We have been here a few dozen times & it used to be alright, not great, but not awful - until Today! We went for lunch around 1:00 and the host first tried to seat us on the patio, I asked to be seated inside since it was cold & the restaurant wasnt busy. He threw an extra chair on a table for 4 by the front door - there were 5 of us. Come on! I asked to have a few smaller tables moved together to fit everyone...I thought this was a reasonable request as there many two other occupied tables at the time. He finally accommodated a reasonable table configuration and sat us next to the open door to the patio - which I then asked the waitress to close. It got better from there...the waitress came and took our order, the food was either overcooked or undercooked and bland compared to past visits. After about twenty minutes the waitress showed up with our check and asked if we wanted boxes for the kids - they were still eating so we declined. I let her know they like to take a little time to eat. I asked for ONE refill on my soda - which I Never Ever got, because rather than waiting on us, she sat at the bar & played on her phone! How hard is it to refill a diet coke!?! The first rule of waiting tables is Never leave them without a Drink - my first waitressing job in high school was in a total ghetto dive & I learned that much the first day. Once the kids were finished, I was very thirsty but she was still typing away on her phone - must have had a "twitter emergency" my husband joked...I went up to pay the bill. The cashier asked how it was & I said it was OK, but that if the server wanted tips maybe she ought to put down her phone & refill drinks! Service has to be really bad for me to Not tip at all (because I waited tables for a fair part of high school & college)...This was that bad. The cashier didnt even seem phased at my comment. After looking at all the recent reviews on here & our experience today - we will not be going back! For a $50 lunch, I will take the family to Eggs in the City where the service is always excellent no matter how busy they get! Blue Plate has really taken the gone down hill!

For Labor Day my wife and I decided we would like to treat ourselves to a meal out. My wife is somewhat hard to please when it comes to dinning out and so we spent at least 2 hours looking at restaurants and ratings for restaurants in the area. We wanted somewhere that I could have Chicken Fried Steak and where she could have something that looked good to her. After a great deal of searching, we decided on the Blue Plate Diner. We drove all the way across town to reach our destination. When we arrived the place was packed, but there was still one small table available for immediate seating. We were given a menu, but my wife soon discovered that the Blue Plate Fish-n Chips she had seen on the online menu, was not on the menu we were looking at in the restaurant. She ended up ordering the 7 dollar Onion Rings and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs over easy. Keep in mind the reason we chose the Diner is because they offered Chicken Fried Steak. When the waiter brought my order to the table he set in front of me Bacon, Eggs (one over easy and one up), Potatoes and Toast. Not wanting to have my wifes Onion Rings get cold while waiting for a new order, I ate what was given me. My food alright but not in line with the ratings we had seen online for the restaurant. The Onion Rings were another story. They were cold, they tasted greasy and were certainly not worth the 7 dollars they cost. My overall impression... Why was this place rated 4 1/2 stars online?

Lets face it this place is a DIVE! Then food is joke! Everything they serve comes out of a BOX pre made frozen, slop! There fish is Frozen pre battered and just horrible! They even serve Frozen Chicken fried Stake! lets get real! How hard is it to Make a Batter and dip fresh Cod fish in it and deep fry it and how hard is it to pound a cube steak and bread it and fry it and serve it with homemade gravy and NOT packaged Gravy with MSG in it! The music is so loud is because they want you to eat fast so you can not taste the slop they serve you and get you out before you go DEAF! The staff was hired from the Ringling Brothers Circus because all the staff is grossly over Tattooed! Not to mention they need to take a bath and wash there hair and clean there nails and lets face it, they NEVER wear clean outfits! I have been in there several times with my group of friends and tried to give it a fair chance and everytime the food comes out tasting, and looking bad! There waffles are pre frozen and they heat them in a Microwave to the point they are like Hocky Pucs! The cooks in the back are filthy and wear no hair nets and I bet you they are Not here in this Country Legally!! Those who say the food is good there has never had eaten good food in there lives! it is disgusting food! DO NOT EAT THERE!!! If you do go in there wear EAR PLUGS and be ready to need a Stomach Pump!

I was a regular here for a few years because we can walk there but they have really gone downhill. I think they got too popular, overrun with hipsters and it sucked the joy out of them. The food was always only just better than average but the coffee is good and I like the bottomless tea option. After several poor meals in a row, (veggies still frozen, super salty instant gravy, soggy burger) we started going elsewhere. A few weeks ago I went in for a quick breakfast before work ordered the breakfast burrito special. It was insanely spicy chorizo eggs inside, with a blistering spicy green chili sauce served with fresh made pico that was mostly jalapeño. Thinking the guacamole would offer some relief I took a big spoonfull only to find that it too was hotter than hades. I spoke to server and she laughed and said some people cant take the heat. I dont mind a little heat but that was inedible. It wasnt even advertised as spicy. Ended up paying my check and walking away from a full plate. My stomach was upset the whole day from the 3 bites I got down.

Heard about it through Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. 3 of us tried it on Jan 23, arrived around 7:30 PM. Place was 3/4 full. Hippie atmosphere (which I personally feel comfortable in). Partner ordered house salad, and just from the looks of it, the rest of us ordered one as well. Mushrooms, sprouts, cucumbers, banana pepper, artichoke pieces, great mixture of leaves. Terrific & different house salad. I ordered the black bean breakfast burrito. Huge portion, served hot, with sides of sour cream, pico de gallo & guac. All accompaniments were very well prepared & bursting with flavor. Another of us is a Huevos Rancheros lover, and said his was one of the best. The other in our group had the fish tacos, and rated them tops as well. We also shared a side of corned beef hash. While very tasty, really was cubes of fried potatoes smothered w/ melted colby-jack and shreds of corned beef. Not your normal hash, but still tasty. We all ordered 3 shakes to go, which were outstanding. All this food came to $45. Will certainly be back!
