Wonderful experience at this superb Italian restaurant I went for lunch today at the Sea Salt restaurant as part of a large group of ladies. As I do not live in the immediate neighborhood I had never been to this place, yet, I had heard all kinds of comments ranging from most excellent to less enthusiastic. I was pleasantly surprised to find a vast, luminous space where tones of white contrasted with the few blue sky patches outside the huge windows and the awesome (reclaimed wood?) chairs. We were quickly greeted by a couple of charming gentlemen who were very helpful and answered all of our questions with great assurance and without to having to run to the kitchen to "ask the chef". The restaurant was fairly busy but we were served promptly and the magic started. The pasta I had (carbonara -a lightly creamed egg sauce with italian bacon and parmesan) was the best I have ever tasted anywhere outside of Italy, including New York. Everything else I sampled from my friends was equally as amazing. The only one thing I am not sure about within my experience is a tall blonde, hirsute waiter with a peculiar haircut and a very long beard that was constantly touching his lips and mustache in an effort to keep the hair out of his mouth. I found it to be downright appalling and pretty unsanitary. I did not know that this was allowed in the food business (?) but I was glad that this gentleman did not come too close to me as long beards are known to be homes for all kinds of gross things. Other than that, everything at Sea Salt was top notch and I shall return very soon and bring my family with me!

We ate there last night with a large group. First off, weekends are crowded and is was hot outside. It seemed to me they were a little overwhelmed at 7pm. They could certainly use some misters or better patio covers since it was way sunny and hot which made eating outside until the sun went down a bit trying. Lots of options on the menu, but heavily weighted towards pasta. I would of liked to see a bit more creativity in regards to lighter fair, seafood related or maybe more tapas style plates. Hard to get excited for heavy pasta when it is 100 degrees outside. Had the veal saltimbocca. Pretty expensive at $29, and the prochutto overpowered the thin veal slices- would not order that again. My wife had the lamb ribs which was excellent, very smoky/hearty flavor and just the right portion with a fantastic citrus side salad. We also order some apps that were on the small side for $8-12 a pop. $7-8 for a very small bowl of green olives? Comeon that should be compd. Chocolate tort and the panacatta was excellent. My recommendation is that they tighten up the menu in spots and maybe provide less pasta dishes and more seafood/italian options. Oh, and a mister would be nice if you have to sit outside.

This WAS one of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake City. I recently went to Sea Salt with two friends who had never been. On a weeknight it took the hostess almost 15 minutes to seat us with no other customers in front of us or waiting. When we finally sat down it took us again 15 minutes to order any drinks. My friend then ordered a dish which was bland and mediocre. It was a $17 dish so she asked if she could get a new dish as all of us tried it an agreed it was completely average. The manager was quite condescending and unwilling to work with us saying that his policy was to stand by his products therefore keeping the integrity of the kitchen. After an uncomfortable long conversation he finally took the dish away and took it off our bill. It totally ruined our experience at the restaurant- to take the dish off or replace it would of cost less than $5 for the restaurant which is immaterial compared to if I continued going there spending at least $100+ every time I went. Customers make a restaurant successful, and if the customers arent happy it doesnt matter what "policy" or "integrity" your kitchen has-its empty.

My husband and I ate here tonight and I was absolutely appauled. Our food was over cooked , my husbands plate left a black mark on the table because it was dirty, the $5 cream soda had so much syrup in it that I asked for another one to be made. The waiter who also was the night manager told me he would only make me one at an additional charge! I have never been treated that way! I paid $100 for my meal and you wont remake a drink based on principal that it was made with the finest quality? Look at how many negative comments there are about this restaurant. The waiter had his hair hanging in his face and wiped it about 20 times and then gave people their food. This place was NOT worth $100...not even $10! I spoke to the manager and he was a jerk I explained to him that this kind of service... they will surely go out of business! You will regret going here! I bet all the positive reviews are from the employees of the restaurant. We eat out 3 times a week and spend about $80 a meal so we have experienced a lot... This was the worst place we have ever eaten in terms of service and quality!

Absolutely ridiculous reviews from everyone else. I have relocated from Charleston, South Carolina where we were lucky enough to enjoy some of the best food in the country, literally. Anyone who says this restaurant is/was terrible should reevaluate his/her regular intake of food, which is probably the olive garden. Compared to the Sizzler and other crap eateries you attend I can imagine your unfamiliarity with great food, so for that, I can understand where these idiots are coming from. I simply refuse to believe that any of you have had anything but a good experience with Sea Salt and have no other choice than to assume you are a competitor. Great seasonal Italian food and the service is supreme which is why I continue to go back. The individual below who has never been fortunate enough to read a book on or actually visit Italy obviously doesnt understand the concept of enjoying your food and company. If he/she is looking to stuff their fat face in an expeditious fashion, please keep your uneducated opinions to yourself and head back to your regular fast food haunts.

The best, prettiest, classiest patio in town, bar none, period! The owner went all out this year to upgrade his patio and put a bunch of junipers on the enclosing wall, hanging pots with succulents and 2 fantastic outside lounge areas where i could have spent the entire evening sipping on my Sea Salt Spritz, had it not been for the restaurant being utterly packed that night. I had a remarkable appetizer of sautéed spinach with a fried egg, which I was told came both from a biodynamic farm up in Wanship. The whole thing was sprinkled with grey mullet bottarga and olive oil. I sooo enjoyed it! The yolk of my egg was almost orange in color, which is something I have not seen since i was a kid in Northern Cal, when my mom fed us eggs from her moms farm. The servers all were cute and efficient, albeit extremely busy. And they knew their menu and their wine inside out, which is an all too rare thing these days. This place is a true gem. I will be back and tell all my friends!
