.

I dont know why the reviews here are so bad. Ive been to a number of Indian places and this is actually the best Ive been to. Plus, its affordable and the woman who usually does the waiting is extremely nice. She brought out extra rice one time when we ate all our rice. The korma plates there are also really warm and creamy, and the chicken and lamb are both extremely tender so they fall apart in your mouth, unlike the other Indian place on Colshester Avenue where the Korma is really watery and the meat is not as soft. Ive never had such good customer service at an Indian place, and the atmosphere is really cozy and cute. I think its one of the best international food places we got in Burlington, and for those who are too snotty for what Burlington has to offer, then move to a bigger city! At least we have an Indian place for such a small city.

Bland (even when I ordered Medium spiciness); single-note spices rather than the complexity one expects from good Indian food. Mealy tasteless potatoes in the Palak Aloo, off-tasting stringy chicken. But the worst part was the Gulab Jamun, which I normally love, but didnt even finish here. Didnt taste at all right (honey and rosewater); instead, kind of sour and dry. Disappointing. I love Indian food of all kinds but Shalimar is the worst Ive tasted in my memory. Decor and service were fine for us though (a party of 9).

We ordered Vegetarian. I am an indian and eat out at an indian restaurant very often. At least once a week. I have tried indian joints in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Maine. Rhe food and service on offer today has got to be one of the worst experiences so far... anywhere. Its just not the food that let us down... The service was below par... They were badly in need of staff to man the tables. Just one waitress waiting on 8-10 groups. Wait time for food was close to an hour.

I had dinner at this place after having a bad experience from the other Indian restuarant in the area (India House). I hoped this would be better, but no luck. The service was poor. and food was actually better than India House, but the bad service makes it really hard to enjoy the food you pay for. Place is not very clean - but better than the other Indian food place. I decided not to go back and get some pre-cooked food from the natural food market the third night I was in Burlington.

Shalimar has been great since I was a kid. Depending on the time of day, it CAN be a little short-staffed, but I have never had a bad meal there in the many years Ive gone there. Good price, too. Burlington doesnt have a massive Indian population, so the fact that it has been around for so long is a testament to the high quality of the experience.

Worst, Worst food ever, We are 18 people with 8 kids. Nan was served all uncooked, all kids are sick at home. So expensive food with not testy food. do not got to this restaurant. Not recommended this place ever. I already report in the Dept. of Health in VT. & better business bureau. This place has to shut down & be a seriously investigate.

Amazing gem in Burlington. Run by a very sweet hardworking family. The other reviewers are stuck up entitled white people. Its not fine dining for sure but its a local family place at its best. The place is clean and the service is always friendly. The Sunday buffet is their main attraction. ~$12 for all you can eat. Coconut Nan is the best!

We came in about ten minutes before closing on one of the coldest, deadest nights of the year (I know, were monsters), and despite the late hour, they were able to make us a large takeout order in almost no time. The staff was friendly, the food was good and spicy (the way I ordered it), and the portions were quite generous.

The food wasnt extremely tasty, but it was more than edible, and the buffet had a large selection. Surprisingly, though, the buffet lacked chicken tikka masala. The staff were super nice though, when I accidentally forgot my credit card, they held on to it for me and remembered when I came back in a panic looking for it.

Very poor service. Hadnt been before and they had buffet. Asked server if that was all that were serving, were the specials board items available for order? She rolled her eyes at us and then very a huffy voice asked if we wanted a menu. I even stated that we were new and seeking guidance on how they operated.

Absolutely love this place! They offer a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The portions are generous for both eating in and take out. The owners and employees are friendly and helpful if you are looking for suggestions. They also have a Sunday brunch that is very reasonable priced.

Nice family run place. The Sunday buffett is fun, I love the saag, and kheer for desert. I like to order mild, so I can enjoy the subtler flavors. The husband likes it hotter. The paneer pakora are also good, get two orders so you dont have to wrestle the husband...

I always have a great experience at Shalimar, and trust me when I say that Ive come a lot since I moved to Burlington two years ago. The service is fantastic, the food is delectable, and I consider it one of the tucked-away-gems of downtown Burlington.

Worst place ... Pathetic staff.. No sense to attend customer... Half cooked food served... When complained she got mad... I can write more bad things.. But dont want to waste my time either...but literally they dont even deserve negative rating..

Shalimars food has great flavor. The restaurants appearance may not be the most elegant, but it is a friendly place and I have never had any problem with the service. The Sunday brunch buffet is delicious, and a cheap way to sample their menu.

My favorite last minute dinner plan! Been coming here for 9 years now and have never been displeased. The hardworking family puts their heart into the food and you can see it anytime "Papa Shally" come by with a smile. highly recommended!
