Let me start out by saying that my review was withheld because of an experience I had in January. I will try to summarize quickly. We went here for my wifes birthday. She loves Black Bear. We usually go to the one in West Jordan but have occasioned the one in Orem. Originally we were introduced to it in Walnut Creek, CA. The experience for my wifes birthday was completely unacceptable. They messed up 5 of 7 orders, argued about some of that, and failed to provide the promised discount from talking to the manager. Food was missing. Other food was overcooked. It was bad food and bad service. I wrote corporate about it. A week later I received a reply from the manager of this location. He said we could come in and dine for free. I decided, since the location was new, to hold off and see if they could overcome their growing pains. When we finally returned last Saturday (and I am providing my review and star rating on THAT experience not the one in January) things were better. We had found out that the previous manager whom I had talked to no longer worked there. I was not surprised. What did surprise me is that the new manager honored the previous managers commitment. So, we did eat for free this last time. You may keep that in mind when you read the rest of the review. We were sat in Tonys section. He showed up to the table with the manager. We showed the voucher/email to the manager and he said he would honor it. But, before he left our table he explained to the waiter exactly what to do with our bill at the end so that it would not be messed up. Seeing that level of communication to staff weighed heavily on my rating. I have attached photos of what we ordered. Salmon with 2 servings of veggies and the Chicken & Waffles plate. Both were exactly as ordered. Both tasted great. Im not sure what else to say. Obviously this is diner food. Black Bear is a diner. It is one of our favorite diners, but still a diner. The service was better this time. Tony took his time, even when just passing, to update us on when our food was coming out. He checked on our drinks multiple times. He asked us how we were doing each time he walked by. The thing about the service is, this latest time, they were even MORE busy than the first time we went. Tony also said they brought him in from another location. This leads me to believe that the previous manager had issues and they brought people in to fix them. That is not insider information just what I gather. To close, I think this location suffered from a lot of pains after opening. They were not up to Black Bear standards. Those issues have been fixed and they are now running smoothly and providing the kind of experience I expect with Black Bear no matter which location in the country you go to.

Possibly the worst service Ive ever experienced!!! On top of the lousy service & not mentioning any names the nasty snide FEMALE manager...I dont know why they even botherd asking us what we wanted or how we wanted it prepared because the cooks obviously didnt look at the ticket...they just threw some grub on plates & thats what we got.. when they "fixed it" they brought them BOTH back cooked wrong & mine came with a "free side" of shiny clearish white plastic packaging about 1" long & 3/4 " wide under the bun right smack in the middle of my sandwich... according to the manager there is no way possible that any of his staff would have put it there so it MUST have accidentally fallen there... I asked him to please check the cameras but he refused...again assuring me that it just fell from somewhere & the cook didnt see it there when he put the bun on top of it...but please allow him to take it & fix it...when it came back the 3rd time it still wasnt the way Id asked for ... all I wanted was the sandwich with the regular BBQ sauce NOT the added hotsauce no coleslaw...the mixed veggies for the side...I couldnt tell you how it tasted because when I took a bite & the added hotsauce was so hot I couldnt eat anymore... I gave it 1 star because it wouldnt let me go any lower & still be able to write a review...

There were only two other customers in the establishment who were already eating so you would think it would be easier to get an order right. The service from my waitress was ok, the food, not so much. REALLY burnt toast--literally it was black. If you wouldnt eat charcoal yourself dont serve it. The hash browns were incredibly overcooked--a little crisp is good but it was like eating a dry pasta becasue they had about that much flavor and just as hard. The Chicken fried steak was ok but they skimped on the gravy that came with it. I asked for a small pancake instead of the eggs it came with becasue of an egg intolerance I have. When did they bring me the pancake? at the very end with the check 30 minutes later. It takes 30 minutes to cook 1 pancake? WTH!! If I were a waitress and got passed this plate to serve I would have had the decency to tell the cook to try again. Come tell me hey the cook burnt the ___ out of your food. we are getting you a new plate. Then have some decent customer service and comp something small or 10-20% discount or something. No, I will not be returning to this diner--at least not this location-EVER.

This place is a joke. An absolute joke. Our food sat under the warmer for 15+ minutes before it finally came to us. My dish was supposed to come with 3 eggs and only came with 1. My hash browns were uncooked. I sent them back. They tried to remedy the situation by telling me they would bring me 3 NEW eggs with the newly cooked hash browns so they would all be warm together. It took 10 minutes to get my 3 eggs and an additional 30 MINUTES to get my hash browns which STILL werent cooked!!!!! They offered to box up my hash browns and eggs which took an additional 10 minutes and never offered an apology or something to make the situation right. Our waitress was very kind and clearly didnt have any control over the situation. BUT, I cant believe how many times I saw the waiters and waitresses standing around chatting while the extremely busy restaurant waited for their dinner. Multiple tables around us received the same type of service. Get it together Black Bear, its embarrassing.

We came in late at 7:30pm. Fed 4 adults, 4 kids (1 adult didnt order a meal) Biggest waste of $70. We all ordered breakfast items. It took about 30-40 minutes for our food to even arrive, and the restaurant was quite empty! My 8 yr old sons most favorite food is biscuits and gravy. My husband also ordered a side of biscuit and gravy. The biscuits were so stale you couldnt even cut them with a knife. We asked for a new plate and they were only slightly better. My son, who can easily down at minimum 3 biscuits in one sitting only ate a few bites and said he didnt like it. The hasbrowns were greasy and slimy, the eggs were rubbery, the bacon was extra well done. Nothing was hot when it came out. The fruit didnt taste fresh. All the other food (pancakes, waffles, French toast) was just sub-par. We do not recommend nor will we eat here again. We all agreed Mcdonalds would have been better.
